Chapter 42: Chapter 42
First things first, I had to tackle my Creator’s Ability. If I wanted to make any meaningful progress, I needed to focus on one thing at a time. And right now, the thing I lacked most was time.
Seven hours. That’s all I had to become powerful enough to make my plan work.
Fortunately, I had a potential solution: the Time Dilation Mindscape (TDM). It could slow time within my mind, allowing me to think faster and strategize.
But that wasn’t enough. I needed something that could also affect the real world—combat, training, and creation.
"System," I called out, "how much energy would it take to upgrade TDM to affect the real world?"
A familiar, mechanical voice echoed in my mind:
[Host would need at least twice the energy to achieve a dilation ratio of 1:2. To achieve a ratio of 1:10, host would require 10 times the energy. Ratios scale exponentially from there.]
Well, shit.
A ratio of 1:10 would mean one second in the real world became ten seconds in the affected space.
That would buy me roughly 60 hours—two and a half days. Decent, but nowhere near enough for what I needed.
And higher ratios? Forget it. A 1:1,000 ratio would demand a thousand times the energy I currently possessed.
Why was anything time-related so absurdly expensive?
I clenched my fists, mentally recalculating. My current reserves couldn’t sustain that kind of upgrade. But I wasn’t starting from zero.
Over time, I’d created energy-storing orbs—a precaution for moments like this.
Whenever my reserves hit full capacity, I funneled the overflow into these orbs. At the moment, I had twenty fully charged orbs at my disposal.
Twenty orbs would be enough to reach a ratio of 1:20.
That would stretch my seven hours into five full days. Better, but still not ideal.
Then a thought struck me: my reserves replenished every ten minutes. That meant, in just two days of subjective time, I could create and charge at least a hundred additional orbs.
With those, I could push the ratio to 1:120—stretching my remaining five hours into twenty-five days.
Twenty-seven days in total. That was enough.
If I played this right, I wouldn’t just gain time; I’d gain control. And once I had that, I could systematically tackle everything on my list.
"Alright," I muttered under my breath, a determined grin forming. "Let’s get to work."
//Creation of the TDM Enhancer in process...//
//Creation successful.//
//Description:A candy that, when eaten, enhances the Time Dilation Mindscape (TDM) to affect the real world at a ratio of 1:20. However, it consumes an astronomical amount of energy.//
I held the candy in my hand, its surface glinting faintly under the light. Such a small thing, yet it held the power to alter my reality.
I hesitated, the weight of what I was about to do pressing against my chest.
No time to second-guess.
Without further thought, I popped it into my mouth. The sweetness was sharp, almost metallic, and as I swallowed, a surge of energy coursed through me.
The air around me shimmered, distorting as if the fabric of reality itself was bending.
Then came the strain—a crushing, invisible force weighing down on me. My reserves were depleting rapidly, the candy demanding more energy than I’d anticipated.
Even with my immense energy reserves, I would burn out in less than a day.
And that was just for a space with a one-meter radius around me. Expanding the reach? It’d be a surefire way to drain myself dry.
But not to worry, I thought with a smirk. If there was one thing I had in nearly infinite supply, it was life force.
Why not? I’m immortal, after all.
I decided to use my life force as fuel. With this cheat, I could theoretically cover the entire planet without feeling the strain. I really am broken, aren’t I?
With that, I activated the TDM to cover the entire room. The moment it engaged, it felt as though an invisible weight had been lifted from my chest.
At least now, I wasn’t as time-starved.
But there was no point wasting precious moments on creation right now. That could wait until the end of this session.
After all, creation was instantaneous, something I could do even en route to the enemy’s territory.
Next on the list: Immortality.
It was already proving useful, even now. Immortality wasn’t just about not dying. It meant infinite life force and vitality.
No matter what someone did to me—reduce me to ash, tear me apart—I’d always come back. My body and soul would reconstruct themselves.
True immortality.
To grow powerful in a short period of time, countless novel techniques came to mind—methods that used life force to enhance strength.
I could create any one of them. But even that wouldn’t get me where I wanted to be fast enough.
Instead, I decided to understand life force itself.
It was time to study it thoroughly. To do that, I would use my original TDM with its 1:10,000 ratio.
With five days to spare, I allocated two of them to this task. That meant over five decades in my mindspace. Plenty of time to master it.
The world around me seemed to freeze as my mind slipped into the accelerated timescape.
Here, even a single microsecond stretched into hours.
And I wasn’t just relying on TDM. I had another ace up my sleeve: the Eyes of the Universe.
//Eyes of the Universe://
See and understand all things, including universal laws.
Manipulate anything visible.
Shape reality itself.
The drawback? It required an immense amount of energy.
But with my immortal life force fueling it, that wasn’t an issue anymore.
I reached out with the Eyes of the Universe, their golden light bathed my vision, casting intricate patterns across the invisible threads of life force within me.
They revealed the intricate web of life force within and around me, each strand pulsing faintly, a rhythmic dance of vitality and energy.
"Let’s understand life force, shall we?"
I took a deep breath, centering myself. Life force was the key to everything—power, survival, and understanding my immortality. But it was also a mystery, one I’d never fully unraveled.
However now, with the Eyes observing, recording, and analyzing, and my mind working at lightning speed in the dilated timescape, I was confident.
I dissected every nuance of the energy coursing through me, mapping its flow and analyzing its properties. Each discovery brought more questions, driving me deeper into my study.
And deep down I knew, I was confident, that by the end of the first decade within my mind, I would have cracked the mysteries of life force wide open.
And then, true power would be MINE.
.................
Outside the room, Evelyn and Gwen sat in silence, each lost in her own thoughts.
"You think he can do it?" Evelyn finally asked, breaking the silence. Her voice was soft, almost hesitant, as she raised her eyes to look at her sister.
Gwen didn’t respond immediately. She leaned back in her chair, her expression unreadable, before finally offering a noncommittal reply. "Only time will tell."
With that, she stood and walked away, leaving Evelyn alone at the table.
Evelyn stayed there, staring blankly at the spot Gwen had vacated, her mind racing.
She could help Watts—she wanted to help him—and save him from so much trouble. But deep down, she knew it wasn’t that simple.
Her parents would never allow it.
It was already a scandal in their eyes that she, an heir to their powerful bloodline, had a love interest in a human.
If they found out, there would be no hesitation. They’d act swiftly to eliminate Watts without a second thought.
Helping him would only draw their attention. It would put him at even greater risk.
She let out a weary sigh, her heart heavy with frustration and fear.
Evelyn sat frozen, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The silence of the room pressed down on her, broken only by the soft ticking of the clock on the wall.
Each second felt like a countdown to disaster.
"He can’t do it all on his own," she whispered, her voice trembling as the words escaped her lips
She stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor as determination flooded her veins.
The weight of indecision that had been suffocating her lifted, replaced by a fierce sense of purpose.
He needed her.
Evelyn’s mind raced, thoughts tumbling over one another. She knew the consequences of what she was about to do—breaking the law, defying her family, risking everything she’d ever known.
But how could she sit here, paralyzed by rules and fear, while Watts struggled alone?
Her parents’ wrath, the traditions she’d grown up with, the expectations of her bloodline—none of it mattered now.
If they discovered what she was about to do, the fallout would be catastrophic. But Evelyn didn’t care.
For him, I’ll take the risk.
