Chapter 968: 698 Business
"Why did you come back alone?"
The man returned to his seat, eliciting teasing from a friend.
The man scrambled for words, then finally chuckled with a hint of sigh, "She’s a bit out of my league."
A friend patted his shoulder, unconcerned, offering consolation, "Maybe she’s just not into your type, drink up."
Indeed.
Success and failure in such matters are common.
Even with RMB, there are those who treat money like dirt.
Only the naïve would dwell on these insignificant trifles.
The man had no real hang-ups, but the uniqueness of Shi Qianxi still made him involuntarily keep glancing her way after sitting down.
"Sister Qianqian, long time no see!"
The patrons of GoD were growing in numbers, including high-status young masters from East Sea.
People began recognizing Shi Qianxi and respectfully went up to toast.
"Damn, that looks like Ding Xiaojing, the Crown Prince of Sinyi Photovoltaic. Who on earth is that beauty?"
Hearing the astonished voice of his friend, the man whose flirtation had flopped and who had wagered on a bet felt a growing stir of emotions and couldn’t help looking again at that Richard Mille, whose authenticity was hard to discern.
Out of the Jianghu.
But the legends persist.
Facing a succession of young masters coming up to toast, Shi Qianxi didn’t even lift her glass, except for the very few she was somewhat familiar with.
Finally.
Jiang Chen arrived late at the bar, moving through the bustling crowd straight to the bar counter.
Soon.
He saw that slender yet strong figure and immediately walked over,
"Want a drink?"
Shi Qianxi didn’t turn her head but seemed to know who had come to her side.
Jiang Chen didn’t react, simply asking the bartender for, "A cup of tea."
Shi Qianxi chuckled dryly, turned her head, resting her elbow on the bar and her chin in her hand, "Who comes to a bar to drink tea?"
Jiang Chen ignored the comment.
The bartender handed over a cup of tea.
"Thank you."
Jiang Chen took it.
Shi Qianxi didn’t mind and clinked her glass with his tea on the counter.
"To our past."
Then she tipped her head back and downed it in one gulp.
"Another glass."
She pushed the empty glass to the bartender.
"I won’t be responsible for taking you home if you get drunk," Jiang Chen said without compassion.
Shi Qianxi scoffed with a smile, "Who asked you to take me home? Plenty of people would beg to be my driver."
Jiang Chen said nothing, tasting the bar’s tea.
Shi Qianxi sighed deeply, murmuring as if puzzled, "Why are you so caring and devoted to others, yet always so heartless to me?"
Jiang Chen didn’t ask how she knew, responding calmly and coolly, "It’s a different situation."
Shi Qianxi rested her chin on one hand, "What if I were the one sick..."
"Do you have a sickness?"
Jiang Chen cut in sharply, his tone harsh, "Is this something to joke about?"
Shi Qianxi wasn’t scolded into anger; instead, she smiled teasingly.
"Can’t I make a joke?"
"Not everything is a joke. If it really came to that, you wouldn’t even be able to cry."
"I obviously wouldn’t cry. With you by my side, why would I?"
Any other person wouldn’t say such crazy things, but given her personality, it might not be nonsense – it could be heartfelt.
"If I fell sick like that, would you stay with me through thick and thin?"
Maybe it was because she had drunk quite a bit that her eyes seemed blurry, but her expression was very serious.
"No."
Jiang Chen’s reply was definitive, then he added, "Misfortunes last a thousand years; you won’t get the chance to fall ill like that."
Shi Qianxi laughed, "You really have a way with unflattering words."
Jiang Chen silently drank, not liquor, tea.
Shi Qianxi, watching him with her cheek propped up, thought she must really be sick.
This guy was never sweet to her and yet, she could never be mad at him; instead, she felt increasingly captivated.
"Ah."
Shi Qianxi sighed again, picking up her glass.
"This has nothing to do with you, don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong."
Shi Qianxi smiled, "How about you? Aren’t you sticking your nose in others’ business too?"
"I went to school with her; I couldn’t just watch her die."
"Mhm, I understand."
Shi Qianxi nodded nonchalantly.
Jiang Chen watched her.
Anyone else and it might have been fine, but the more reasonable she seemed, the more he felt it was out of the ordinary.
"Are you worried I’ll go bother her?"
Shi Qianxi asked with a laugh, holding her glass.
Jiang Chen remained silent.
"How about this, you pick up the tab, and I won’t bother her."
Bother.
Her choice of words was quite accurate.
Jiang Chen almost couldn’t help but laugh, staying silent for a moment, "You keep your word?"
"Of course."
"Alright."
Jiang Chen readily agreed.
"I’m not just talking about for myself."
Shi Qianxi clarified, "I mean you picking up the tab for the entire place."
Jiang Chen frowned, silently looking at her.
Shi Qianxi met his gaze without flinching.
"Surely this place isn’t selling fake alcohol."
Shi Qianxi smiled warmly, "If you want to protect her, there has to be a price to pay. Either you buy up this whole place, or, when I wake up tomorrow, I’ll go to the hospital to have a heart-to-heart with your ex, Ai Qian, right?"
Jiang Chen frowned, his expression shifting slightly.
"Can you stop making a scene?"
Shi Qianxi turned back to her drink, "You know what I’m like."
