Chapter 86: Chapter 86

Watts and his family enjoyed their time together, indulging in the simple joys of life.

They laughed, ate, and then decided to head to the beach for some fun.

The golden sands stretched endlessly before them, the waves crashing rhythmically as if welcoming them.

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the crystal-clear water.

Layla was the first to run toward the water, her laughter ringing through the air as she splashed into the waves. Watts followed, and soon, Nova and Lizy joined in.

The water was warm and refreshing, the salt clinging to their skin as they swam and played.

Layla challenged Watts to a swimming race, and despite her best efforts, she couldn’t beat him.

"Hmph! You’re just too lucky!" she grumbled as she flopped onto the shore.

After they had enough of the beach, Layla suddenly brightened up and said, "Alright! Now I challenge you to a car race!"

Her excitement was infectious, and Lizy and Nova agreed to watch and cheer for their favorites.

They moved to a racetrack Watts created within the literal realm, complete with futuristic supercars that gleamed under the artificial neon lights.

Layla picked a sleek red car while Watts opted for a deep black one.

The moment the countdown ended, they shot forward at unbelievable speeds.

The engines roared as they maneuvered through the twisting roads, neon signs flashing past in a blur.

Lizy and Nova cheered from the sidelines, Lizy yelling encouragement for Layla while Nova rooted for Watts.

The race was intense, but ultimately, Watts won by a huge margin, his skill and quick thinking allowing him to take every corner with perfect precision.

Layla, realizing she had lost so terribly, pouted and crossed her arms over her ample chest.

"Hmph! I’m ignoring you," she declared, turning away dramatically.

Watts only chuckled, ruffling her hair playfully. "Oh come on, Layla, don’t be such a sore loser."

Nova, on the other hand, rushed to Watts excitedly, her tail wagging happily as she chirped in delight.

Lizy shook her head in feigned disappointment and said, "Oh Nova, you aren’t following the girl code."

Everyone burst into laughter, but Nova only tilted her head to the side, looking adorably confused.

Liz sighed and patted her on the head. "You’ve got much to learn, pipsqueak."

Once the excitement of their games died down, Watts decided it was time to have a serious conversation.

With a thought, he changed their surroundings into the cozy living room of their childhood home—Aunt Liz’s house, where he and Layla had grown up.

The warm, familiar atmosphere settled around them like a comforting embrace, but the tension in the air was undeniable.

They sat down, each waiting for the other to speak first.

The silence stretched until Liz sighed deeply and finally spoke. "Watts, I am sorry for... everything."

Watts met her gaze, his expression unreadable. Then, after a moment, he said, "No, actually, I think I should apologize too. I haven’t been entirely truthful either."

Layla, who had been watching the exchange with a confused expression, frowned. "Wait, wait, wait. What are you two talking about? Should I be apologizing for something too?"

Liz chuckled, shaking her head.

Layla, seeing this, pouted and said, "What? Do I also have to say something? I didn’t do anything, right?"

Lizy gave her a knowing look, and Layla sighed in defeat. "Okay, okay, I admit I might have said some hurtful things to Watts, but it was only a little! Plus, I was desperate at that time. You know I didn’t really mean any of them... right?"

That was Layla for you—an airhead who spoke first and thought later.

Everyone in the family knew it, and despite how carefree she seemed, her words had struck something deep within Watts before.

They had made him doubt himself, if only for a moment. But he wasn’t going to admit that now.

Liz then took a deep breath, her expression turning serious. "I think it’s time you two know the truth about the Wattson family."

The room grew quiet, the weight of her words settling over them like a heavy blanket.

Layla’s brows furrowed, and Watts simply waited, knowing that whatever Liz was about to say was bound to change everything they thought they knew.

Hearing that statement, Layla was a little confused, while Watts, on the other hand, was intensely curious.

Ever since he discovered that he had the Aeonborn bloodline, he had suspected that either his father, mother, or perhaps even his grandparents must have been Aeonborn as well.

After all, bloodlines were hereditary. There was no other logical explanation for where his power came from apart from his family.

And now, it seemed that he was finally about to get the answers he had been seeking.

"I and my sister, your mother... we are not from here," Liz began, her tone calm yet carrying the weight of a long-buried truth.

Before she could continue, Layla suddenly burst out, "Aha! I knew it! You always acted way too weird to be from America," she said with an air of triumph, as though she had just unraveled the biggest conspiracy of the century.

Watts sighed, shaking his head slightly before reaching out and placing a hand on Layla’s arm.

"Let Aunt Liz finish," he said gently but firmly.

Liz chuckled at Layla’s reaction. "Oh? I didn’t know it was that obvious," she mused.

Watts, ever the straight-faced one, cleared his throat and replied, "More than obvious." His deadpan delivery only made Layla laugh harder.

Nova, however, didn’t seem all that interested in the conversation.

She was already dozing off on Watts’ shoulder, her small, warm body curled up against his neck.

Watts sighed inwardly, gently rubbing Nova’s back as he turned his full attention back to Liz.

"Anyway, the point is," Liz continued, her expression growing more serious, "our origins are... complicated. Your mother and I... we were the only daughters of our parents in a family of three boys."

She paused, her gaze drifting slightly as if lost in a memory. "Females aren’t exactly... well received in our family. We were considered burdens, nothing more than assets to be sold off to another family as well...slav... servants."

The slight tremor in her voice did not go unnoticed, and both Watts and Layla stiffened at the implication of her words.

It was clear she had avoided using a harsher term, but the meaning was still the same.

They were meant to be nothing more than objects of trade, pawns in whatever twisted system their family had followed.

Liz took a deep breath before continuing, "But your mother..." Her lips curled into a small smile, one filled with fondness and admiration.

"She was a genius. The best I have ever known. She managed to convince two of our brothers to help us escape. And against all odds, we did. We fled and eventually found our way to Earth."

The moment those words left her mouth, Layla’s eyes widened in shock. "Wait, wait, wait! What the—hold up! So you’re saying... you’re not from Earth? Like, at all?"

Layla’s hands gestured wildly as her brain scrambled to process the information. "I mean, yeah, I could tell you weren’t exactly used to how things work here, but I just thought maybe you were, like, a Chinese descendant or something."

She suddenly stopped, as if something even bigger had just hit her. "Wait... does that mean we’re aliens too?"

Layla’s voice had risen several octaves, and her face was frozen in an expression of pure disbelief.

Watts, watching her reaction, could no longer hold it in—he burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking as he struggled to control himself.

"What are you laughing at?" Layla demanded, eyes narrowing in irritation.

Watts managed to regain enough control to look at her, a smirk still lingering on his lips. "I mean... look at you," he said, amusement dancing in his eyes. "You look cute right now."

Layla’s expression immediately darkened. If there was one thing she absolutely loathed, it was being called ’cute.’

Unfortunately for her, Watts had made it his life’s mission to constantly use that word to describe her, knowing exactly how much it annoyed her.

As she opened her mouth, no doubt to launch into one of her infamous outbursts, Liz interrupted with a knowing smile.

"Anyway," she said, bringing their focus back to the topic at hand. "You, my sweethearts, have a... how do I put it... a peculiar origin."

Watts immediately caught on to the shift in her tone.

There was something deeper hidden within her words, something more than just the revelation that they weren’t originally from Earth.

And then, Liz’s gaze softened, and her voice dropped just slightly, as if she were about to say something truly monumental.

"...Which would have been okay," she continued, "if not for you... Watts."

The room fell silent.

Watts narrowed his eyes slightly, his mind already working at lightning speed. Layla, however, blinked, completely bewildered.

"Huh? What do you mean ’if not for Watts’?" she asked, looking between Liz and her brother.

"Yeah, what did I do?" Watts added.

Liz sighed, almost as if she had been preparing for this moment for a long time. Her next words were going to change everything.

And Watts knew it.
