Chapter 52: Chapter-52

"Master"

Seeing that Rex was helping the old man who had been knocked down to the ground up, Ayana finally reacted and walked up to the duo.

"Young man, I advice you to not get close to that old man"

"Aren’t you two father and son"

Rex asked in confusion. He had already seen the connection through his true sight.

"I..."

His words choked as the man face flushed and yelled angrily at the old man.

"Next time, don’t come to me again"

"Do you hear that old man"

He quickly left as if he was right all along.

"Master, are you okay"

"Should I clean up the trash"

"No need"

Ayana’s eyes were particularly fierce as she said these words. She was angry at the middle aged man not for any reason other than the fact that he had disturbed their sweet time. The old man who was helped up by Rex was already drenched from the rain. How long had he been walking through the rain. His clothes were worn out as if he didn’t have a change of clothes for a long while. But he looked clean and proper if not for the rain soaking his clothes.

"Why did your son treat you like this"

"It’s a long story"

"Young man, I am sorry that it has disturbed you"

"Young people like you should enjoy your life with each other"

With a smile, he looked between the two of them and said with a low tone. Ayana face immediately became rosy at those words but Rex on the other hand had a concerned look on his face. The old man’s voice was low not because of his old age but because of something else and the words that he was saying seems like he was going to end his life soon if he wasn’t able to solve the crisis he was facing.

But Rex couldn’t allow that to happen. Afterall, this old man was his ticket to getting a good subordinate.

Though he was quite old, it didn’t matter to Rex. He could see that the old man had never cultivated and for such a man he had plenty of ways to length his life.

"Grandpa, wait a moment"

"Can you tell me what is troubling you"

"Maybe I can help"

Looking at the young man in front of him, the old man sighed and continued his words.

"I need a lot of money"

If anyone else heard this, they would think that the old man was trying to con them off their money. But Rex knew that it wasn’t like that because he knew that the old man was just honest.

Ayana looking at the old man thought he was just a person who was trying to cheat people off money but looking at her master who seems intent, she didn’t question it anymore. During their time as a party in the academy, there were many things that Rex did was unorthodox and illogical but most of them worked and he always had a reason for doing so. She witnessed it first hand. She could somewhat guess his previous choices during the academy but this new one was not something she could.

"How much do you need Grandpa"

He held five fingers up.

"Five million?"

"No, fifty thousand"

The old man never thought that the young man in front of him would even think of such a number. For him such a number was something he never touched before. Even the amount he was asking now was something he never held in his life.

"Sure, how do you want it"

"Cash or card"

The old man blinked in silence as he looked at Rex.

"C...ash"

His voice cracked as he said the word, as if he still couldn’t believe what was happening. Rex motioned to Ayana who was beside him. Without hesitation, she reached into her storage device and retrieved a stack of crisp bills. She handed them to the old man, who accepted them with trembling hands.

By the time their conversation had started, the rain had stopped. The clouds above still hung heavy in the sky, but the soft rays of the sun began to pierce through the gloom. The cash in the old man’s hands remained untouched by the rain, pristine and dry.

The moment he realized what he was holding, the old man dropped to his knees, tears brimming in his tired eyes.

"Thank you... Thank you, young master!"

He bowed deeply, almost pressing his forehead against the wet ground in gratitude, but before he could fully lower himself, Rex reached out and stopped him with a firm hand on his shoulder.

"Don’t kneel"

"The ground is wet, he money might get soaked."

The old man let out a choked laugh between his tears, nodding quickly as he straightened up.

"Thank you... Thank you... I have no way of repaying this..."

He became silent as he tried to think of a way to repay these benefactors.

"No worries," Rex said smoothly.

"I have something I need you for, Grandpa"

"You just need to contact me when you’re ready"

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small slip of paper, neatly writing his number down before handing it to the old man.

Rex watched the old man left placing the stack of bills as well as the slip of paper which were held in a plastic bag within in his shirt hiding it from the sight of people. Before he finally left, he looked back at the direction of Rex and Ayana. The clouds had cleared and the sunlight shining on Rex made his already handsome features made him look like a prince, a hero who was sent to help him.

Rex waved at the old man, who left soon after. He didn’t know why this young man had helped him. He didn’t know what the future held for him but what mattered most now was he would be able to deal with the crisis which was looming over him.

__ __ __

"Let’s follow him"

Rex said before disappearing, leaving after images. Ayana seeing her master move like that had her eyes wide before she quickly followed.

Up above, on the roof of a building, Rex looked at the old man whom he had just given money running to the sectors of the city that seemed poverish. Ayana appeared beside Rex who was looking at him moving from building to building when necessary.

"Master have you started body refining already"

"Yes"

"Why do you think I need those materials that I sent you"

Rex said with a smile on his face.

"As expect of master"

Ayana said with reverence in her eyes. Going through a breakthrough not soon after practicing was the proof of her master being a genius. Whether it be cultivation or body refining it didn’t matter.

The old man ran into a run down building which seemed abandoned. The construction of the building seemed unfinished yet the expectation of it seemed like it was going to be built into a hotel. The old man upon arriving at the building sighed before entering the building

__ __ __

Stepping into the building, he walked for a while, walking up the stairs to many floors passing through many unfinished rooms to arrive at an opening large room. Inside the room, there were many people, young people who looked like gangsters with a few spiked hair, gothic clothes and cigarettes and shattered glass bottles everywhere. The smell of cigarettes were in the air and the old man coughed as the puff of smoke went into his nostrils.

The person in the center of the group who was playing cards with a few other people looked towards the old man before saying.

"Oi, oi oi look who do we have here"

The person had piercing in his ears, spiked hair in the middle of his head passing from the front to the back of his head whereas his sides were bald.

"If ain’t it old Cedric"

Another man who had spiked armbands, unkempt hair and panda eyes that looked like he hadn’t slept for days.

"I came here to give back the debt"

"Here"

The old man said as he threw a stack of money towards the spiked hair man who was the leader of the group. The spiked hair man’s fingers moved deftly, counting with the ease of someone accustomed to handling large sums of money. The dim light from a flickering bulb overhead cast shadows across the unfinished room, making the already tense atmosphere feel suffocating. The spiked hair looked surprised as he counted the money,

"Well, well, old man" the gang leader, said, his voice slow and laced with amusement.

"Seems like you’ve been holding out on us"

Cedric’s figure tensed, his wrinkled hands clenching into fists at his sides.

"That’s everything. The debt, the interest, all of it"

"I don’t owe you anything anymore"

"But old man, you took too long to pay"

"You have give an extra two thousand as interest"

Cedric looked hesitant before going through his clothes as if scrounging for some money before taking out a few bills and counting it slowly as if to not give anything extra. The spiked hair man grew impatient and had smirk with bad intentions as he got closer to the old man, snatching the bills from his hands.

"How about I count it for you, old Cedric, can’t have you accidently counting it wrong can we"
