Chapter 512: Chapter 169: Are you sure this is a game for kids? How come I, an adult, am having so much fun playing it?_3

At least in terms of functionality, this handheld console is way cooler than the red and white one I played with as a kid.

The controller can be detached, and it even has Sensory Mode.

It can also connect directly to the TV.

A wave of technology and user-friendliness hits me.

"At least the 2599 spent is more worth it than buying makeup," I said to myself.

Quickly inserting the "Odyssey" cartridge as per the instructions.

I found the button to detach the controller.

Separated the main screen of the Switch from the controller.

After connecting it to the TV, the game screen of "Odyssey" officially came to life.

The game starts with a flying ship.

A villain named Cool Tyrant, who resembles a dinosaur but carries a turtle shell on his back, kidnaps Mario’s sweetheart, Princess Peach.

After taunting with a few words, he flings Mario away and flies off with the princess in his ship.

When Mario wakes up, he finds himself in Hat Kingdom.

The inhabitants are all little white floating ghosts, with a cutesy art style, uniformly wearing black top hats.

Even the buildings’ rooftops had top hats matching the style of the ghosts.

Soon, a white-hatted ghost floats up, introducing himself as Kepi and explains that after Cool Tyrant kidnapped Princess Peach to hold a grand wedding ceremony, he flew to countries around the world in his flying ship, planning to plunder the treasures unique to each nation to decorate the wedding venue.

The first stop was Hat Country, where he kidnapped Kepi’s sister—also a hat ghost—and turned her into the crown atop the princess’s head.

Next, Cool Tyrant was on his quest for the wedding ring, wedding cake, wedding tuxedo, and other props for the ceremony.

Kepi expressed his hope to team up with Mario to catch up with the ship and rescue both the princess and his sister before the wedding takes place.

But for now, Cool Tyrant’s minions are still occupying the tallest castle in Hat Country.

To find a ship capable of pursuit in Waterfall Country, one must first defeat Cool Tyrant’s subordinates.

With that, the brief plot introduction ends, and the camera zooms in on a tall, cylindrical castle nearby, suggesting that the player’s next destination is there, to begin the first Chapter.

"Honestly... this storyline is just the right amount of childish," Ma Yang murmured to himself.

Simple, clear.

In just two minutes, it made clear who the enemy is, what the main quest is, and what the motives are.

After all, if it were too complicated, kids wouldn’t understand it either.

And it was this simplicity that allowed Ma Yang to understand without much thought.

I came to play a children’s game, isn’t it just to zone out, to relieve some stress?

Soon, Kepi transformed into Mario’s red cap, also becoming Mario’s only means of long-range attack.

The controls are so simple they’re practically self-explanatory.

Beyond the directional joystick.

There are just two actions.

One is to jump.

The other is to throw the hat.

And that’s it.

At least for now, the tutorial hasn’t introduced anything more.

What surprised Ma Yang a little, though,

was that after learning to throw the hat, what reinforced this memory wasn’t enemies.

It was a short pillar sticking out of the ground like a carrot...

Yes, the screen is now prompting me to "try throwing your hat for an attack."

Following the tutorial,

I flung my red cap, and after spinning rapidly in midair, it snugly fitted onto the top of the pillar.

With a ’pop,’ the pillar was plucked from the ground, turning into a puff of white mist and disappearing.

From the hole in the ground, Gold Coins started popping out one after another, without end.

For some reason, a hint of satisfaction flickered across Ma Yang’s heart.

Since gold is associated with being expensive,

even seeing gold-colored Gold Coins in a game, picking them up still makes you feel like you’ve ’earned something.’

After uprooting the first pillar, the tutorial temporarily ended.

But as Ma Yang looked ahead,

he noticed a few more pillars stuck straight into the ground.

Without hesitation, I controlled Mario to move forward, flinging the hat to uproot them one by one.

Gold Coins spilled out like a fountain.

I hurried to collect them.

After completing this series of actions,

Ma Yang spotted some wooden boxes not far off.

This time, there was no system prompt,

but I still instinctively ran to the side of the wooden boxes and threw the hat.

As expected, they, too, could be broken.

And they hid Gold Coins inside.

Collecting Gold Coins all the way, half a minute later, Ma Yang suddenly noticed several posters related to Cool Tyrant on the nearby building wall.

It had a bit of a ’been there, done that’ vibe.

But that wasn’t the point.

The point was,

Ma Yang, with sharp eyes, noticed a glimmer of a Gold Coin shining through a gap in the fluttering poster.

I quickly went over and threw the hat to shred the poster.

And sure enough!

Hidden behind the poster-covered wall was a small, square recess, like a secret passage, just big enough for the not-so-tall Mario to enter.

And inside it was piled high with Gold Coins! As tall as Mario himself, the visual impact was quite strong.

"Ha, it’s still got to be me! Anyone else might not have found it," I gleefully picked up the Gold Coins.

Although there were only about a dozen in total, and I didn’t even know what they were for,

Ma Yang just inexplicably felt joyful.

Ma Yang thought for a moment.
