Chapter 73: Chapter 73
Watts stood in the Literal Realm, watching the chaos unfold within the facility with growing unease.
His glowing eyes scanned the dimly lit halls through his connection to reality’s threads, everything in this facility.
Looking for the source of his unease, yet he couldn’t find it. So he decided to wait it out.
His instinct told him if he could find the source of his unease, some of his questions would be answered.
So, it was the leader that fell into problems.
It was a game now, one that Watts intended to win thoroughly.
He could feel the anger radiating from the leader like a burning furnace, and the thought of poking at it a little more was far too tempting to resist.
Instead of teleporting all the prisoners out in one go—a task well within his power—Watts decided to take his time, freeing them cell by cell.
His actions were deliberate, each teleportation a calculated move designed to taunt the leader.
Starting with the basement, he began systematically rescuing the prisoners, the faint glow of their disappearances setting off another wave of alarms throughout the facility.
The leader, still reeling from the audacity of this unknown enemy, froze when he realized the teleportation hadn’t ceased.
His initial confidence in his space-locking abilities wavered as the alarms blared anew.
"Impossible," he muttered under his breath, his crimson eyes narrowing. "I’ve sealed space itself. What artifact could possibly bypass my control?"
Convinced that the mysterious attacker was using a powerful relic, the leader’s greed ignited.
If he could capture the intruder, not only would he put an end to this humiliation, but he could also seize the artifact for himself.
It would be the ultimate prize—something he could use to dominate every battlefield and maybe climb the ladder of power in the organization.
Determined, he focused his energy on sensing any disturbances in the facility.
When a flicker of reality trembled in the basement, he teleported immediately, appearing in a swirl of shadow and light.
The room was empty except for the faint residual energy left by the disappearing prisoners.
Growling, he clenched his fists, the air around him distorting with raw power.
Then another flicker came from a nearby cell. The leader vanished in a flash and appeared just as another prisoner was being teleported away.
"Come out and face me, coward!" he roared, his voice echoing through the corridors.
His shouts went unanswered. Watts chuckled to himself in the Literal Realm, thoroughly enjoying the spectacle.
He shifted his focus to another cell, ensuring the leader would sense the disturbance there as well.
True to form, the man appeared, seething with fury, only to find another empty room.
The pattern was simple at first: Watts worked through the basement cells methodically.
The leader began to anticipate this and thought he was finally closing in on his elusive opponent.
When the next disturbance came, he analyzed the sequence and teleported ahead, predicting where the Catalyst would strike next.
He arrived in the predicted cell, a triumphant smirk on his face, ready to ambush his adversary.
But nothing happened. Seconds passed, then minutes. The leader’s smirk faltered as he felt a new disturbance—this time from the floors above.
His face twisted in rage.
"You think you can toy with me?" he snarled, teleporting to the upper floor.
Watts burst out laughing in the Literal realm, feeling like this game wasn’t so bad after all.
But even then, his Eyes of the Universe didn’t stop searching for what was bringing unease to him.
Watts had already moved on, releasing prisoners from the higher levels. The leader arrived too late once again.
The chase continued, with Watts carefully orchestrating the disturbances to mimic a false pattern.
The researchers joined in, desperately trying to track down the intruder. Yet none of them caught so much as a shadow.
The leader’s frustration boiled over with every failed attempt. He tore through the facility like a raging storm, appearing in one place after another, only to be greeted by empty cells and fading energy.
The remaining prisoners huddled in fear as the alarms continued to blare.
The researchers, growing more terrified of the leader’s wrath than the mysterious attacker, scrambled in confusion.
Watts’ mischief extended beyond freeing the captives.
He made the leader’s hunt increasingly maddening by teleporting prisoners from random floors, forcing him to zigzag through the facility.
At one point, Watts even teleported a prisoner from a cell the leader had just visited, leaving him to discover the disappearance moments later.
"Whoever you are," the leader growled, his voice low and dangerous, "I will find you. And when I do, I will make you beg for mercy."
His threats only fueled Watts’ amusement. Observing the leader’s mounting desperation, he couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
"Oh, you cute, angry fool," Watts murmured to himself. "You’re just making this far more entertaining than it has any right to be."
By any chance, the leader wasn’t cute, actually he was far from it. With an unshaven beard, huge size, pot belly, greasy face.
Watts statement could only be well___ ironic in every sense.
But then, the leader’s frustration reached its breaking point. With every teleportation a reminder of his failure, he finally snapped.
Raising his hand, he projected his energy outward, amplifying his voice across the entire facility.
"Kill them all!" he bellowed. "If I can’t capture the Catalyst, then I will make sure he has nothing left to save. Every last subject, every experiment—kill them now!"
The researchers hesitated, their hands hovering over control panels. Some stared at him in disbelief, clearly shaken by the order.
"What are you waiting for?" the leader roared, his crimson eyes glowing with murderous intent. "Do it! Now!"
Realizing he wasn’t bluffing, the researchers began scrambling to execute his command.
Watts’ smile vanished, replaced by a cold fury.
So just because he couldn’t capture him he decided to kill everyone. This was madness on another level.
He might sound like a hypocrite when not so long ago he had almost brought the extinction of a whole galaxy.
But that was unexpected and it was out of his control. But this, this was not allowed.
The game was over; the leader had forced his hand. With a deep breath, Watts prepared for what would come next.
