Chapter 752: Chapter 235: The Most Thrilling Zombie Game in History!
Though Dream Factory’s opening day already crowded the gates with visitors,
most of them flocked there for the so-called offline panoramic game hall Dream Factory boasted.
Before the number one player, these halls claiming immersive experiences were basically VR experience pavilions.
One would put on a VR headset and then step onto an omnidirectional treadmill, with a waist harness to hold the players in place.
But this time, the panoramic experience hailed by the number one player claimed no equipment was necessary; simply entering allowed the full experience.
This piqued the curiosity of all the visitors.
People queued up early in the morning, eager for this very experience.
Even some streamers specially purchased fixed-camera gear to wear on their heads, waiting to enter as soon as the venue opened to broadcast it live to their fans.
When two o’clock in the afternoon arrived,
the panoramic experience hall officially unveiled.
A red curtain was drawn back by staff, revealing the entrance of the experience hall to all the queued visitors.
To the left, a range of melee and ranged weapons were displayed; to the right, a painting depicted a bridge jammed with cars, with countless zombies wandering near the vehicles in a scene of gunsmoke and corpses—a desolate sight under the afterglow of the setting sun,
and above the entrance hung several bloodstained characters:
"Fade to Light"
As the staff opened the gates,
visitors were let in sequentially.
A pitch-black narrow corridor stretched out before everyone.
It was winter, yet to create the desired atmosphere inside the corridor, no heating was provided—instead, the temperature of the outside was maintained.
The ’whoosh’ of the exhaust fans psychologically intensified the cold felt by those who entered.
"Fuck, are they actually blasting the air con?" The moment this Tianjin accent broke out, some nearby visitors recognized the speaker.
"Holy shit! Mr. Yin??"
"Damn, big bro, you’re here too?"
"No way, it’s actually Yin!"
The game hadn’t even started, and many visitors recognized Yin, who had blended into the crowd.
Airdrop was offline, donning a baseball cap and a down jacket wrapped tightly around him, shivering.
Yin had come here primarily to satisfy the curiosity of his fans who couldn’t attend.
Secondarily, as a loyal fan of the number one player, he also wanted to be among the first to experience the so-called panoramic game hall.
After politely greeting the visitors, Yin redirected everyone’s attention back to the "Fade to Light" offline experience hall.
Soon, the group made their way down the dark corridor, one after another.
At first, nobody understood the meaning of this corridor.
But as the large screens on either side suddenly lit up displaying the game’s opening graphics,
that feeling of being there immersed everyone instantly.
The corridor’s sides featured ultra-high-definition liquid crystal displays, and to ensure an even more three-dimensional effect wherever one looked,
5D curved screens of the same grade as Disney’s "Pirates of the Caribbean ship" were utilized.
At this moment, the group appeared as if standing atop a skyscraper,
with city buildings on both sides and the lifelike sound effects of helicopters circling overhead.
The narration slowly began to play.
Guided by the narration, the group roughly grasped the start of the game.
The story unfolded on a parallel world named Earth, the water-blue planet where a terrible disaster had erupted across the sea in the USA.
In a city named Harlan, the spread of a zombie virus turned the entire place into a hellish no-man’s-land within just one month.
To prevent the virus from spreading beyond, the USA swiftly erected high walls to isolate Harlan completely and attempted to use nuclear weapons to destroy the city, aiming to eradicate both survivors and zombies within this ’nest of infection.’
Visitors took on the role of Kyle Crane, a special forces soldier with the Global Relief Effort (GRE).
He was dispatched to Harlan to find a research report on a cure before the nuclear bomb could obliterate the city.
But during the airdrop into Harlan, his landing point tragically fell within a gang’s lair.
This gang, led by Rais, had lost all hope of leaving the city due to the isolation and thus held onto the research results of the cure, negotiating with the government for passage out in exchange for the report.
During the duration of the negotiation, the outside world would occasionally airdrop some antiviral suppressants and supplies.
However, over ninety percent would be monopolized by the gang.
Facing a city long bereft of law and humanity, the gangs’ methods became numb and ruthless, sometimes even more terrifying than the zombies.
The protagonist Crane, played by the visitors, upon falling into the gang’s hideout, shoots in a moment of life-and-death desperation.
The gunfire alerted the nearby zombie horde, prompting the gang to retreat.
Crane then faced swathes of zombies, on his own and overwhelmed, was unwittingly bitten.
At this critical moment, he encountered two members of another faction—a man and a woman who didn’t realize Crane was airdropped special forces, mistaking him for a city survivor.
In a desperate attempt to save Crane, the man accidentally sacrificed himself, leaving only the woman named Jade, who led Crane to their faction’s gathering place—The Tower.
Originally an under-construction building, The Tower now was somewhat safer due to its height, which blocked zombies from invading from the outside. As long as the main entrance on the ground floor was blocked, the Tower was relatively secure.
