I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 51: Tuss Can’t Lose
Chapter 51: Tuss Can’t Lose
Yuri eyed Tuss, wondering if he understood the gravity of the situation.
Tuss seemed to read her thoughts, expressing reluctantly, "I know people in security, I can talk to them."
Before he could say another word, the security team’s captain rushed him along, "What took you so long? It’s almost over! Hurry up, get in there."
The captain hurried Tuss toward the arena. Yuri curiously asked, "He knows that Tuss has differentiated into an Alpha?"
Yuri was wrong. The captain didn’t know. He just trusted Tuss and decided to take a chance. Tuss had never let them down. So the captain thought maybe Tuss could again pull off a miracle this time.
With the captain guiding him, Tuss was led straight to the edge of the contest platform, just below the supreme seats.
On the other side, Yuri returned to her seat.
"So soon?" The elder remarked in surprise.
Yuri just nodded, her eyes tracking Tuss who was engaged in conversation with some officials.
"You’re going in?" Officer Lyao didn’t sound pleased. "Not to mention your legs, but aren’t you—"
"No, I still am," Tuss interrupted Officer Lyao.
"But your legs?" Officer Lyao still disagreed.
"They can’t win the match, but I... I can," Tuss declared, his determined eyes held a persuasive power.
Officer Lyao held Tuss’s gaze for a few seconds before speaking, "You must stand by your words."
"I know," Tuss replied.
The Alliance requested a substitution. The Empire, having won four rounds, disagreed.
"Two opportunities to use the starstone," Tuss suddenly proposed. As the Empire’s officials looked his way, he continued, "If we lose, you get two uses of the starstone."
The Empire’s officials’ eyes sparkled. Before they could respond, an official from the Alliance spoke first, reprimanding, "Tuss, step down."
Tuss didn’t move. He turned to the official, "If I step down, the Alliance loses a chance to use the starstone. Don’t worry, I can win."
The official scoffed, "We’ve already lost four rounds."
"That’s why we need to win even more. We can’t lose five in a row," Tuss responded with a sharp edge to his voice.
"Let him do it, I trust him," Officer Lyao chimed in.
"But that’s two uses of the starstone," another official argued.
"Don’t forget, the starstone was brought back by Tuss. He worked hard to bring the starstone back to Planet Alpha. He cares about it more than us," Officer Lyao countered.
No one else spoke.
With that, it was decided. Tuss would compete.
Tuss is going to compete? The students in the arena wore varied expressions, but the ones looking the grimmest were Thanos and Vivian, the couple.
"Why does he get to?" Thanos was grinding his teeth.
Vivian stared at Tuss’s figure. This was the first time she’d seen Tuss standing since he’d lost the use of his legs.
Vivian thought to herself, Tuss seems just as he has always been, standing tall and handsome. But, as Thanos said, why does he get the chance? After all, he’s now just a cripple.
The audience was mostly military academy students, known for their discipline. Despite their doubts and questions, none of them spoke up.
No matter what they felt privately, they understood the need for unity and solidarity against their opponent.
So, when Tuss stepped into the ring, the arena still erupted with fervent applause and cheers.
"Tuss, knock him flat!" Yuri suddenly stood up and shouted, startling the elderly man next to her.
Tuss looked towards her from the contest platform, his lips curving into a charming smile. In that moment, the whole arena seemed to brighten, like spring arriving after a long winter.
He waved at Yuri, saying, "No problem."
The crowd was stunned. Someone even blurted out, "Holy smokes, I didn’t know Tuss could smile."
The contestant from the Empire laughed, his face a mix of contempt, mockery, and disdain. "For the sake of your pretty girlfriend, I’ll make your defeat look good."
"For my girlfriend, I can feel sorry for you because you’ll have no chance," Tuss replied.
Before the Empire’s contestant could comprehend Tuss’s words, a piercing woodsy scent attacked him, his cells screaming in agony.
It hurt.
This was the strongest pheromone he had ever encountered.
Simultaneously, Tuss moved. Like a bolt of lightning, he was nothing more than a blur. The next instant, he was standing at the Empire contestant’s spot, while the contestant himself was sprawled on the ground below the platform, clutching his stomach, too pale and pained to speak.
Silence.
In the vast arena, not a single soul spoke.
Everyone was too shocked, staring in disbelief at the scene before them. Is it over already?
Among everyone present, Yuri was the calmest. Leaning back in her chair, she leisurely clapped her hands.
The sound of her clapping refocused everyone’s attention, and the next second, everyone rose to their feet, clapping wildly, cheering, shouting—
"We won!"
"Tuss, first chair of all time, I love you!"
"Tuss, you’re the best!!"
"Tuss, I want to marry you!"
"...."
The students were screaming at the top of their lungs.
A look of exasperation crossed Yuri’s face as she noticed that some of the people yelling proposals to Tuss were guys.
"I’m already married, and I won’t get a divorce," Tuss responded coolly.
His response only seemed to fuel the students’ enthusiasm.
"I don’t mind!"
"I want to have your child!"
"....." Yuri’s lip twitched. Seriously? The young man’s shouting about having Tuss’s child?
Tuss had won one round, and Tyrone another. Now, they had to face the four SS-tier alphas who had won their first rounds.
There was a ten-minute break.
Tuss and Tyrone were called over by Officer Lyao and others.
"Good job," Officer Lyao slapped Tuss’s shoulder heartily. He asked curiously, "Wasn’t it rumored that you lost your Sea of Consciousness, that your gland shrunk, and that you’re no longer an Alpha?"
"Yes. But then I went through another differentiation," Tuss admitted honestly.
Officer Lyao was surprised, "You differentiated again?"
Tuss didn’t know how to answer that question, so he remained silent.
"What’s your tier now?" Officer Lyao asked. The people nearby pricked up their ears, curious.
"I haven’t tested it yet," Tuss replied honestly.
Officer Lyao: ".....get it tested after this."
Tuss nodded.
Officer Lyao then turned to Tyrone, "You set a good precedent earlier. Do you feel confident moving forward?"
"Yes." Tyrone’s reply was firm and resonant.
Officer Lyao grinned, "Good. Keep it up. Tuss, you too, remember what you said earlier."
"Yes." Tuss puffed out his chest.
When the break ended, Tuss and Tyrone returned to the platform. Tyrone was the first to begin this time, but despite fighting valiantly for over ten minutes, he lost.
Tyrone’s defeat left him battered and bruised, almost unrecognizable. The sight was heart-wrenching for the audience. Some of the students even began to cry.
Then tt was Tuss’s turn now.
The crowd held their breath, hearts in their throats.
He was the Alliance’s last participant.
Tuss, you must not lose.
