Chapter 99: Chapter 99

Then, a loud gasp. Selena, who had remained relatively quiet throughout the experience, finally spoke up, her voice tinged with disbelief. "Under a mountain? Won’t it, like, collapse on us or something?"

Watts burst into laughter, shaking his head. "Oh, that’s adorable," he said, wiping an imaginary tear from the corner of his eye. "No, it won’t collapse on us."

Selena frowned. "How can you be so sure?"

"Because," Watts continued with a confident smirk, "the walls are reinforced with a special metal, several meters thick. Not only that, but I threw in some magic enhancements for extra measure. Nothing short of a cosmic-level attack could even scratch this place. And trust me, I accounted for all possible threats."

The women exchanged glances, digesting this information.

"So we use this thing to get in?" Liz asked, still skeptical.

Watts tapped his temple. "Precisely. The only way in or out of this facility is by using the key—one that I just gave you." He pointed at their foreheads, where the runes he had embedded earlier now resided.

"That rune grants you direct access to this place. No one can follow you here, no ability can track you, and no spell can breach its defenses. If you’re ever in a situation where you need to run, this is your safe haven."

A moment of silence followed as the weight of his words settled on them. This was more than just a secret lab—it was a fortress. A sanctuary. A place where they could be untouchable.

Liz, ever the practical one, exhaled slowly and leaned back in her seat. "Huh. That’s... actually really useful."

Watts smirked. "Told you."

Layla, however, just shook her head and muttered under her breath, "Still a drama king."

Watts rolled his eyes but let it slide. He knew that deep down, they were impressed. And that was enough for him.

Watts stood before them, his gaze sharp yet unreadable as he surveyed the six women who were now seated before him.

Next Day.

It was early morning, before even the sun woke up from its slumber, and Watts was lying asleep in his apartment bed after a long period full of relentless action.

He wasn’t really that tired—or is it that he can’t get tired?—but he had gone through so much emotional drama that he just wanted to rest, even if only a little. Though, it seemed even that privilege had been taken away from him.

Because right now, he woke up with a start, looking all around, breathing heavily, and sweating buckets—which meant a lot for someone like him, who could run to the moon and back without breaking a sweat.

It took him a second to realize that he was home, lying safely in his own bed, and that it had all been just a dream.

Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm down. Looking at the side of the bed, he saw that his alarm clock showed it was 5 a.m., making him sigh deeply.

It was in moments like these that he was harshly reminded that he was still human, no matter how powerful he had become right now.

Watts calmed down and leaned back against his bed, because no matter what, he wasn’t sure he could go back to sleep after that nightmare. The same nightmare that had haunted his mind continuously ever since his ability had changed—into something associated with death.

The fact that he had watched a whole galaxy suffer because of him, and the worst part? He had enjoyed the deaths.

He was sure that was something that would forever haunt his being. Because even though he might smile, even though he might laugh, deep down, he knew he wasn’t anywhere close to being truly happy.

Every time he looked at his family—so happy and laughing together—images of the thousands of families like his that he had destroyed would flood his mind, haunting him, and he couldn’t do shit about it.

In any case, he let it haunt him. He considered it a small price to pay for what he had done. And deep down, he knew, he would never be the same again.

Watts didn’t even realize that he had been sitting there for over an hour, completely lost in his reverie. Shaking himself out of it, he slowly made his way to the bathroom to take a long, hot shower.

Fifteen minutes later, he came back from the bathroom with a towel wrapped tightly around his waist. After drying off, he put on his jogging clothes and proceeded outside for a morning run. Not that it was an exercise for him anymore, anyway.

He could literally run across the globe without breaking a sweat, not to mention this little jog. But it had been a part of his way of life before all this, and so his body and mind were still used to doing it.

Plus, he desperately wanted to get the lingering images of the nightmare out of his head.

30 Minutes Later.

Watts was back in the living room of his apartment, busy cooking breakfast. It was already 7 a.m., and although it was still early by most people’s standards, he had nothing much to do at the moment.

If you are wondering where the girls were at, well, yesterday in his lab, after asking him question after question, Layla had suddenly decided on the fly that they were going on a girls-only tour.

And considering Watts wasn’t anywhere near being a female, he had been left behind. Abandoned.

"Hey Black, where are they right now?" Watts asked to particularly no one.

The next second, however, a HUD interface appeared right in his vision, which only he could see. This was Blackbox using his armor, El Max.

"They are still in L.A., sir, considering you own quite a number of properties here. They are in ??? Hotel. It’s where they spent the night," Blackbox replied in his ever-calm tone.

Watts watched some of the video feeds from the cameras that Blackbox had hacked to keep an eye on Watts’ family. Seeing them happy, he let out a small smile, then pushed the HUD interface to the side and continued preparing his breakfast.

Simple bacon and eggs. He sat down and ate quickly, cleaned his plates, and then took out a packet of milk.

Yap, it seemed even with everything happening lately, he hadn’t forgotten his favorite drink—milk. And although the manufactured one was absolutely disgusting to take now, considering he now had super tasting, he still used his powers as a supreme human to tone down his sense of taste and smell to normal.

All this effort, just so he could enjoy his beloved milk.

Though, after actually tasting the insane amount of chemicals inside the packet, he realized he really couldn’t enjoy it the way he used to.

"Remind me to get natural milk next time," he said as he looked at the now-empty packet with slight disgust.

"Noted, sir," Black replied promptly.

"Yeah, anyway, it’s still early. Let’s catch up on some games, shall we?" he said, as his HUD changed to show the list of games he used to love playing.

Walking to the couch with a skip in his steps, he made himself comfortable, picked one of the games, and started his gaming spree.

A few hours later, Watts was taken out of his gaming world by a ping on his phone—which he now practically had inside him, thanks to El Max.

Right now, he couldn’t even remember where his real phone was, because with the El Max interface, he could do everything a phone could do—and way, way more.

The ping was a message from Pistil, who was wondering where Watts had disappeared to.

It was at that moment he remembered he had a lot of people to meet, a lot of things to do, and here he was, relaxing.

It was just that... it had only been a little while since he got his powers, yet so much had already happened. Just last week, he was still an extremely attractive but normal dude. So naturally, he wasn’t really used to this kind of life yet.

Checking his messages on his HUD interface, he quickly sent Pistil a message saying he would meet him by the end of the day.

And that was when he remembered a certain annoying—but sweet—little girl that he had saved from the Order the last time before he had gone to save his family.

It had only been a day ago, yet it felt like an eternity had passed.

Immediately, he called Eve, Chloe’s mother, to see how they were doing. And with just two rings, the call was picked up.

"Jesus Christ, thank fuck you’re k!" came a worried voice from the other side.

Watts was a bit surprised by the language used since Eve had never seemed like someone who would curse like that. But he could completely understand how she felt.

She really did treat him like her own son. And knowing that he had gone after a dangerous organization all on his own, and that he hadn’t communicated since then, she must have been extremely worried.
