I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 57: Proving Strength
Chapter 57: Proving Strength
"Is that you?" Ender and Daleks gasped in unison.
They had convinced themselves that Yuri was just an ordinary woman with a disability, but now everything seemed to add up.
"No wonder," Ender mumbled. "Tuz was so fond of you. How could he have eyes for any other beta?"
Swallowing nervously, Daleks blurted out, "Can you really save Tuz?"
Yuri remained silent, because she was unable to promise anything before she saw Tuss in person.
"Let me take you to Officer Lyao," Ender offered, removing his coat and draping it over Yuri. "Stay hidden."
"Yes, yes, make sure you stay hidden," Daleks chimed in, placing his own hat on Yuri’s head. "We can’t let anyone know who you are."
The fate of Tuz served as a warning. They couldn’t expose Yuri to the same risk.
With the coat zipped up to the top and the oversized hat securely on, Yuri was completely concealed, her eyes hidden under the brim of the hat.
Grabbing Yuri’s hand to prevent her from stumbling, Ender led the way in a rush, only to be halted before they reached Officer Lyao.
"I am the grandson of Marek Wynn, and I urgently need to see Officer Lyao," Ender demanded.
Once the soldier had ensured that Yuri was no threat, he finally said, "Follow me."
"Stay silent. I’ll do the talking," Ender whispered to Yuri.
She nodded in response.
When they finally stood before Officer Lyao, Ender got straight to the point. "Officer Lyao, we have urgent business with you."
As he spoke, Ender glanced at the people around Officer Lyao.
Seeing Ender’s seriousness, Officer Lyao dismissed his attendants before asking, "What is it?"
"We have a way to save Tuz," Ender announced.
Officer Lyao frowned, displeasure clear on his face. "This isn’t a place for wild claims or pranks."
"Officer Lyao, I assure you it’s true. I stake my grandfather’s honor on it," Ender replied, invoking his grandfather’s esteemed status as a level five commander.
Still skeptical, Officer Lyao retorted, "Stop fooling around. Lives are at stake here."
"We’re not fooling around. She truly can save him," Ender insisted with pleading eyes. "Please let us in."
Turning his gaze to Yuri, Officer Lyao asked, "Who is she?"
"I’ll explain later. Right now, it’s too risky with all these people around. Don’t hesitate, or it will be too late," Ender’s voice choked with urgency.
Looking at Ender, Officer Lyao warned, "If anything goes wrong, I won’t be able to answer to your grandfather."
"He won’t be coming in," the so far silent Yuri spoke up.
Recognizing Yuri’s voice, Officer Lyao rebuked, "Enough! Tuz is in bad shape. Your presence now will do no good. Tuz wouldn’t want you to risk your life either."
"No, he’s waiting for me." Yuri lifted the brim of her hat, meeting Officer Lyao’s eyes. "If I prove that I can save him, will you let me in?"
"How will you prove it?" Officer Lyao blurted out.
In the next instant, Yuri seized his wrist, her speed so fast that even he, an SS-tier alpha, couldn’t dodge.
Officer Lyao was stunned.
But the real shock came next—
As someone tormented for years by a Sea of Consciousness in turmoil, where even an S-tier beta could only temporarily alleviate his pain, an unprecedented calm descended upon Officer Lyao’s turbulent Sea of Consciousness after Yuri grabbed his wrist. It was like the angry sea had stilled, and the smoke of a chaotic battlefield had cleared.
He experienced a tranquility and relief he’d never known before.
Officer Lyao was dumbfounded, losing his composure.
"May I enter now?" Yuri asked.
Ender, standing by, had no idea what Yuri had done, but seeing Officer Lyao’s reaction, he knew it was something extraordinary.
Regaining his wits, Officer Lyao asked, "Are you really confident?"
"I once calmed a dozen rampaging alphas at the same time," Yuri replied.
Officer Lyao gritted his teeth. "I’ll allow you in. But if things go south, you need to retreat immediately."
"Understood," Yuri agreed.
Officer Lyao personally escorted Yuri to the caution line, accompanying her past it. "This is it. You’ll have to proceed alone from here."
Yuri nodded and strode ahead.
"Hold on," Officer Lyao called out.
Yuri turned back, her cold eyes staring at him.
"Remember, not just Tuss, but the Alliance needs you, too. You must take care of yourself," Officer Lyao pleaded, his tone earnest.
Always feeling a sense of alienation from this world, Yuri suddenly felt a tinge of connection.
Without a word, Yuri vanished from sight in a blink, leaving everyone in stunned silence.
"She’s fast," Ender murmured.
Am I doing the right thing? Officer Lyao began to second-guess his decision. Yuri is a beta whose value and importance are no less than Tuss’s. Losing Tuss was already a massive blow to the Alliance; losing Yuri will be...
Officer Lyao shook his head, realizing he’d be in deep trouble if something happened to Yuri.
"If you didn’t let her in, she would resent you, and the Alliance," Ender remarked.
Although he hadn’t known Yuri long, it was apparent that she was someone who held deep grudges and didn’t hesitate to act upon them.
"And even if you didn’t let her in, she would force her way through. You couldn’t stop her," Ender added.
Officer Lyao was speechless, unable to argue.
Yuri had seen countless bloody scenes, but nothing compared to what she saw now: countless pieces of flesh and organs, pools of blood so abundant there was no place to step.
Who has done this? Is Tuss still alive? She thought to herself.
Using her psychic power, Yuri searched continuously until she finally sensed a weak presence in a deep pit.
As she neared the pit, the chaotic psychic power grew denser. The invisible mental threads were like robust steel wires, lashing out and driving away anyone who dared approach.
When she stood at the edge of the pit, the psychic power was almost palpable.
Frowning, Yuri severed the wildly dancing mental threads one by one.
"Tuss?" she called softly.
Regardless of whether there was a response, she jumped down into the pit.
In the dim light, she took in the situation at the bottom of the pit, and then, she froze in place.
Outside, the anxious Officer Lyao suddenly heard a subordinate report, "Sir, we’re picking up a signal from inside."
Officer Lyao paused, turning to look at Ender. As if seeking confirmation, he asked, "Did she really do it?"
Ender wasn’t certain either. "Should we go in and check?"
"No, let’s wait a bit longer. Get the medical team ready with a treatment pod," Officer Lyao ordered.
Just as he finished speaking, Ender’s opticomputer chimed, "It’s Yuri."
He quickly pressed the button to accept the call.
"Tuss has severe injuries to his abdomen, head, and chest, but his right hand is the worst. Part of his wrist is shattered," Yuri quickly reported, her eyes firmly fixed on the mangled, limp wrist.
"We’re coming in now," Ender said, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Yuri, hide yourself. Our team will be there in two minutes," Officer Lyao said, his heart finally lightening somewhat.
"Alright, but hurry," Yuri urged.
