Chapter 76
Chapter 76: Chapter 76
As Remillia stood her ground, the Skarvok’s eyes locked onto her with an unblinking gaze. The air was thick with tension as the creature continued to circle around her, its tail twitching back and forth like a metronome. Remillia’s fingers tightened around the hilts of her daggers, her mind racing with strategies for taking down the beast.
The Skarvok’s eyes seemed to bore into Remillia’s very soul, as if sizing her up for the kill. Its growl grew louder, a low rumble that vibrated through the air and made Remillia’s heart pound in her chest. She could feel the weight of its gaze upon her, heavy as a physical force.
Suddenly, the Skarvok darted in close, its claws swiping out in a blur of speed. Remillia dodged to the side, avoiding the attack by mere inches. She struck back with one of her daggers, aiming for the Skarvok’s ear - its left ear, specifically. The blade bit deep into the ear’s tender flesh, and the Skarvok let out a pained yelp as it recoiled in surprise.
The Skarvok’s momentum carried it backward, giving Remillia an opening to strike again. She took advantage of it, striking twice more at the wounded ear before backing off to assess the damage. The Skarvok stumbled forward, its vision clearly affected by the attack on its sensitive ear.
Remillia took advantage of the Skarvok’s momentary disorientation and struck again, aiming for its chest cavity. The blade sliced through the air with a swift, deadly precision, and bit deep into the Skarvok’s fur-covered chest. The creature’s eyes widened in shock as it stumbled backward, its claws scrabbling against the ground as it struggled to maintain its footing.
The Skarvok’s howl echoed through the forest, a chilling sound that sent shivers down Remillia’s spine. She knew she had to end this fight quickly, before the creature recovered from her attacks. She struck again and again, each blow landing with precision and force, aimed at the Skarvok’s chest and stomach.
The Skarvok stumbled back and forth, its movements becoming more labored as it struggled to defend itself against Remillia’s relentless assault. Its tail thrashed wildly, knocking over nearby trees and sending branches crashing to the ground.
As the Skarvok stumbled closer to exhaustion, Remillia sensed her chance. She struck one final time, aiming for the Skarvok’s heart. The blade bit deep, and the creature let out a final, defeated roar before collapsing to the ground with a thud.
Remillia stood panting, her chest heaving with exertion as she surveyed the aftermath of the battle. The Skarvok lay motionless at her feet, its once-sharp claws now limp and still.
’Well, that was quick.’
She looked at the time. Seven minutes have passed, she still has time to help the others. She quickly ran hoping that she could bump into one of them when suddenly the ground beneath her feet started to tremble, ever so slightly. At first, it was almost imperceptible, but soon it grew stronger, causing her to stumble and loose her footing.
"What’s going on?"
I looked around in confusion and as if on cue, a massive earthquake struck, causing the ground to have cracks.
’Did the author add something again?’
[Story Update: An Apex monster has woken up from its deep slumber due to the noise its hearing above the ground. It will create havoc where the students are all located.]
’Apex?! Oh sh!t this isn’t good. I can’t handle that all by myself.’
Boom!
A loud explosion can be heard just a few feet away from her followed by a high pitched scream.
AAAAAHHH!
I made a group call using my smartwatch while running towards the location of where the explosion came from.
The one who first picked up is Christian.
"Remillia?"
"Have you heard the explosion and earthquake just now?"
"Yes, although it was faint."
"Tell the archmage to evacuate the all the students and teleport us there now. An apex monster just appeared from underground and it seems that it spotted one of our classmates just now."
"Do you know its name?"
"Unfortunately no but I’ll soon call you again."
"Roger that."
Christian quickly hang up the call to inform the sudden appearance of an apex monster to the archmage.
"Edge? Do you know where you are?"
"I’m close to where the explosion is."
"Good, check if one of our group mate is in danger, I just heard a scream a while ago."
"Okay." He also hung up.
"Shall we go there to help you?"
Whitney asked worriedly.
"There’s no need. Me and Edge will just gather the remaining members so tht we could teleport there safely."
"But still-"
Angela tried to butt in but I stopped her.
"This will be quick."
"Remi, promise me you won’t fight that monster."
I thought that the call already ended but I heard Cypher’s voice.
"What makes you think that I would fight an Apex monster?"
"Considering how hardheaded you are, you would absolutely fight that monster."
"I promise." I hesitated a little bit.
"You promise to?"
"I promise to... becarefulinsteadbye!"
I ended the call immediately as I can already spot Ezekiel.
"Ezekiel! Have you seen the others?"
"You’re the first one I’ve met until now. What’s happening anyway?"
"I’ll explain it to you while we catch up to Edge."

Meanwhile the students are curious when archmage Gusion announced that there’s a sudden emergency and they will need to evacuate as soon as possible.
Sir Jude can’t help but worry as the group who last entered the forest hasn’t come back yet so he approached the archmage who was instructing orders to his fellow mages.
"Archmage, why haven’t the last group teleported yet?"
The archmage rubbed his temple as he looked at him, "unfortunately, we can’t."
"...What do you mean you can’t?"
Gusion looked around them making sure that they’re the only ones there, "there’s an intruder. That person tampered the rings that was given to the group who went inside the portal. I immediately detained him."
"Then what would happen to the group?"
"Don’t you have faith in them? Besides the famous Remillia Lockhart is in there. Just by watching on how she perfectly killed the Skarvok, I trust that she can protect her team."
Jude curiously looked at him, "you know her?"
"I’ve only heard rumors about her and I can also sense that she has an unbelievable amount of mana. Let’s see if what the praises about her are true."
Gusion can’t help but shudder as he remembered his mentor talking nonstop about taking another apprentice since he’s already sick always seeing his face when he came today for the first year’s monster subjugation exam.
"Teacher, why are you so hellbent in making her your apprentice anyway?"
"You’re asking me that? Why, she’s a prodigy than the rest of the young ones I know today! Not only can she fight well but also excels in her academic studies!"
"So she’s like me?"
Professor Orion glared at him, "How dare you compare her to the likes of you? You cold hearted bastard. Only coming to see me when you have something to do here."
Gusion can’t help but roll his eyes towards his master, "I just visited you last week in your company."
However, his teacher didn’t listen to him anymore, "make sure that Remillia gets the newest advanced grade monster. I’m sure she’ll like that."
Gusion can’t help but sigh as to how his teacher ended up becoming a fool to one of his student, "Okay, I’ll be going now. There exam will soon start."
When the exam of the last group began, he can’t help but also watch Remillia fight the monster and he was really impressed. Despite facing a new specie of monster, she seemed calm and her moves were also calculated and swift. She didn’t waste any time in killing the monster, as if she already knew its weak spot.
’She’s young yet her moves were those of an experienced mercenary.’
A while ago, all their communication was cut off, the cameras also stopped recording them and when they tried to teleport them back, it doesn’t work.
He looked at the boy who informed him that an apex monster has appeared.
"Your Christian, right?"
"Yes archmage."
"Who sent you the information?"
"One of my friends, Remillia Lockhart."
’She also has quick thinking.’
"Can you contact her? Tell her that reinforcements will soon go help them and also the ring that they were given to them were tampered so we can’t teleport them back here."
"I tried calling them again but it seems that there are no signal there."
"Let’s just hope that they’re safe once reinforcements arrive."
"W-what? We can’t wait just like that. We need to help them!"
"What if they’re already in danger?"
Suddenly a group of students approached him, 2 girls and 2 boys joining Christian in his side.
"And why are you all here?"
"We’re Remillia’s friends."
"I’m sorry but according to protocols, you can’t go and why are all of you still here when I’ve already evacuated the rest of the students?"
