I Will Survive Till The End: Blood Extermination Academy -
Chapter 192: Fate
Chapter 192: Fate
Arc 3, Chapter 192—Fate
.
.
It’s always fascinating being in the District that seemed trapped in time. But this time around, no one had the inkling to admire the scenery.
The passersby were rude, and the atmosphere was often heavy. To be fair, many passersby they met overheard the conversations of a few and furrowed their brows in disgust.
Although 2/3rds of the newbie group wished to go out on the field in dangerous places, the same cannot be said for the remaining 1/3rd who wish nothing more than to get into departments they considered as safer.
Don’t get them wrong, they don’t want to leave their current state of freedom, but just want to strike a balance to ensure their safety.
Yup.
If they really wanted to feel better, they should have just allowed themselves to get disqualified in future and get deported to other departments like logistics and so on.
But one must know that the freedom they have now was incredible compared to the newbies in those ’lesser’ important departments.
Damn.
During their punishment phase, they’ve heard of newbies staying underground and never seeing the sun for 200 to even 600 years, depending on how fast their growth was and how fast they climbed up the ranks.
What?
Do you think the logistic staff they see on the surface are people who are weak or in training?
Puff~
Please!
These logistic staff have earned their way to breath fresh air at the top, and can now even head out to the outside world for some missions of their own, like ensuring deliveries are met and burying standard supplies and wants like Levon’s lollipops.
There are those in the lesser departments that stay in underground tunnels working, sleeping, waking, and doing the same thing over and over again.
They live in connected cave-like borrows, as though the surface was run over by apocalyptic monsters or something.
At the same time, these lesser department people, especially those from the logistic departments, focus on cleaning every underground nuke and cranny you can find.
That’s right, all the roads and tunnel paths they take are well maintained by these people. They also do mechanical repairs alongside the special creatures that repair the place. They feed all underground beasts, and ensure everything is as it should be.
It’s said that those in the Diplomatic Relationships department also have it rough. Although they don’t do hard work, they focus on politics and training. And the way they survive down there is solely through negotiation.
They negotiate for every little thing, even the water they drink. And if they can’t convince those watching over them, then too bad...
—Game over!
They get sent into a deadly pot, and maybe end up dying or surviving.
Political negotiation gets engraved in their bones, and even when stealing with each other, they are always alert and on their toes.
In the end, all these lesser departments have their own gruesome fates, of living underground until one successfully crawled their way out. So who would want to live like that for the next 200~500 years?
Of course, if you can climb up the ranks before 200 years, great for you. But that’s not something these newbie Bloodren 10s desire.
Oh... and by the way, they also learned something new just recently too.
It’s said that the newbies of the other lesser departments are called Sprawlings... Only they are called Bloodrens.
At the same time, one must never forget that there is another group they haven’t seen yet—the pens called Half-Bloodrens.
Apparently, these are those that during the entrance examinations, passed, but didn’t choose to stay back and fight the vampires the Order that arranged for them. It’s said that those Half-Bloodrens are probably trapped in places they might never be able to find.
As for what training these Half-Bloodrens were undergoing... who knows...
But it seems to have nothing to do with shard awakening or any supernatural abilities.
One must recall that only when you become a Bloodren 19 can you pass that stage. So it’s more likely that whatever training these Half-Bloodrens were undergoing was something linked to building up courage, agility, intelligence and adaptability.
Maybe after they graduate from Half-Bloodrens, they’ll get sent into the Bloodren 10 mansions to begin their true journey into becoming true Slayers.
Perhaps that is the only time they will ever learn the truth of vampires existing in this world.
...
Well, there was just so much to consider about the lesser departments. Either way, being in either Department 1, 3, or 4... gives these Bloodren 10 newbies a chance to walk about freely, and live what can be considered as ’normal lives.’
That’s why they want to remain Bloodren 10s, despite being afraid of being at the core focus of things.
"I think Department 1 should be the safest out of the 3... I hope I get sent there..."
"It’s department 3 for me..."
"No way! Department 4, all the way!"
As some of the newbie 10s expressed their desires, the passersby around them really felt disgust.
Cowards!
Being around such cowardly Bloodrens made their skins crawl.
"There! There it is!" One of the newbie 10s exclaimed. And with anxious hearts, the group hurried over to where they last remembered the Registration Union to be.
Phew~
They didn’t go the wrong way... So far so good...
Levon was calm and collected, enjoying the strawberry flavored lollipop dangling between his lips. No longer did he look pale and worn out from rising that sonic train. With his hands in his pockets, he followed the group in an ordinary fashion till they reached the far front.
Perhaps it’s because they were the weakest in place, but the staff didn’t bother with them for the next 3 hours. Some people even cut them on the line, but no one cared or even married to help.
Finally, the crowd around the front staff area had decreased significantly. Then and only then did the staff turn her attention to them.
"Department assignment?... This way please..." The staff already moved before she could finish her words. And should they fail to keep up with her or lose sight of her, then that was their flipping business!
40 minutes later, they arrived at a grand hall with many mega columns. And at the forefront were 24 different tiger heads.
"Form lines of 24, roll up your sleeves and insert the hand with your mark into it." With that, the staff did a U-turn, leaving them to themselves.
Please! He was a very busy person, okay?... He certainly didn’t have time to keep watch as these Bloodren 10s get sorted out one by one.
’In the end, we’re on our own again.’ Levon shrugged, joining a line with an unbothered expression.
Shugo and the others didn’t seem bothered too, but there were some Bloodrens who kept grumbling about the matter time and time again.
"Which department do you guys think we’ll be in?" Leo asked with intrigue laced in his fiery eyes.
Whether it was Artilla, Rayna, or Shugo, they had to admit that all 3 departments had their advantages that far outward what they ’considered’ as disadvantages.
Rayna shook her head and smacked her fists together hard. "I don’t care... so long as I get to fight stronger opponents!"
Fufufufu~
The gang chuckled deeply... isn’t this what they all want?
They say behind danger, is an ecstasy pill that makes the mad even madder.
Aiiii~...
They can feel it in their bones—the throat for chaos and power that kept swimming uncontrollably in their bodies.
They want exposure... they want danger... they want opponents too hard to kill... they want it all!... Every danger the Order could possibly throw their way.
In the end, their smiles kept growing crueler and disturbing the closer they got to the lion head statues. Everyone seemed to be clueless of where they’ll end up... but not Levon.
Fufufufufu~
’That red haired maniac did say he’ll be my True boss moving forward, so if can only be one thing...’
Hiss!!!~
Levon felt an even deeper burn on his Tattoo when he inserted his hand into the statue.
After the burn, he felt a small scroll touch his palm too.
Removing his hand, he realized that his tatie was no longer a simple circular black dot, but had now been transformed into a stunningly detailed crest—a crest he more or less recognized.
[Department 4—Battle and Retrieval. ]
Levon was amused. ’It seems the old Red-haired had really fought his way to keeping me, as he said.’
Recalling the brief information he had pulled out of Gaara over time, Levon knew the fate of all newly passed Bloodren 10s are typically left to the Order heads and those below them who fight for those they consider to be the top best.
As for how they’ll know what department they are in, one should never forget that on the Mission boards belonging to each department, there are gigantic crests that also indicate this.
As for the scroll wrapped in a red ribbon, Levon unravelled it curiously.
And then— BOOM!!!
