Chapter 97: Chapter 97

The other four girls, still somewhat wary of Watts, stiffened in nervous apprehension, their minds racing with uncertainty.

Even Liz, though far more composed, seemed slightly flustered, her lips pressing into a thin line.

"What the fuck, Watts?!" Layla shrieked, her voice high-pitched with a mix of panic and outrage.

Watts merely smiled, clearly enjoying their reactions.

"That," he explained casually, "is the access to my hidden facility."

As his words sank in, the initial panic began to subside, replaced by cautious relief. Layla, however, was having none of it.

Without another word, she spun on her heel and stormed off in search of a mirror.

She had visited Watts’ place enough times to know her way around, and within moments, she was in his bathroom, scrutinizing her reflection.

Her fingers trailed over her forehead, searching for any visible mark, any sign that something had changed.

When she found nothing, she exhaled in relief and hurried back to the living room.

"Damn it, you could have warned us first!" she scowled, her arms crossing in irritation.

Liz, who had remained remarkably calm throughout the ordeal, nodded in agreement. "Hmm, I’ll have to side with her on that one," she said, a hint of amusement lacing her voice.

Watts merely chuckled. "Where’s the fun in that?" he teased, clearly enjoying their reactions.

Layla shot him a glare, but before she could launch into another tirade, Watts continued, "Anyway, the rune is embedded in your mind. Just will it to activate."

Liz raised an eyebrow. "That’s all?"

Watts nodded. "That’s all." Then, clapping his hands together, he declared, "Alright, chop chop! We have a lot to do."

And with that, before anyone could react, he disappeared, leaving the six women standing in his living room in stunned silence.

The women were momentarily stunned by Watts’ sudden disappearance, his ungentlemanly behavior leaving them in a brief state of disbelief.

However, the shock quickly wore off, and Liz, ever the pragmatic one, let out a sigh and simply said, "Let’s go."

Layla rolled her eyes, her usual exasperation evident, but without any further comment, she activated the rune in her mind and vanished, disappearing in an instant.

One by one, the others followed suit, activating the mysterious rune Watts had embedded in them just moments ago.

They had no idea where they were headed, but since Watts had called it his "secret facility," their curiosity was piqued, and they were eager to see what he had in store for them.

A second later, they materialized inside what could only be described as a futuristic, high-tech control room straight out of a sci-fi movie.

The room was well-lit yet seemingly enclosed, without a single visible window or even an exit door.

The walls, composed of thick, solid metal, gleamed under the cold artificial lighting, giving the space a sleek yet imposing atmosphere.

In the center of the room stood what was clearly the command hub, a sophisticated station filled with an array of controls, buttons, and hovering holographic displays.

The women took a moment to look around in awe, drinking in the sight of the advanced technology surrounding them.

It was unlike anything they had ever seen before.

Before they could even begin to comprehend the full extent of the facility, a glass door they had not noticed before suddenly slid open with a soft mechanical hiss.

From the doorway, Watts entered with a smug smile plastered across his face. With his arms spread wide in an exaggerated display of grandeur, he declared, "Welcome to my Black Room!"

His voice echoed dramatically throughout the chamber.

The four rescued women were utterly amazed, still marveling at the advanced technology surrounding them, but Layla’s reaction was vastly different.

She turned to Watts with an expression of barely restrained laughter, her lips twitching as she struggled to hold it in.

Then, she finally broke.

"Dark Room? Really?" she asked, her tone dripping with amusement, as her shoulders shook from the effort of stifling her laughter.

Even Liz had her hand over her mouth, her body trembling as she tried to suppress her chuckles.

Watts felt the impact of their reaction like a direct hit to his pride. He frowned, slightly spreading his arms in inquiry.

"What? What’s wrong with it?" he demanded, his tone defensive.

Layla could no longer hold it in.

She burst out laughing, doubling over as she gasped between fits of mirth, "Oh, brother, I didn’t know you were such a drama queen—no, wait, in this case, a drama king!"

Her laughter was infectious, causing Liz to abandon any pretense of holding back. The older woman finally let go, laughing openly.

The four rescued women stood awkwardly to the side, clearly not wanting to get involved.

Seeing Watts’ expectant gaze land on them, Selena, the ever-diplomatic one, quickly spoke up, "I think ’Black Room’ sounds pretty cool."

The other three nodded hurriedly in agreement, eager to defuse the situation.

Watts’ expression brightened slightly, a smug grin tugging at his lips. "See? Some people recognize art when they hear it."

However, Liz wasn’t done teasing him. She smirked and said, "No, but seriously, Watts, don’t you have a more... uncartoonish name?"

Her words immediately wiped the grin off his face. He scowled at her before throwing up his hands in defeat.

"You know what? Forget it," he huffed, turning on his heel and walking out through the same glass door he had entered from, his dramatic exit only adding fuel to the laughter in the room.

Layla, feeling victorious in her playful revenge against her brother for all the grueling training sessions he had put her through, smirked in satisfaction.

She even caught Liz winking at her in approval. The two shared an unspoken understanding—this was part of their ’girl code.’

Whenever one of them found themselves in a battle of wits with Watts, the other would always back them up to take him down.

Satisfied with her win, Layla turned her attention to the command center. The array of holographic screens and complex buttons beckoned her curiosity.

Without hesitation, she reached out to touch one of the controls. However, before her fingers could make contact, a voice—one that did not belong to Watts—suddenly echoed from all around them.

"Please do not touch that, Miss Watts."

The unexpected voice sent a ripple of surprise through the group.

They all looked around, trying to determine where it was coming from. Layla, recovering first, tilted her head and smirked. "You must be the AI," she guessed.

"Watts calls me Black Box," the voice replied smoothly.

Layla blinked. She shook her head in exasperation. "Of course he does," she muttered under her breath, once again questioning her brother’s absolute lack of creativity when it came to naming things.

Still, her curiosity wasn’t fully satisfied, so she asked, "So where are we? As in like, where is this place exactly?"

Rather than answering her directly, Black Box responded with a simple yet cryptic instruction. "Just follow the red light. Watts will explain."

As soon as the words were spoken, the ambient lighting in the room shifted.

A series of lights along the floor flickered, turning a vibrant red and forming a clear path leading toward the corridor Watts had disappeared into.

Liz, instinctively taking charge, reached out and took Layla’s hand, a small habit of hers whenever they entered unfamiliar places.

Without hesitation, she led the way, following the glowing red path. The others trailed behind, curiosity driving them forward.

They passed through the corridor, the walls lined with more high-tech panels and interfaces, each glowing faintly with unreadable data streams.

The sleek, metallic aesthetic continued, making it clear that this facility was no ordinary hideout.

Eventually, the red-lit path led them to another chamber, one that was even more filled with technology than the previous room.

Various high-tech gadgets and intricate machinery lined the walls, and in the center of it all stood Watts, his eyes fixed on a floating hologram in front of him.

The hologram displayed complex schematics of what appeared to be a highly advanced piece of technology.

As soon as the group entered, Watts dismissed the hologram with a casual flick of his hand.

He turned to face them, gesturing toward a set of seats arranged around a sleek, glass-like table.

"Alright, take a seat," he instructed, his tone more serious now. It was clear—whatever he was about to tell them next was important.

Okay, I know I don’t normally do this, but first I would like to thank those who have been with me from the beginning until now.

I appreciate the power stones, gifts and even the coins that you have invested into this novel although it is far from perfect.

I really appreciate. Anyway, I have noticed that I haven’t been interactive with my real supporters, and I have decided to change that today.

I need your genuine feed back on what you think is missing, what you think might be a better action or direction for the novel and lastly, is it worth continuing?

Thanx.
