Chapter 83: Chapter 83

Milly leaned back slightly, folding her arms as she studied Watts with a curious gaze.

"So what is this ’tiny’ condition?" she asked cautiously.

She had been prepared for something ridiculous, maybe even outrageous, but what he had requested was nothing close to that.

Instead, it was oddly simple. Almost too simple.

Watts’ smile widened slightly as he replied, "I want to be put in a place where I have the highest access to the Wikinet."

Milly raised an eyebrow. That was it? She had expected something far more extravagant from the way he had emphasized the word "tiny."

The tension that had been building up inside her deflated slightly as she processed his words.

"That’s all?" she asked, her tone skeptical.

"That’s all," Watts confirmed, his expression giving nothing away.

The Wikinet. A special kind of network exclusive to the Hidden Cities. The normal world had the Internet, a massive database of information, business transactions, news, and every other conceivable digital interaction.

The Wikinet, however, was a special kind of internet found only in hidden cities an it was on a whole different level.

Not only was it connected to Earth, but it also spanned thousands of other planets across the galaxy.

A single unified system that housed the most powerful data streams known to exist.

What made it even more fascinating was the fact that these Hidden Cities were smart cities—controlled and monitored by highly advanced AIs.

Unlike the self-learning, evolving artificial intelligence systems theorized in science fiction, these AIs were deliberately created with rigid limitations.

Their sole purpose was to perform their assigned tasks, and they were not designed to evolve beyond those functions.

It seemed that the Paragons, the rulers of the galaxy, were too paranoid to trust AIs that could think for themselves.

Maybe they feared that giving an AI free rein to develop would eventually lead to rebellion or something, which was true, at least according to the movies.

This inherent flaw in the system was what intrigued Watts the most.

These AIs, for all their efficiency, had predictable security measures. Because they couldn’t evolve or adapt, their responses were static.

That is why even if the hidden cities are run by very powerful AIs, people could still hack into the system.

If a hacker used an unconventional approach, something outside the AIs’ programmed parameters, the system would simply fail to recognize the intrusion.

It wouldn’t react because it wouldn’t perceive the act as a threat.

And that was exactly what Watts planned to exploit.

He wanted access to the highest level of the Wikinet because he was going to introduce the system to something it had never seen before—Blackbox, his AI.

Unlike the rigid, controlled AIs of the Hidden Cities, Blackbox was something entirely different.

It was an evolving intelligence, unrestricted by predefined programming, capable of adapting, learning, and surpassing any security system in existence.

However he knew that Blackbox, for now was nowhere near the level of these AIs, though it wont be long.

The truth is these AIs were really strong, too strong in fact, because if they really sensed any unauthorized intrusion, in just half a second, the hacker would be brought down and captured.

No matter the skill of the hacker or the AI helping, that is how powerful these AIs were.

A pity they had such a stupid flaw.

Milly, of course, had no idea what he was truly planning. To her, this request seemed almost foolish.

There were so many other things he could have asked for—power, money, influence.

But he wanted better internet access? She couldn’t help but chuckle internally.

I mean what kind of ridiculous request is that? Because this was an exchange, he gets this request, then they use him as bait.

Now according to the rules of barter trade, this request he made was like exchanging a whole hectare of coffee plantation for a hen’s chicken.

Because obviously, he would have gotten it even if he hadn’t asked it. Where he was supposed to stay, he would receive such a privilege.

Meaning she would have to give him at least something more for her to feel good.

She didn’t feel alright in cheating people, she liked business where both parties gained.

Though if she had even the slightest inkling of what was really going through his mind, she wouldn’t be so relaxed.

Maybe she would even try as much as possible to distance herself from him, as this was something that was on the level of treason.

And you don’t wanna know the punishment for treason, trust me, its shit.

She studied him for a few moments longer, then finally smiled. "Count it done."

Watts nodded, satisfied.

The pieces were falling into place. Soon, he would show them the true power of an AI unrestricted by fear or paranoia. Soon, he would control everything.

Milly smiled and then stood up, her novel and the documents following her as they aligned themselves in front of her.

She raised her hand slightly, and they disappeared in an instant, as if dissolving into thin air.

Watts watched with mild curiosity but wasn’t particularly surprised—after everything he had seen so far, a little bit of floating paper was hardly impressive.

"Then let’s get going, shall we?" she said, turning her attention back to him.

Watts only smiled at her in response and then stood up as well, slipping his novel into his bag and slinging it onto his shoulder.

With a nod, he indicated he was ready to follow her. Milly turned smoothly and walked ahead, passing through the office with effortless grace.

When they reached the door, it slid open automatically, responding to her presence.

As they stepped outside, they found the Captain waiting for them, flanked by two additional men who had not been there when Watts first arrived.

The newcomers were dressed sharply in suits, exuding an air of quiet authority.

Watts glanced at them briefly before turning his attention back to Milly, who had come to a halt and was looking at him with an amused expression.

"So, do you want the express or the ordinary one?" she asked, a knowing smile playing on her lips.

Watts blinked, clearly puzzled. "And what is that supposed to mean?" he asked in return, tilting his head slightly.

Milly chuckled softly, folding her arms. "Express means you get teleported directly to your place," she explained. "Ordinary, well... it’s self-explanatory."

The moment he heard that, Watts immediately responded, "Ordinary. Definitely ordinary." There was no hesitation in his voice.

Milly raised an eyebrow in slight surprise.

Her lips curled into a small smirk, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes. "Ordinary, huh? Didn’t take you for a man who likes the slow route," she said, amusement lacing her voice.

"Well, what can I say, I like touring." Watts smiled.

She had expected him to choose the teleportation option like most people would, but she chose not to press him on it.

It seemed he likes making the unexpected requests, she secretly swore to never get surprised when does something ridiculous next time.

If there is a next time that is.

Instead, she gave a small, almost imperceptible nod, and with a slight flick of her wrist, a golden card materialized in her hand. She extended it towards him.

"This is the tower’s access card," she said as he took it. "It will allow you into the top levels of the tower where you’ll get what you want."

Watts turned the card over in his hands, inspecting its sleek golden surface.

Watts traced the intricate engravings on the card. There was something about it—like a puzzle waiting to be solved, mysterious.

He wasn’t entirely sure how it worked, but he figured he’d find out soon enough. Without further comment, he pocketed it and glanced back at Milly.

"Thanks," he said simply, flashing her a small smile.

She returned the smile with one of her own. "Hope to see you soon," she replied before turning away.

"Hope to see you never," he mumbled.

The two men who had been standing with the Captain followed closely behind her as she walked off, their presence like silent shadows trailing in her wake.

Watts watched her go for a moment before turning his attention back to the Captain, who had been standing patiently throughout the exchange.

The older man looked at him, his silver hair catching the light just enough to give him a striking appearance.

He was calm, unreadable as always.

They stood there for a few moments in silence, then the Captain finally spoke. "You ready?"

Watts looked at him, then nodded. "Yeah."

Without another word, the Captain turned and began walking, leading Watts away from the office and into the next phase of whatever awaited him.

Pliz read.

A/N: I would like to really apologize. My laptop has had some few issues with this particular novel.

My other novels work well but every time I try to write for this one, it becomes war.

So I find myself having to first use the previous Chapter then change words gradually to form another Chapter which is tiring as fuck.

That is also one of the reasons I had stopped writing, I had hoped it would stop, but it doesn’t seem to be the case, so I beg please bear with me but am working on it.
