Chapter 93: Chapter 93 - The Hunters Have Came Back

"Lord Baron" Rory spoke respectfully.

"Have you been waiting long?" Rex asked casually,

Rory immediately straightened up, his eyes glistening with a mix of deference and eagerness.

"Not at all, Lord Baron!"

"I would wait for as long as it takes, truly"

"Time is nothing compared to the honour of serving you, Lord"

"Please, take your time"

"I understand how busy you must be, and I’m more than happy to wait however long you need"

Rex didn’t expect so much compliments from just a question. Even though he knew that Rory had a bootlicker attitude, but he was quite loyal. The words also sounded quite good in his ears making Rex feel better.

"Ahem... well, you know how it is" he said with a thick face, feigning a casual tone.

"I was disturbed by my cat on the way here"

"It wouldn’t leave me alone and kept pestering me"

"I had to take some time to deal with it before coming over"

Rory, of course, knew exactly that Rex was lying through his teeth, but he maintained his smile without a single twitch of doubt or hesitation.

"Ah, Lord Baron, of course," Rory said with a bow of his head.

"It’s no surprise that even animals are drawn to your presence"

"Truly, it’s a rare gift to be loved by such creatures"

"You possess a rare aura, one that even the most independent of animals can’t resist"

"Your kindness and grace must radiate so much that even the smallest beings feel the need to stay close to you"

"How fortunate they are to have such a master!"

He waved his hand dismissively, signalling Rory to sit.

"Please, sit down,"

"Let’s talk about what you’ve come to discuss."

"Lord Baron"

"I have secured several potential business partnerships for the Prosperity Initiative"

"As expected, it was difficult to convince the larger factions, but I’ve managed to gain interest from most of the smaller and some medium-sized industries"

Rex gave a slight nod but didn’t immediately respond,

"I’ve also noticed that some industries remain hesitant," Rory continued.

"The five families, as expected"

"They don’t see the benefit of working under the program"

Rex’s expression remained neutral. He had anticipated this, as the five families had always held a firm grip on the city’s economic affairs.

It would take more than a simple economic initiative to shift the balance of power. To Rex, gaining full control of his barony was the ultimate goal. For that Economic control was needed. If he were to control the economy, almost half of his problems will be solved.

He thought back to a certain count, one who had once attempted the same. This particular count had sought total authority over his county, and, in his pursuit, had resorted to forceful tactics, trying to impose his will by intimidating rival factions and consolidating power through fear.

It didn’t end well for him.

Rex didn’t intend to make the same mistake.

"Continue on with the program for now, even if it is a few small things, it’s still something"

Rory nodded, his expression respectful.

"Understood, Lord Baron, I’ll keep moving forward with the plan and report back on any progress"

Continuing without full control was fine but it didn’t sit well with him who wanted more than that. However to do that needed a bit more time than this, at least a month or two and he would say to Rory that he could continue on with the plan.

Of course the full control he was intending to do wouldn’t be shown openly. What he wanted was the control of everything that was going on in his barony, not to show that he could control it.

Rex stepped into the bedroom, the door creaking softly as he entered. He closed it behind him with a quiet click, his eyes immediately falling on the bed where Ayana lay.

Her entire body was covered by the blanket, lying on the bed. Her form was slightly visible beneath the soft blanket, especially her curves as if she was naked. The way she lay, still as ever, was enough to tell him she was deliberately staying still without even talking to him, maybe in a form of retaliation, Rex thought.

"Ayana, I know you are not asleep, get up" Rex said, but there was a hint of amusement in his tone.

He moved to the edge of the bed and pulled the blanket away with a swift motion, revealing Ayana’s bare body.

Though the sight wasn’t new to him, it still stirred something in him, as it always did when he gazed upon her like this.

Ayana remained unmoved, her eyes briefly meeting his before looking away with a soft pout.

When Ayana remained still, pretending to ignore him, Rex had a smirk on his face as he looked at her. Without hesitation, he raised his hand and gave her a light slap on the bare skin of her ass.

The sound of it echoed through the room, and Ayana couldn’t suppress a soft moan that escaped her lips, her body flinching slightly from the impact.

"Meanie," she muttered, the word soft but clearly meant to show her frustration.

Rex raised an eyebrow, the corners of his lips lifting into a slight smirk. "How was I mean?"

She huffed, crossing her arms beneath the pillow as she turned her face further away from him.

"Master didn’t even stop when I told you to stop"

Rex’s gaze sharpened slightly, and he stepped closer to the bed, leaning down slightly.

"You were the one who wanted it," he said, his voice holding a trace of teasing as he looked at her.

Ayana’s cheeks flushed at the memory, her lips pressing into a tight line as she shifted uncomfortably beneath his gaze.

It was true she had begged for him to punish her, though she hadn’t expected him to be that rough. Despite their previous battles, Rex had never been so intense.

She turned her face away further, unable to meet his eyes.

"Still... you didn’t have to be so rough."

Rex didn’t say anything for a moment, simply looking at her. Then, without warning, he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

"I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice gentle.

Slowly, she sat up in bed..

"I’ll go get dressed," she said softly, moving to her wardrobe to retrieve her clothes.

As she began to change while Rex looked at the good view in front of him, Ayana’s voice broke the silence once more.

"By the way, Master," she said, glancing at him as she slipped on her attire.

"City Lord Austin and Callan have arrived back.

"Austin and Callan, huh?"

"They came back quicker than expected"

"I’ll speak with them soon"

Rex walked to the front of the prison where he saw Callan and Austin as well as another figure. He was being carried by Callan and his entire body was bound tightly by ropes and he was unable to move. Of course the ropes were not normal ropes.

Austin, though his posture was straight, his eyes said otherwise. Though he was also the head of his household and a person who had more than fought and had his fair share of blood and death but he was nonetheless a father.

His gaze from time to time reached his son who was now a bandit. Rex approached the two,

"Your son will live," Rex said,

"But depending on how strong his will is, and how much he follows my guidance, the result will vary."

Austin’s face seemed to soften at the words, and he bowed his head slightly.

"Thank you for your mercy, Lord," he said, his voice normal but filled with gratitude.

Rex gave a subtle nod and then motioned for Callan to follow him. The three moved toward the inside of the prison, away from prying eyes.

It was a small, dim room at the back, sparsely furnished. The only sound was the quiet rustle of footsteps on the stone floor. Callan placed the young man on a small, hard bench, his face grim as he stepped aside.

Rex’s gaze landed on the blonde-haired boy. His features were similar to Austin. The boy’s face was bruised and pale, his body tensed with a bit of resistance.

His blue eyes flickered open for a brief moment, staring at Rex, but there was a refusal to submit.

Rex knelt down in front of the boy, locking eyes with him for a moment before speaking.

"Don’t resist," he said calmly,

"Or it will hurt"

Those were the only words he said before placing his hands on the boy’s head. The boy’s eyes widened slightly, his lips trembling as he gritted his teeth. He was clearly unwilling to give in, despite not knowing what the man in front of him was going to do.

The boy gasped as warmth surged through his body, followed by a sensation of something pushing against his mind, at the edge of his consciousness, like it was knocking at the door of his house. He knew that this was the thing the person in front of him told him to not resist but despite that...
