Chapter 148: New Connections and Shifting Perspectives

Adam looked at the two beautiful otherworldly girls standing before him. He opened his mouth and with a faint almost charming smile he said "And my name is Eric as I’m sure you’ve all heard by now."

The two girls Gold and Silver smiled back at him in perfect unison. Their smiles were strange knowing and a little bit mysterious.

Adam could sense their power. It was immense. It was far beyond the power of any of the other students he had encountered so far. This included the arrogant Princess Monica.

In fact Adam could tell that these two girls were so powerful that they could likely defeat even some of the seasoned professors who were sitting on the stage.

They were in a completely different league from everyone else here.

His smile widened slightly. "If either of you have a change of heart in the future," he said his voice smooth and inviting "you are always welcome in our group The New Warriors. The offer will remain open."

The two girls smiled again and nodded their heads as one. It was a silent acknowledgment of his offer. They understood.

Monica watching this entire exchange from her seat in the front row was utterly flabbergasted.

She couldn’t believe it.

This "Eric" this upstart from a weak kingdom had so thoroughly so publicly humiliated her.

He had dismissed her as weak. He had said she was not even worth his time to fight.

And yet here he was giving so much attention so much... courtesy to these two random albeit very beautiful girls. It was infuriating. She felt a new surge of anger.

Alina too was quite surprised by Adam’s behavior. She knew this was Adam in control. She knew his arrogant dismissive nature. But this... this was different. He was being... polite.

The reason for her own earlier sadness the deep worry that had been gnawing at her was because she was now trapped. When the female students had been separated into their dormitories the previous day she had been swept up in the process.

The Prince of the Golden Group a high-ranking noble and a very influential student had personally requested that she join their faction.

And in the confusion and pressure of the moment with staff members ushering her along she had been unable to refuse.

She had been forced to join the Golden Group.

Later that night when the news had spread like wildfire through the first-year dormitories—the news that a boy named Eric had defied all four factions and had created a new one of his own—Alina had been horrified.

She realized immediately the magnitude of the mistake she had made.

She was in the wrong group. She was separated from Eric and from Adam.

But then a second realization had dawned on her.

The real Eric the shy nervous boy she knew could never ever have done such a thing. It had to be Adam. It was exactly the kind of unexpected chaotic powerful thing he would do.

And that was the source of her deep sorrow. She was now separated from him. She would have to spend less time with Adam. He was the enigmatic powerful being she was so desperate to understand.

Throughout her entire journey with Eric she had been secretly hoping wishing for Adam to take over Eric’s body.

She wanted it just so she could talk to him just so she could learn more about him.

And now she was locked into the Golden Group for the next four years.

Her chance to observe him to be near him was severely diminished. The thought was a heavy weight on her heart. She felt a deep sense of loss.

Now watching Adam’s surprisingly warm approach to these two beautiful girls a new unfamiliar pang of... something stirred within her.

She looked down at her own hands.

She looked at her simple clothes.

She looked at her own faint reflection in the polished stone floor. Am I not as beautiful as them? she wondered. It was a thought that had never crossed her mind before.

She had never cared about such things.

Monica noticing the direction of Alina’s sad gaze leaned over.

"Is your friend a pervert?" she whispered to Alina her voice laced with a mixture of scorn for Eric and genuine curiosity.

"Does he only like pretty girls? Is that why he was so rude to me?"

Alina startled by Monica’s sudden question was momentarily at a loss for words. After a few seconds of silence she finally replied her voice soft and confused.

"I... I don’t know Princess Monica. I don’t understand him either."

The two twin girls Gold and Silver gave Adam a final enigmatic smile. Then they waved goodbye and walked away. They rejoined the other members of the Golden Group sitting a few rows behind Monica.

The moment they were gone Kado his earlier caution and fear completely forgotten rushed forward.

His face was alight with an almost manic excitement. He clapped Adam hard on the shoulder his eyes shining brightly. "Hey Eric!" he exclaimed his voice booming with enthusiasm.

"You’re famous man! You’re really famous now! Everyone is talking about you!"

Kado came from a family of martial artists.

They were not nobles.

They were a traditional family from a small secluded village in the mountains.

His entire life he had dreamed of one thing. He dreamed of making a name for himself of becoming famous.

That was why he had trained so hard for so many years. He had endured a grueling regimen of both physical conditioning and academic study just to get into this Academy.

And now seeing the chaos the excitement the sheer unadulterated fame that Eric had generated on his very first day... he was incredibly excited.

If something like this could happen to him if he could be at the center of such a grand spectacle his life at the Academy would be everything he had ever dreamed of and more.

The future was suddenly filled with thrilling possibilities.

He saw Adam not as a leader but as a source of excitement and fame.

This was going to be a fun four years. He was glad he hadn’t backed down.
