Chapter 88: [Bonus Chapter]Officer Lyao Goes Missing
One video had the most views and comments, leaving the citizens of the Alliance heartbroken.
It featured a Level 7 insectoid, proficient in psychic attacks. The psychic waves it emitted devastated countless Alpha’s Sea of Consciousness, causing thousands of mechas and small warships to lose control and get overwhelmed by the insectoid army.
"Oh, my heart aches."
"Again, a psychic insectoid. Feeling powerless is too painful."
"It’s so sad, those were the Alliance’s elite, in their prime, with their whole lives ahead of them. Now, they’re forever lost in the sea of stars, never to return. So many families have been torn apart, it’s tragic."
"Don’t humans have any means to resist the psychic power of insectoids?"
"Yes, advanced Betas can. But a Level 7 insectoid, even an SS-tier Beta wouldn’t stand a chance."
"Are there any SS-tiers at the front lines now?"
"There are two. Both Betas who used the starstone to upgrade from S-tier to SS-tier are at the front lines. But they are there to provide mental support for the soldiers, not to fight."
"Don’t go, it’d be like a lamb walking into the slaughter. Such valuable SS-tiers shouldn’t be risked."
"....."
At this, Yuri asked Tuss, "What do we usually do in this situation? Rely on long-range artillery?"
Tuss replied with a nod, "But it moves too fast in the space, our fire might not catch up. Although we can’t deal with it, at least now we know it’s a psychic insectoid and our military won’t allow it to get close anymore."
Still, the Alliance had paid a steep price before this realization.
The situation at the front lines was far from promising, and the atmosphere on Planet 165 became tense. If the front lines were to fall completely, they in the Fritillaria Galaxy would bear the brunt of it.
"This morning, I heard that a private starship left Planet 165 yesterday, and in less than two hours, it lost all signals. As of this morning, the government of Planet 165 has been unable to contact it." Daleks wore a rare solemn expression.
"Most likely, there was an accident." Ender was pessimistic about this.
"There should be quite a few insectoids lurking in the space. The military is now fully committed to reconstructing Planet 165’s planetary shield," Hoolin relayed, a piece of news he got from his cousin.
Hearing this, the faces of Yuri and the others turned somber.
Two days later, the planetary shield of Planet 165 was activated once again.
On the same day Planet 165 lifted its planetary shield, Yuri received a message: Officer Lyao was missing.
The one who sent Yuri this message was Bassus, a close confidant of Officer Lyao.
Yuri’s heart skipped a beat. "What happened?" she asked urgently.
"We were scattered by the insectoid army in the space, and since then we’ve been unable to contact Officer Lyao, let alone locate his battleship. We’ve tried for three days, still no contact." Bassus, who now sported a blue-stubble beard, looked worn-out.
Yuri immediately sent several communication requests to Officer Lyao, but all attempts fell on deaf ears.
Bassus watched her and shook his head.
Yuri, face grave, said, "Give me the coordinates of where you were separated."
"Why do you need that?" Bassus said, panicked. "We’ve already searched the area using the military’s most advanced tech, your presence wouldn’t change anything. Plus, it’s dangerous here. Coming here alone is a death sentence. Yuri, you can’t act recklessly. Tuss is the only SSS-tier Alpha in this generation for the Alliance; he’s very important, he can’t get hurt, got it?"
Bassus’s tone was serious, bordering on a warning.
"I won’t go right now," Yuri promised.
Bassus sighed with relief, "Don’t even think of coming after the war, the border is dangerous."
Yuri responded with a couple of nods, "Officer Lyao was kind to us, I just want to know where he got into trouble."
Convinced, Bassus said, "I’ll send it to you now."
After ending her conversation with Bassus, Yuri left the lev in a hurry, simultaneously checking Tuss’s location on her device.
Following the directions on the map, she found Tuss among a pile of construction debris. He was covered in dust, surrounded by all sorts of metals.
"Scavenging?" Yuri asked.
Tuss grunted in affirmation, his handsome face showing no hint of embarrassment. "These metals would be wasted just lying here. Better to recycle them for my own use."
"Thrifty is a virtue," Yuri complimented, "But put away your metals for now. I’ve got something more important to discuss."
At her words, Tuss immediately collected the metals into his mecha and strode over to her, "What’s up?"
"Officer Lyao is missing."
Yuri relayed what Bassus had told her and forwarded the coordinates he had sent to Tuss.
Tuss looked at Yuri, his tone certain, "You want to go find Officer Lyao."
"You don’t?" Yuri asked.
"I do." Tuss didn’t deny. After watching live streams on the Interstellarnet for so many days, he was eager to see the scene for himself. Plus, Officer Lyao had been good to them, even gifting them a mecha. Now that he was missing, they wouldn’t feel right if they didn’t search for him.
"Then let’s go." Yuri was somewhat eager.
"It’s dangerous out there, I don’t want you to take risks." Tuss hesitated.
Yuri leaned in close to him, whispering, "The highest level of firepower my mecha is equipped with isn’t level 6, it’s level 10."
"Why?" Tuss was taken aback. His was only level 7, and Yuri’s was at the highest level...
Yuri had only been at the military academy for half a year, learning mecha manufacturing. And here he was, a second-year student, specializing in mecha combat, ranking first in every exam, and even being the champion of the college mecha competition...
Yet in Officer Lyao’s eyes, he couldn’t compete with Yuri.
Tuss felt a pang of jealousy. He didn’t need a level 10, but at least a level 8, or 9 would do.
Why is mine only level 7? A wave of melancholy and disappointment washed over Tuss.
"Could it be possible that, because alphas are more prone to impulsiveness, Officer Lyao didn’t upgrade you to level 10?" Yuri hesitated and asked.
Tuss just stared blankly, her words failing to comfort him.
"Level 7 is good too. The freshly graduated cadets from the military academy only get a level 5," Yuri added.
Tuss glanced at her with an unimpressed look, "Then why are you at level 10?"
Yuri, patience running thin, retorted: "When you find Officer Lyao, ask him yourself."
