Chapter 956: 691 Wishing peace
The concert came to a close.
Tens of thousands of audience members, still longing for more, exited the venue.
Traffic police remained dedicated to their duties, maintaining order around the venue.
"Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Outside the venue.
Ai Qian parted ways with a young man seated next to her, who seemed troubled by emotion, or perhaps, had not yet recovered from heartbreak.
Like everyone else at the concert, they had met by chance, parted indifferently, and returned to their own lives.
Walking alone, Ai Qian suddenly felt a dizzy spell; she staggered, groping for a streetlight to steady herself.
The dizziness didn’t subside, instead growing worse, accompanied by surged pain like tidal waves and a sensation of needles piercing her joints. Her vision began to blur.
Passersby became hazy apparitions.
Leaning on the streetlight, Ai Qian slowly crouched down and tried to regulate her breathing.
She had almost grown accustomed to this feeling; it had clung to her like a parasite, shadowing her every move. There was nothing to do but endure.
Supporting herself with one hand on the streetlight and the other clenched tightly, Ai Qian closed her eyes. The pain was so intense it drained the color from her face and squeezed wrinkles into the corners of her eyes while cold sweat broke out from her temples.
The pain seemed to last longer this time, around three or four minutes, before her complexion gradually eased and she exhaled laboriously.
She opened her eyes and did not immediately rise. Instead, she stayed crouched on the ground, enduring waves of pain and regaining her strength, then fumbled for her phone.
Originally, she had planned to stay in Chang’an for a few days, but after being randomly chosen to go on stage, she knew she had to leave for somewhere else.
Wei Chuyin must be looking for her.
Ai Qian turned on her phone.
A voice came from above her.
"Where are you headed next?"
Her mind went blank.
Wrong.
It had to be an illusion.
Ai Qian did not look up, attributing her auditory hallucination to the surreal experiences of the day which had left her emotions unsettled. She continued to open the ticketing app.
But then.
She stiffened.
She distinctly felt someone standing next to her.
The surroundings were still bustling.
Tens of thousands of spectators dispersed in different directions.
Under the glow of the streetlight.
Crouching on the ground, Ai Qian slowly looked up and saw a face that was partly shadowed.
Her expression froze.
Time seemed to stop.
The young man who should not have been there extended his hand.
"Painkillers; they should help quite a bit."
Looking at the water and pills in his hand, Ai Qian’s lips twitched in an attempt to smile, but she couldn’t quite manage it.
Then.
Struggling to her feet, she forced herself to act as if nothing was wrong.
"Did you also come to watch the Mayday concert?"
What a strange coincidence.
Jiang Chen remained silent, his arm still extended, motionless.
"I’m fine."
Ai Qian finally showed a faint smile.
"The medicine shouldn’t taste bitter; no need to make it hard on yourself."
"Why force someone to take medicine, are you crazy!"
Ai Qian teased, laughing.
Jiang Chen watched her silently.
As she laughed, the smile gradually faded from Ai Qian’s face.
"She promised me she wouldn’t gossip. I thought she would keep her word this time."
Other than Wei Chuyin, no one else knew.
"You also promised to find her, seems like you also broke your promise."
Ai Qian gave a self-deprecating smile: "Yeah, we really are alike."
He didn’t respond, and Jiang Chen didn’t insist further, lowering his hand.
"How did you know I was here?"
How could such coincidences happen in this world?
Even if it did happen, such luck should not fall on her.
Ai Qian suddenly understood why she had been chosen to go on stage earlier.
"Ever watched TV? The first thing a fugitive does is make a fake ID."
"You’re the fugitive!"
Ai Qian couldn’t help but laugh.
Yes.
He was no longer that ordinary boy; finding a needle in a haystack was only hard for ordinary people.
"You still have the energy to attend concerts, really irresponsible."
Ai Qian seemed to chide, but Jiang Chen could hear the double meaning in her words.
"I always wanted to go but never had the chance, so I fulfilled a past wish."
"Is that so? I thought you just wanted..."
Ai Qian abruptly stopped, nearly letting it slip.
She had intended to say that the boy from the past wanted to go to the concert just to accompany her.
"Let’s go."
Jiang Chen didn’t mind her sudden silence.
"Where?"
Ai Qian asked subconsciously.
"Wei Chuyin is still waiting for you in East Sea."
"Tell her to live her own life well, she doesn’t need to meddle."
"You’ve always been best friends."
Jiang Chen had a right to speak on this matter.
"Have you never heard the saying that there is no true friendship between women?" Ai Qian tried to smile charmingly but couldn’t hide the paleness of her face.
"You should know, it took a lot of courage for her to come find me."
Jiang Chen replied.
Ai Qian fell silent.
Perhaps they were just ordinary people.
But being ordinary doesn’t mean lacking integrity.
Especially since Wei Chuyin had once belittled him.
Now turning around to ask for help, how much determination that must have required.
Ai Qian pursed her lips, uncontrollably clenching her hand.
"Do you know, if I go back, I’ll only hold her back."
"Maybe she doesn’t mind."
