Chapter 100: Chosen as the Campus Queen
Officer Lyao exited the sanatorium, returning to report to the First Commander.
Upon hearing the full account, the Commander showed both surprise and a sense of expectedness. "His thinking has always been different from the rest. And his beta, it’s always been the best. He’s been saying that for decades—it’s nearly an absolute truth."
Officer Lyao nodded, asking, "What should we do now?"
"We wait for him to figure it out. When he does, he’ll come find us," replied the Commander, cool as a cucumber.
Indeed, just as the First Commander predicted, an hour later, Perseman came rushing in.
Panting heavily, he asked immediately upon entering, "What’s going on?"
The First Commander set aside the documents in his hands, "Didn’t you figure it out?"
Perseman shook his head, "No, I didn’t. I thought the Alliance had come up with a new drug or something."
"Do you still think so?" asked the First Commander, somewhat surprised that Perseman hadn’t figured it out yet.
"Drug effects don’t last this long. Plus, I’m sure I’m completely sober now. I don’t feel drugged at all. So, what’s going on? Who helped me sort out my Sea of Consciousness? As soon as I entered the vault, my Sea of Consciousness totally collapsed. How could it possibly..." Perseman’s voice trailed off, his face mirroring his disbelief.
The First Commander gazed at him, waiting for him to calm down before speaking, "The Alliance may have a new SSS-tier beta."
Perseman gasped, "Really?"
The Commander nodded slowly, "Didn’t you always wonder why my condition has improved so much? Two months ago, she helped me sort out my Sea of Consciousness."
"But how could... my Sea of Consciousness was..." Perseman mumbled.
"You’re standing here now. This has happened. There are no impossibilities," the First Commander interrupted him.
It was as if Perseman had been struck by lightning. He paused for a moment before finally saying, "I’d like to meet this SSS-tier beta."
"She’s still confidential. Remember what happened with Tuss? The Alliance can’t afford that kind of loss again," the Commander responded.
"Even I can’t know?" Perseman questioned.
"No. The fewer people know, the less risk," the Commander answered decisively.
"And if someone else asks? How am I supposed to respond? Do you think you can keep it secret? You’re just fooling yourself. Even if people are afraid to ask me or you, Boan is not," Perseman retorted coldly.
Boan was the Third Commander, holding a position of power equal to theirs.
"If Boan wants to find out, there’s nothing he can’t uncover," Perseman fixed his gaze on the First Commander, "Do you think he won’t investigate?"
The First Commander fell silent. If Boan were to investigate, it would likely stir up quite a bit of attention.
Perhaps it would be better to inform him proactively.
"Forget it, let’s call him over as well. We need to discuss a charter."
When Yuri returned from the sanatorium to the manor, it was already eleven o’clock at night. She went straight to bed as soon as she got home. Her body hadn’t fully recovered yet and she needed proper rest—no late nights for her.
She fell asleep within seconds, completely oblivious to the fact that the three most powerful men of the Alliance had stayed up all night because of her.
The next day was the enrollment day at Military Academy No. 1. Yuri and Tuss rose early, quickly washing and drinking a bottle of Nutrient Fluids each before setting off for the academy.
"Have Ender and the others returned yet?" Yuri asked.
"They’ll arrive by tonight at the latest. Registration is open until tomorrow, there’s no rush," Tuss replied.
Just as Yuri was about to respond, a video call from Daleks popped up.
"Yuri, wait for us, let’s register together tomorrow," Daleks pleaded as soon as she answered.
Tuss’ face turned cold as he said, "Too late, we’re on our way to the academy now."
"No, wait for us. We’ll all go together tomorrow," Daleks urged.
"Yeah, turn around and go back, we’ll go tomorrow," Ender chimed in.
Kilana didn’t say anything, but she called out, "Yuri."
Yuri sighed, "It’s just registration, it’s not a big deal if we don’t all go together."
"Tuz, did you buy all of Yuri’s necessities?" Ender asked.
Tuss frowned, realizing he had forgotten.
"Go and buy them now. Remember, buy the best for Yuri. If you don’t have enough money, I do," Ender declared.
"I have money too. I’ll transfer it to you right now," Daleks began the transfer.
"I’ll send some too," Kilana followed suit.
Tuss, with a scowl, ended the call.
Yuri wore a complex expression. These are three debtors acting like they were high rollers. How can they be so grand?
Looking at Tuss, she saw a hint of regret in his eyes. Maybe we shouldn’t have bought those three mechas in the first place.
"Are we still going to the academy?" Yuri asked.
"Yes," Tuss affirmed. If they wanted him to wait, he would do the opposite out of sheer stubbornness.
On the other end, after being hung up on, Daleks frowned and said, "Will Tuz listen to us?"
"No," Ender confidently replied.
"You guys are trying to provoke him on purpose?" Tyrone was confused.
"No, we genuinely want to register with Yuri. She’s been off school for half a year, and she probably forgot most of what she learned. She might feel insecure and anxious; she needs our encouragement," Daleks earnestly explained.
Tyrone turned away, thinking that the Yuri he knew must be different from the one Daleks knew.
"There’s a vote for the campus queen on the school network," Kilana announced.
"The voting starts even before school begins?" Hoolin chimed in, "Are they excluding the freshmen?"
"If you don’t like it, upload your own picture," Daleks nonchalantly replied, "Anyway, regardless of the girls competing this year, my loyalty is unwavering, I’ll only vote for Yuri."
The rest exchanged glances and agreed.
"Why don’t we take a look at the candidates first?" Tyrone, who was from Military Academy No. 2 and didn’t have access to Military Academy No. 1’s school network, was quite curious about the campus queen election.
Hearing that, everyone gathered together to scroll through the candidates’ pictures, also checking out the comments below.
"Haven’t we had a vote last year? Are we doing it again this year? Aren’t it the same three?"
"Yeah, are there any more beautiful girls than Vivian, Sarmantha, and Shyya?"
"A timid word from a freshman, maybe the new girls are even more beautiful?"
"Cut the crap, I’ve looked at the freshman data. Solid proof, there’s none prettier," one user retorted.
"You’ve checked out thousands of people? What if you missed someone? As a freshman, I challenge that," another replied defiantly.
"If you don’t agree, take a look for yourself. Or meet us on the field, let us seniors teach you about respecting your elders."
"Bring it on, I’m not afraid of you."
"Both of you shut up. Before you fight, check the voting rankings."
"What about the rankings?"
"There’s vote rigging going on."
Hearing this, Daleks and the others exchanged glances. Is someone really daring enough to cheat in Military Academy No. 1?
Intrigued, they went to check the rankings.
Then they saw the name in first place, leading the pack with tens of thousands of votes while the second place only had single digit votes.
The most terrifying part was that the first place votes were still surging.
"That’s... That’s Yuri, right?" Daleks asked uncertainly.
