Ch. 178 - Be A Good Person Like Me
📢 New Novel Launch!
The beast’s roar echoed as if it had torn through the fabric of space, descending with world-destroying power.
A black vortex appeared midair, spinning counterclockwise.
The vortex was vast and pitch-black, seemingly hiding unspeakable horrors within.
Even though the terrifying creature had only revealed a sliver of its aura, everyone in the great hall was already chilled to the bone.
The Grand Elder swallowed hard, his entire body frozen in place. It felt as though something had locked onto him, his blood even seemed to freeze in his veins.
From within the vortex, the enormous body of Chaos emerged. Though only its head had appeared, that grotesque, reeking head alone filled the hall with a pungent, suffocating stench.
When Chaos’s full body finally stepped out of the vortex, everyone was left utterly stunned.
"One... two... three... eight, " someone counted with a trembling voice, eyes wide with terror. "It has eight meridian gates… A Primordial Beast of the God Meridian Realm!?”
As the eight meridian gates appeared on Chaos’ body, the entire hall fell into dead silence. Sunlight streamed in from the entrance, but everything was still. The aura radiating from Chaos churned into violent gales, crashing around them.
“Qianxue, please talk to your friend, we mean no harm,” said Patriarch Chi Yuanbin, trying to keep calm while panicking inside.
A God Meridian Realm beast, and from the look of it, possibly at the peak of the God Meridian Realm.
He hadn’t expected this. Meridian Beasts were already extremely rare.
Let alone one at the peak of the God Meridian Realm.
And even more absurd, this kind of beast was willingly serving as the pulse beast of a human cultivator far weaker than itself.
Even though their clan was an Imperial Lineage, provoking something like this was not worth it.
Chi Yuanbin himself was the strongest force in the Chi Imperial Clan, at the peak of the Empyrean Meridian Realm.
If this beast truly wanted to destroy the Chi Imperial Clan, their only hope would be to awaken their ancestor, and even that might not be enough.
To make things worse, Chi Yuanbin had no idea how powerful their ancestor even was.
In fact, even among Imperial Lineages, there were levels of strength.
Every Grand Emperor’s war generals also varied in power.
For example, Soaring Goose Ancestor of the True Martial Sacred Ground, she had been one of Grand Empress Hongtian’s war generals. Even now, she was only at the God Meridian Peak, and had to remain sealed inside the Blooddust Coffin to preserve her life.
Whereas Sky Shroud War God, a war general of Grand Emperor Zhen Wu, had already broken through the limits of the God Meridian Realm and entered the Path of Immortality.
He didn’t need to cling to life in the coffin, his martial path still had room to grow, and so did his lifespan.
That was what Chi Yuanbin was worried about now.
If Grand Emperor Bing Xue’s old war general never broke through to the Path of Immortality, even if they woke him up, he still wouldn’t be able to subdue Chaos, and it would cost him a tremendous amount of lifespan.
...
As Chaos stepped out of the hall, it let out a sky-shaking roar, as if to demonstrate its dominance.
Then, it turned its massive head and stood obediently next to Xu Zimo.
"I want to kill him. Anyone oppose? Anyone agree?" Xu Zimo said calmly, sweeping his gaze across the room.
"I agree!" the Grand Elder, who had moments ago tried to attack Xu Zimo, spoke up instantly.
He slowly stepped forward, glaring righteously at Chi Xing and declared, "Our Chi Imperial Clan has always upheld integrity. Our disciples are honest and upright."
"But for such a disgrace to appear among us, it's shameful. I refuse to be associated with him."
The Grand Elder then turned solemnly toward Chi Yuanbin and said loudly, "Patriarch, I believe we must not tolerate this. We should handle it decisively, to set an example for the rest."
"Very well," Chi Yuanbin nodded slightly, glancing at Xu Zimo.
Xu Zimo chuckled and looked at the Grand Elder, saying, "Didn’t you try to attack me just now?"
The Grand Elder forced a laugh and quickly replied, "Impossible! I was trying to capture Chi Xing.
You are our esteemed guest, how could I dare? A friend from afar, how joyous, how joyous indeed!"Xu Zimo smiled again and said, "Since Chi Xing offended me, I should be the one to deal with it, right?"
"Of course," the Grand Elder agreed hastily.
...
As Xu Zimo walked toward Chi Xing, holding his saber Shadow Tyrant, Chi Xing panicked and stumbled back a few steps.
He looked around at the cold expressions of everyone in the hall, then turned to his brother Chi Yang and cried out, "Brother, save me! I did it all for you!"
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Chi Yang snorted. "Yes, I desire the Holy Son position. But I’ve always competed fairly and honorably. A petty schemer like you, even if you’re my brother, I can’t defend you. You’ve truly disappointed me."
Hearing this, Chi Xing’s face went pale.
In that moment, he felt like he didn’t even recognize his brother anymore, or anyone in this clan.
...
"People have to grow up eventually," Xu Zimo said blandly.
"I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! Please give me another chance!" Chi Xing begged.
"In your next life, be a good person, like me," Xu Zimo smiled.
Shhk,
The sound of a curved blade piercing flesh.
Chi Xing stared blankly at Xu Zimo, then slowly turned to look at the others in the hall.
As the saber churned and twisted inside him, blood gushed from his mouth, staining his entire body red.
He collapsed to the floor, twitching violently.
Xu Zimo didn’t go for a clean kill.
Chi Xing writhed in agony for a long time before he finally died.
Then Xu Zimo turned around, smiled, and walked up to Chi Qianxue. He gently touched her pale face and said with a grin:
"I killed the one who slandered you. Happy now, silly girl?"
Chi Qianxue stared at him in shock, then slowly nodded.
Xu Zimo chuckled, turned to look at Chi Yuanbin, and said flatly, "Unless it’s important, don’t bother me again."
Chi Yuanbin was silent for a moment, then nodded slightly.
Watching Xu Zimo walk out, stepping over Chi Xing’s corpse, the hall fell into silence.
"Qianxue, who exactly is that man?" Chi Yuanbin asked.
"I don’t really know either," she replied quickly. "He’s the one who told me where to find the Spring of Life."
Chi Yuanbin shook his head and laughed bitterly, then swept his authoritative gaze across the hall.
"Today was a disgrace to our Chi Imperial Clan."
"I expect all of you, once you leave this hall, to forget everything that happened here."
"After all, we are all members of the Chi Imperial Clan. Our honor is shared. So is our shame."
Everyone present immediately responded in agreement.
