Chapter 72: Chapter 72

She shuddered at the thought but how come I wasn’t affected by his ability?

[Maybe because you’re not from this world? And also because you maxed out your mental attributes?]

The system answered in a sarcastic voice.

’Can you explain it more?’

[Since you maxed out you’re mental attributes, you’re now immune to any commands they force you to follow.]

’I see.’

For the next minutes, I tried not to give a damn about him, but the scent of cola tickles my nose and his wet and sticky clothes grazes mine every time he move. In the end, I gave the remaining chips to the other crowds and poked two holes on the paper bag and used it as a disguise.

I turned towards him and bluntly said, "your clothes kept grazing with mine, it’s annoying."

His gaze turned more deadly but with a hint of confusion, "get lost, girl."

Out of kindness, I decided to help him out, "I know a place where you can wash and dry your clothes, follow me."

I stood up and held my hand out to him, he only stared at it before coldly saying, "I don’t need your help."

"I don’t want to help you either but it’s uncomfortable to sit with someone who’s so sticky and wet."

He hesitatingly grabbed my hand as we left our seats. We then walked for 5 excruciatingly minutes of silence headed towards west where the training facility is located.

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
"Here’s the shower room."
I waited for him to go inside but he only stood still.
"What are you waiting for?"
"I have nothing to change."
"Oh, right sorry. Wait here."
I went to my locker, hoping to find any shirt that he can wear.
"I only found a shirt, you can just wear a towel temporarily for your lower part."
He grabbed it then went inside, a minute later I just saw him tossing his wet clothes directly in my face.
"Ooof! How rude!"
I immediately put his clothes inside the washing machine and sat down on one of the bench. After a while, I removed the paper bag and breathed deeply.
"I’m glad he went to shower otherwise I can’t spend another minute breathing inside the paper bag."
I closed my eyes as I stretched my body. It’s starting to ache due to the continuous fight she had.
At the same time, when she closed her eyes, Kairos peeked outside the shower room and was about to ask her for shampoo when he saw her face.
Kairos’ eyes widened in surprise as he took in Remillia’s face without the disguise. He couldn’t believe it - the girl who had been helping him was none other than the same girl who had fought with him just a day ago.
He felt a mix of emotions: curiosity, and a hint of intrigue. What were the chances that this girl would be the one to help him?
As he watched Remillia stretch and breathe deeply, he felt his mind racing with questions. Why did she help me although I threatened her? Was she afraid that I would kill her when I see her again? He was only joking and besides, he doesn’t kill people that didn’t do anything wrong to him.
’Let’s just leave her like that for a while.’
Kairos went back inside the shower room again. He decided not to confront her.
I started to get bored when 5 more minutes have passed.
Creak.
Remillia heard the door open so she immediately wore the paper bag again. Kairos walked out of the shower room, his towel-clad form making Remillia’s heart skip a beat. She quickly averted her gaze, pretending to study the lockers in front of her. Her mind was racing with thoughts of how ridiculous she felt for blushing at the sight of Kairos half-naked.
She tried to compose herself and focus on the task at hand. "W-why are you only wearing a towel?" she mumbled, still not daring to look up.
Amused, Kairos approached her and held the shirt in front of her, "I tried to wear it but it’s too small for me."
"That’s the only shirt I have that is large enough for me, sorry."
Kairos seemed to sense her discomfort and chuckled, his deep voice rumbling as he replied, "It’s fine. I’ll just wait for my clothes to dry up."
Remillia felt a little bit awkward as Kairos sat down beside her, still wrapped in his towel. She tried to focus on the clothes that was drying but her mind kept wandering back to the earlier incident where she stared at him openly and the way Kairos’ eyes had seemed to bore into hers.
’Did he recognize me? No way. My eyes are the only thing he can see.’
As they sat in silence, Remillia couldn’t help but steal glances at Kairos out of the corner of her eye. She noticed the way his dark hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck, and the way his muscles rippled beneath his skin as he moved. She felt a flutter in her chest and quickly looked away, trying to compose herself.
Kairos, sensing her gaze, turned to her and raised an eyebrow. "You’re staring," he said, his voice low and teasing.
Remillia’s face flushed again, and she quickly looked away. "I’m just... checking if your clothes are dry," she stammered.
Kairos chuckled, the sound low and husky. "The machine is on your side," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "so what are you staring here?"
"I-uhhh..."
Ting!
She quickly stood up and went to open the dryer. She frantically grabbed the clothes inside the dryer but because of that, she carelessly dropped one of the clothes and as she tried to pick it up, she slipped causing her to fall down.
Kairos who immediately saw this went to help her but instead of grabbing his hand, the one that Remillia grabbed were his thighs.
’...Ehh?’
Remillia’s face burned with embarrassment as she realized her mistake. She had meant to grab Kairos’ hands, but instead, her hand had somehow landed on his thigh. She felt a surge of mortification as she met his gaze, her eyes locking onto his in an awkward silence.
Kairos, too, was taken aback by the sudden touch. He hadn’t expected Remillia to grab him like that, and for a moment, he was frozen, unsure of what to do. His mind was racing with thoughts of why her hand landed there as his heart was pounding in his chest.
"SORRY! I’M SO SORRY!"
She was about to let go of him when a group of male students entered the locker area. The group of male students froze, their eyes fixed on the unexpected scene before them. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing - a girl, partially hidden behind a paper bag, kneeling in front of a guy, with her hand still clutching his thigh.
Kairos’ eyes darted towards the group, his face flushing with embarrassment. He quickly turned around while cussing. Remillia, still on her knees, looked up at the group with a mortified expression.
"F*ck!"
The group of students seemed to be frozen in time, their mouths agape as they stared at the awkward tableau before them. One of them finally managed to speak up, his voice shaking with laughter.
"Dude, did you just...?"
The group erupted into snickers and snorts, and Kairos’ face turned an even deeper shade of red. Remillia’s embarrassment was palpable as she scrambled to her feet, trying to play it cool.
"Ah, no, no, we were just... uh... just practicing some... um... martial arts techniques," she stammered.
The group of students continued to laugh and whisper to each other, their eyes still fixed on the pair. Kairos shot Remillia a warning glance, trying to convey that she should keep her mouth shut.
Remillia’s face burned with embarrassment as she realized that her attempt to save face had only made things worse. She wanted the ground to swallow her whole as she slunk away, trying to escape the humiliating scene.
Kairos looked at the group and said coldly to them, "Forget what you saw today, leave this place now."
Just by hearing his command, their eyes went blank as they quietly left the place.
Once they were gone, Remillia quickly gave him his clothes as she snatched the paper bag away from him.
She tried to run to away but Kairos pulled her from the collar of her shirt.
"And where are you going, miss? Leaving me all alone after this mess you’ve caused?"
"W-what are you saying? I-it was just an accident."
"Go to the shower room."
"B-but..."
"So you want to see me get changed here then? I don’t mind."
His other hand went to remove his towel, she quickly ran to the shower room. Kairos just chuckled at her reaction.
He doesn’t care if people saw his face, he could just quickly erase them. Good thing the boys knew what they did.
’Why?! Why has luck abandoned me?!’
She punched the wall repeatedly until her knuckles went red. The scene a while ago was so embarrassing that she wished she could be swallowed by the ground right now.
She calmed herself, "It’s okay. Kairos doesn’t know me." She tried to act cool when Kairos called out.
"You can go out now."
