Chapter 92 - A Weird Vision

Chapter 92: Chapter 92 - A Weird Vision

Rex’s vision blurred as he found himself seated upon a grand throne. He could feel the weight of his position the air heavy with authority, the golden seat beneath him cold and unyielding. He was the emperor, but something felt wrong.

He couldn’t quite remember how he had gotten here or why he was in this place, this palace that seemed to stretch endlessly around him. His mind was clouded, the thoughts swirling around his mind but he finally looked around him.

The vast hall was filled with silk curtains and gold decorations. Rex glanced down to see a puppet play unfolding before him.

The puppets were animated by a person with lifelike precision, moving and speaking as though they were real. The story they told felt a bit familiar to him. However as soon as he heard it he soon forgot about it as if he couldn’t remember it.

A dull headache suddenly throbbed behind his eyes, the sensation so sharp it made his vision spin. He winced, his hand pressing against his forehead in an attempt to quell the pain.

The more he watched the play, the more the headache intensified, until he had no choice but to close his eyes for a brief moment to steady himself.

When he reopened them, the scene had changed. The once grand and regal palace was now a ruin, its stone pillars cracked, the walls crumbling and scorched by fire.

The once vast and fashioned halls were now filled with smoke, the once peaceful atmosphere now replaced with chaos.

The flames crackled, the heat intense as the inferno consumed everything in its path. The throne beneath Rex seemed to no longer hold its grandeur, it seemed like it would turn to ash soon as well.

Rex stood up, his muscles stiff, his mind still racing to catch up with what was happening. He walked slowly, cautiously, through the fire and debris, stepping over rubble, his boots crunching against the charred remains of what it once was, a grand hall with the throne of an emperor.

There was no sound of life, no voices, no bustling of servants or courtiers. Only the sounds of the flames and the occasional creak of broken wood.

As Rex walked further, the chaos began to thin out, and the smoke cleared slightly, revealing an area untouched by the fire.

He stepped into a quiet, peaceful place, a playground. The grass was green, the sand soft, untouched by the destruction that had ravaged the rest of the palace. It looked familiar, though Rex couldn’t quite place why.

In the far corner of the playground, he spotted a small figure crouched down, sobbing. The child’s body shook with each sob, the sound of it echoing through the silence.

Rex’s heart skipped a beat. He had to get closer. He felt compelled to approach the child, as if drawn to it by something he couldn’t explain.

"Kid... are you alright?" Rex asked, his voice soft, though his heart pounded in his chest.

The child’s sobs stopped, and he slowly turned to face Rex. The moment their eyes met, Rex felt a sudden jolt in his chest, his eyes went wide from what he saw.

"No..." Rex whispered to himself, backing away from the boy.

A sharp pain pierced his head, the same throbbing headache that had started when he first laid eyes on the puppet play. Rex staggered back, his hand going to his forehead as the pain intensified, his vision swimming in and out of focus.

As he looked back at the child, the boy was no longer crouched down, but standing, holding out both of his hands toward Rex.

It was as if the boy was asking him to choose, to pick one of the hands extended toward him.

Rex’s headache spiked, and the world around him seemed to distort. He couldn’t breathe, his chest tight as the pain became unbearable.

And then, just as quickly as it had come, it began to dissolve. Rex awoke with a sharp gasp, his body tense, his breath ragged as though he had just run a great distance.

His hands gripped the floor beneath him, the ground wet and soaked with his sweat. His heart was racing, his chest heaving as he tried to make sense of what just happened.

Slowly but surely he caught his breath as he started to make sense of what that dream or what happened inside there but when he realized, he released a small laugh.

"Fine"

Rex stepped out of the cultivation room as his body crackle. His body felt stronger than before. He walked down the corridor, the sound of his footsteps echoing in the mansion.

As he turned a corner, he saw Ayana standing there, her back slightly turned as if she had been waiting for him. She straightened up when she saw him, her expression softening in relief as she noticed him.

"Master," Ayana said, her voice carrying a hint of concern mixed with curiosity.

"You’re out"

Rex nodded.

"Indeed, it’s done"

"How long has it been?" Rex asked, his voice tinged with a bit of curiosity.

Ayana hesitated for a brief moment, calculating the time.

"It’s been five days since you entered closed-door cultivation"

"Five days?" Rex echoed, his eyebrows rising in surprise.

"I didn’t expect it to take that long"

Five days was far longer than he expected, but the thought didn’t bother him that much. He considered it for a moment before continuing,

"It’s not too bad"

"Ayana, is there anything that happened during my absence"

"I don’t know, Master"

"I was bored, so I didn’t keep track of the time"

Rex’s eyes narrowed slightly, confusion flashing in them as he looked at her.

’Bored?’

That wasn’t the answer he had expected. But before he could speak, Ayana stuck her tongue out at him cheekily. The unexpected playfulness made Rex pause for a moment.

But before he could say anything further, Ayana’s expression changed once more. Her smile faded into an apologetic look,

"Master," she said softly,

"I have done a terrible mistake, please punish me"

Rex’s gaze turned to stone as he caught the shift in her tone. He had never let his desires completely take control of him, but five days of seclusion had left him with a certain... yearning.

Her words, awakened something in him. He didn’t expect her to become this bold after not meeting for a while. Before it was always him who was on the action.

"A terrible mistake?" Rex said, his lips curling slightly.

"Then I suppose I’ll have to punish you according to the family law"

Ayana’s breath hitched, but her expression remained steady, showing no fear, only anticipation. She knew exactly what he meant, and the thought of being with him again made her pulse quicken.

With a decisive step forward, he reached for her and easily swept her into his arms. Ayana didn’t resist.

"You’ve been a bad girl, Ayana," he muttered as he carried her down the hall.

"But I’ll make sure to remind you of your place"

Her cheeks flushed at his words, but she didn’t say anything more, letting him carry her to the bedroom. She knew what was coming, and despite the words she had said earlier, she was ready for what he would bring next.

Rex would assert his dominance once more, and Ayana was more than willing to accept it.

However, oblivious to what was happening, a certain man was waiting in a room. It was none other than the city lord Rory.

Rory sat on a chair in the elegantly furnished room. His hands clasped in front of him as he waited. He had been waiting for an hour, the clock ticking away with each passing minute.

He had been working tirelessly to secure new business partnerships under the guise of Rex’s economic program, Prosperity Initiative. After all, Rex had already set the stage by giving out the contract during the city lord meetings, and now it was time for Rory to act.

He was given extra information by Assistant, or rather Master Assistant, Ayana after the meeting with the Lord Baron. All three city lords knew that matters of the baron could be represented by her.

He had already informed Master Assistant, Ayana, about the details of what he had done till now, and she had assured him that Rex would arrive shortly. So, he couldn’t leave and there was no sign of either of them. The minutes dragged on,

Finally, the door creaked open, and Rex stepped into the room. Rory froze for a moment as he observed Rex. His attire was fine however his hair seemed... a bit disheveled, like he had come straight from somewhere else.

The most striking thing, however, was that there was no sign of Master Assistant Ayana with him. Normally, she was always by his side, but today she was absent.

But Rory didn’t ask any questions. It was none of his business and nosing into business which he shouldn’t wouldn’t benefit him.

Rory quickly composed himself and rose to his feet as Rex entered, bowing slightly in greeting.

"Lord Baron," he said, his voice respectful.
