Chapter 69: [Isha_5852’s Bonus Chapter] Strikes in Turn

The insectoid queen was massive, a single tentacle dwarfing Tuss’s mecha. It clashed against the queen’s tentacles, wielding a gleaming long sword. A single thought prevailed among the onlookers: it’s like an egg challenging a rock.

After Tuss charged forward, Yuri, too, advanced cautiously in her lev.

Over a hundred mechas had already gathered behind Tuss. Tuss spoke up, "I’m going to release the pheromone."

A shiver passed through the soldiers. They swiftly shut down the ventilation systems in their machas and reported to their commander, "Sir, SSS-tier Alpha Tuss is about to release the pheromone. Awaiting your instructions."

The commander, a young level seven, promptly ordered all machas and fighters on the scene to shut off their ventilation systems. "When the opportunity arises," he instructed, "Focus all firepower on its eyes."

"Affirmative."

Insectoids possessed psychic powers, and Alphas had pheromones. In the battleground, the struggle wasn’t just about physical might; it was also a contest between psychic powers and pheromones.

Alphas feared insectoids’ psychic powers, while insectoids shied away from Alphas’ pheromones.

Hearing Tuss’s announcement, the spectators hastily closed off their ventilation systems. Even though they were far away, they couldn’t risk exposure.

The pheromones were reputed to have the potency of a the level Ten neurotoxin. None of them would like to try that out. A slip could cost them their lives. This was no laughing matter.

Yuri took it a step further. She not only shut off her ventilation system but also injected herself with suppressants to be extra cautious.

When Tuss’s pheromones flooded the scene, Yuri, who couldn’t smell anything, seemed to sense something, so she squinted her eyes.

The red and green macha darted around the colossal insectoid queen, from top to bottom, then bottom to top, slick as an eel. The queen’s tentacles flailed in the air, but none could touch the swift macha.

Soon, the insectoid queen felt something was off. Its massive body contorted and quivered, as if in great pain. The tentacles, too, curled and twisted, some even knotting up.

It was the human’s pheromone.

Her big, vertical pupils blazed with fury. She opened her alligator-like maw to its fullest and let out a sky-shaking roar, "ROAR—"

The ground shook, and the sky seemed to tremble.

Yuri’s expression shifted, "Everyone, retreat! She’s using psychic powers."

But it was too late.

Screams filled the public channel. The onlookers’ levs and machas swayed and staggered.

"Don’t cover your heads, retreat first," Tyrone’s voice rang out.

Despite their pain, the pilots managed to steer their levs and mechas backward.

Those further away were somewhat spared, but those closest to the insectoid queen bore the brunt of the psychic onslaught. Weaker ones passed out, their machas tumbling from the sky; stronger ones bled from every orifice, their Consciousness Sea in turmoil, incapacitated by the psychic power.

As everyone else fell back, Yuri’s lev pressed on.

"Tuss, are you okay?" Yuri asked.

"I’m fine," Tuss’s voice was raspy, belying his words.

Tuss’s pheromones still permeated the air while he slashed repeatedly at the tentacle gripping a large lev.

The large lev was being squeezed out of shape, its power system destroyed, and its insides dark. The fate of its two hundred-plus passengers was uncertain.

"Yuri, don’t come over, I’ll be fine soon," Tuss said. He was on the other side of the insectoid queen, not in a position to see Yuri, but he just knew she wouldn’t stay put.

"Sweetie, don’t come over. I’ll be okay soon," Tuss tried to keep his voice soft, but he was as pale as a ghost, his face streaked with blood.

Releasing a large amount of pheromones and the insectoid queen’s attack were rapidly draining him.

His vision started to blur, but he couldn’t fall. He had to save people, and he had to face this insectoid queen...

The intense pheromones made the insectoid queen wiggle in agony, and it wanted to leave.

However, before leaving, it intended to exterminate these humans.

The insectoid queen opened its mouth wide again...

"Retreat!" the commander yelled, his voice echoing in everyone’s ears.

The commander was desperate; his soldiers were either unconscious or incapacitated. There was no escape.

Gritting his teeth, a sense of grim resolve and desperation filled his eyes.

He steered his fighter, bombarding the insectoid queen’s gaping maw with cannon fire.

Come on. Even in death, he intended to take out one of her teeth.

Yuri whirled around, seeing the massive open mouth and even, through her window, smelling the fetid stench emanating from it.

"Tuss, fall back. I’ve got this," she said calmly.

"No, Yuri, don’t do this alone, it’s a the level Five insectoid, it—" Tuss’s voice cut off, replaced by a muffled groan. His head felt like it was going to explode.

This was the psychic wave of the insectoid queen, even more potent than the previous one.

Now, it was Yuri’s turn to act.

If the insectoid queen’s psychic power was a wave, indiscriminate in its attack, then Yuri’s was a blade, a knife, with a very specific target.

She aimed to pulverize its brain, its gray matter...

The insectoid queen let out a heart-wrenching wail, its yellow pupils instantly filled with blood-red, an utterly terrifying sight.

It whipped its head around, trying to shake off whatever had invaded its brain.

The distant spectators were flummoxed.

"What’s happening?"

"Is it driven mad by Tuss’s pheromone?"

"Can pheromones be used this way? I thought making it hurt so much it lost the ability to attack was the best the pheromones can do."

"...."

Unlike the puzzled crowd, Ender and his team seemed to understand what was happening.

Ender: "Yuri has made her move."

Kilana: "Yuri is so powerful."

Daleks: "If I ever annoy Yuri again, just punch me." If a level-five insectoid queen could be driven mad by Yuri—

Daleks felt a chill run down his spine. He repeated, "Never, ever cross Yuri. Remember that."

Ender and Kilana: "...." They were too busy trying to stay on Yuri’s good side.

Yuri’s psychic power clashed with the insectoid queen’s mental wave, and finally, a part of it broke through the queen’s mental barrier, entering its Ocean of Awareness.

"Explode."

Yuri gritted her teeth, setting off an explosion in the insectoid queen’s mind.

Simultaneously, the insectoid queen’s psychic waves pulsed out in all directions.

The young commander could no longer hold on. Even before he got close to the insectoid queen’s massive mouth, he lost consciousness. As he fell into a deep slumber, his heart was filled with nothing but despair and melancholy.

Fireworks kept lighting up in the insectoid queen’s Ocean of Awareness. Yuri, the one who was transmitting and igniting these "fireworks", was deathly pale, but thankfully, the effect was evident.

The insectoid queen was close to breaking down. It used a dozen tentacles to clutch its head, and its mountain-sized body crashed down.

The lev it had been gripping was flung into the sky.

Tuss collapsed inside his mecha, watching helplessly as the lev carrying more than two hundred people flew past him and ascended.

At such a height, a battered lev—if it lands, the only outcome would be a devastating crash.
