Chapter 68: Chapter 68

’What’s with my fights anyway?’

Her second fight only ended in ten minutes. She didn’t even waste much of her mana. Now that she has no fights left, she can finally rest up in her dorm. She stood up in her seat and was about to bid goodbye to the other participants in the room when her smartwatch vibrated.

[You were voted by Student Rank #23 Aurora Knight to duel at 9:30 P.M.]

’What the- Another top ranked student? Have they gone crazy?’

I ruffled my hair in annoyance as I looked my smartwatch again.

’Where did my luck go when I needed it huh?!’

She thought that she could finally sleep for a long time but that appears to good to be true. I looked at the time, it was still 5:30.

’What should she do for the remaining hours then? She could have chosen 6 or 7 for the duel but 9 PM? What is she, an owl?’

Finally, the time of her duel came. She quickly went out as she waited for her opponent. She was dying to finish this fight so that she could have a quality time of sleeping.

Remillia’s annoyance turned to surprise as she saw Aurora Knight emerge from the shadows, her bow slung over her shoulder. She was even more stunning than Remillia had expected, with piercing green eyes and long, curly brown hair that cascaded down her back like a waterfall. Remillia felt her mind wander for a moment before she snapped back to attention.

’Stop it! Why am I having a girl crush right now?’

"I’m just curious," Remillia said, her voice already sleepy but with a hint of curiosity. "Why vote me?"

Aurora shrugged lazily, her eyes never leaving Remillia’s face. "I just want to avenge my friend."

Remillia raised an eyebrow. "Did Luella sent you to fight me? I don’t care about her but do you think it’s fair to force me to fight you when it’s this late already? You should have done it tomorrow."

Aurora smirked. "Your mana must have depleted already considering that you fought two matches, that’s why I think that this is the right time to defeat you."

Remillia snorted as she sarcastically said to her, "Oooh, I’m scared. Please don’t kill me."

Aurora only stared at her in annoyance.

The host shouted out the start of the fight, and the two opponents faced off against each other. Remillia felt that she’s more stronger than the two and would definitely try to kill her.

Remillia drew her dagger, eyeing Aurora’s bow with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. Aurora, on the other hand, seemed completely nonchalant, strumming a few strings on her bow with a look of boredom.

As the fight began, Remillia quickly realized that Aurora was not going to make it easy for her. The bow user was quick and agile, darting around the arena with ease and sending arrows flying in rapid succession. Remillia dodged and weaved, using her agility to avoid the attacks and look for an opening to strike back.

Aurora took the skies, unleashing a barrage of arrows at Remillia with her bow. Remillia, anticipating this, kept a safe distance and dodged and weaved to avoid the attacks.

As the arrows rained down, Remillia waited for an opening to strike back. She knew that if she could get close to Aurora, she would have the upper hand.

But Aurora seemed determined to make this fight as difficult as possible, using her arrows to pin Remillia down and limit her movement. Remillia gritted her teeth and focused on staying one step ahead of Aurora’s attacks, waiting for a moment to strike back.

The two opponents circled each other, exchanging blows from afar. Remillia would dash forward, trying to get close enough to land a hit, but Aurora’s arrows would force her to retreat back to a safe distance. This dance continued for several minutes, with neither fighter able to gain a clear advantage.

Despite the bow’s nature of the fight, Remillia’s agility and quick reflexes allowed her to stay in the game. She would occasionally dash forward and strike at Aurora with her dagger, but the bow user’s range and speed kept her at bay.

As the fight wore on, both fighters began to tire. Aurora’s arrow supply was dwindling, and Remillia’s lunges were becoming more frequent and more aggressive. The tension in the arena grew as the crowd sensed that the outcome was far from certain.

They were now both panting, tired from the same routine of defending and attacking although neither of them doesn’t want to back out. In the end, Remillia had no choice but to activate her skill, ’Serenade of Daggers.’

Her daggers glowed for a short moment before returning to its original form.

She shouted at Aurora, "since we are just repeating the same thing again and again. Why don’t we give this time our last attack?"

Aurora was silent for a moment but silently nodded as she imbued her bow with mana and as she pulled the string, hundreds of arrows appeared in the air aiming at me.

"Arrowstorm Ascension."

’Oh boy, this will surely hurt.’

The viewers were amazed by Aurora’s mana in casting hundreds of arrows. Whereas, they were already sympathizing with Remillia.

She focused her gaze on Aurora. The moment she released the string, she immediately activated ’Serenade of Daggers.’ She then threw the few daggers that she have aiming it on the arrows. The dozen daggers shockingly became thousands overpowering the oncoming arrows towards her but instead of dodging it. Remillia rushed forward, using her dagger to block the arrows as she approached Aurora closer and closer.

’Is she really mad since the day she was born?! Only a mad man have the guts to run straight into a hundreds of flying arrows! She really fits her title, "Mad Witch"!’

Aurora was stunned as she can see Remillia closing in on her so she tried to pull her string once more but can’t do it anymore as she already exhausted her mana in creating her skill.

’Why? Remillia also used her mana to counterattack her arrows so why isn’t she exhausted yet?!’

PAAK!

Aurora didn’t notice that Remillia was already infront of her as she attacked her with a swift kick that sent Aurora stumbling backward.

With Aurora off balance, Remillia quickly closed in and struck with all her might. The dagger flashed in the moonlight as it bit deep into Aurora’s shoulder, sending her crashing to the ground at the same time, her armor finally destroyed.

"Haa.. Haa.."

She stood up staggering as she raised her bloodied dagger.

The crowd was silent. Everyone who was there was once again astonished at the result and forgot to cheer at Remillia as they were thinking of different things.

"Is she really ranked 925?"

"How can she break her opponent’s armor with just one hit? Unbelievable!"

"How could she defeat a top ranker twice?"

Are they just imagining things? When the arrows rained down towards Remillia, they can clearly see hundreds of daggers hitting the arrows but when it ended, the hundred daggers where nowhere to be found already. All that was left are the arrows and at least a dozen of daggers.

Their fight was the last fight for today since it was already 10 P.M. Remillia walked into her dorm room, exhausted but relieved to finally be able to rest after her long and grueling day. She had just gotten back from the medical bay, where the medics had treated her minor wounds from her latest fight.

Compared to her previous two battles, this last fight of hers got her a few minor cuts and bruises especially in her arms and legs.

As she flopped down onto her bed, she couldn’t help but think whether this fights of her is already enough to gain her some good points. Three consecutive wins for today is good. She thought to herself, ’But how could we know our points if the judges don’t want to reveal it?’

She shook her head, "Nah, this is enough already."

She gazed around her room then her eyes landed on a small package on her bedside table.

"I almost forgot this."

She sat up and grabbed the package. It was a gift from Professor Orion, a high-grade ointment designed to treat and remove scars, along with a letter. Remillia’s eyes scanned the page, her mouth dropped open as she read the words.

"How’s my favorite student?" Professor Orion had written. "Here’s a little gift for you, take care of yourself. P.S. Remember our deal? For your first mission, I assigned you as a leader in my monster cave subjugation team. We’ll talk the details once your exam is finished."

’How did I forget this? How about my plan to sleep all day long after our exam?’

She can’t do anything about it since in the first place she was the one who offered up a deal.

’Nevermind this. For now, let’s sleep.’

She just tossed the paper and quickly dozed off as Macaron only shook his head and lifted the blankets to cover her.
