Chapter 864: 633 Features (½)

"Chief, we’ve found them."

Haojiang Police Station.

After entering the office, the head of the Major Crimes Unit didn’t forget to close the door before swiftly walking to the desk and placing the documents on it.

"It was these two people; after the Yanbian Killer enter Haojiang, he had contact with them."

The station chief’s brows furrowed as he picked up the documents, examining them, "Where are they now? Are they under surveillance?"

The head of the Major Crimes Unit shook his head, "After the incident at the Mandarin Oriental, they left Haojiang the next day. It’s too much of a coincidence. This case is very likely related to them, probably about eight or nine out of ten. They might be fugitives."

According to protocol, it was time to issue a warrant for their arrest.

But the head of the Major Crimes Unit didn’t do so, and neither did the chief in charge of Haojiang’s public security.

"Are there only these two people?"

The chief looked at the photos in the documents.

The head of the Major Crimes Unit hesitated before replying, "We’ve investigated the backgrounds of these two people and found that they came to Haojiang on a private plane with the son of the Guo family."

"Do you mean Guo Anle?"

The chief looked up.

"Mm."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit nodded gravely and then asked, "Chief, what should we do now?"

The chief’s frown deepened.

Even though he had been mentally prepared for the complexity of the case, he still couldn’t help feeling a headache now that they had stumbled upon a lead.

"The Guo clan is a distinguished family; they shouldn’t be involved in such things."

"I think so too."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit said, "Chief, I think the man called Geng Long who is with Guo Anle, has a major suspect. He was originally a big brother in the underworld of Jiangnan in the inland."

Geng Long.

The chief stayed silent.

The head of the Major Crimes Unit didn’t dare to speak out of turn, remaining silent while standing in front of the desk.

"Is Geng Long still in Haojiang?"

After about ten seconds, the chief spoke up.

"He is. He doesn’t show any signs of being a fugitive."

"You leave first and do not act without my orders."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit nodded immediately and then turned to leave.

After he left, the chief took a deep breath, then grabbed the black phone on the desk and dialed a number.

Given the importance of the matter, he couldn’t make decisions on his own; he had to report to someone.

As soon as the phone connected, this commander of Haojiang’s security forces adjusted his tone, respectfully saying, "He Shou, this is Ren Jinming. Regarding the case at the Mandarin Oriental, we’ve discovered some clues, and I’d like to report to you."

Before he could explain the details, the voice on the other end said, "Handling the case is your job; there’s no need to report to me. Just conduct it impartially. Remember your responsibilities: let no criminal escape, but don’t wrong an innocent person."

That righteous declaration blocked all the words Chief Ren was about to say in his throat.

"He Shou, I understand."

"Jinming, I’ve always been confident in your abilities. Do well."

The call was disconnected.

Chief Ren slowly put down the receiver.

When you are in the bureaucratic field, and the higher-ups do not wish to muddy the waters, one must be prepared to lead the charge.

Moreover.

There was no other choice.

Chief Ren silently lit a cigarette, smoked only half of it, and then snuffed it out on the ground, standing up to leave the office.

"Chief."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit, who was talking with a subordinate, stood at attention.

"Where is Geng Long now?"

"At Xinghao."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit asked, "Should we bring him in for questioning?"

"No, you’ll come with me instead. Let’s go personally."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit was taken aback, then quickly understood, gathered several people, and accompanied the chief to drive to the Xinghao Hotel.

"He’s in room 3325."

The head of the Major Crimes Unit was well prepared.

However, Chief Ren did not go straight to Geng Long, nor did he pay a visit to the son of the Guo family, but instead, walked into a room with a man wearing glasses.

"Mr. Song, sorry to disturb you."

"Please, have a seat," said the man, welcoming their arrival.

Although he didn’t know this man, the head of the Major Crimes Unit could judge from the chief’s demeanor that he was no ordinary person, so he politely sat down with the chief.

"This is our police station’s pillar, the head of the Major Crimes Unit Guan Hu. He has led the investigation of countless cases. The stability Haojiang enjoys today is largely thanks to him."

With Ren Jinming’s introduction, Song Chaoge nodded to the head of the Major Crimes Unit, Guan Hu, with polite and friendly smile, "It’s an honor to meet you, Chief Guan."

Guan Hu quickly returned the smile, though without showing off – one must never outshine the leader in their presence.

"Chief Ren, you must have something important to discuss if you’re here. Is there anything I can help with?"

Song Chaoge, evidently a perceptive man, took the initiative to speak honestly and openly, "If it’s within my power, I won’t hesitate to help."

Ren Jinming smiled, "Have you heard about the case at the Mandarin Oriental?" He maintained a congenial tone, despite his high level of authority in Haojiang, which would usually afford him respect from even influential figures like Yu Guangrong. Within this room, however, he did not demonstrate any such power.

Song Chaoge nodded, "I didn’t expect such a cruel and crazed madman to exist today. What, did you find something?"

"We’ve come across some leads."

Ren Jinming paused, "I wonder if your friend Geng Long is available?"

Song Chaoge understood immediately, "Are you looking for him?"

Ren Jinming nodded, "There are some matters we’d like to ask him about if it’s convenient..."

"He should be at the hotel now, I’ll call him over."

Song Chaoge was very straightforward, pulling out his phone before Ren Jinming could finish speaking.

"Come over here."

After the call, Song Chaoge said, "Chief Ren, please wait a moment; he’ll be here shortly."

Ren Jinming nodded with a smile.

A few minutes later, the doorbell rang.

"Open the door," Guan Hu instructed.

An accompanying officer immediately went to the door.

The door opened.

Geng Long stepped in, unfazed by the number of people present.

"This is Chief Ren, he has some questions for you about the case at the Mandarin Oriental," said Song Chaoge.

Ren Jinming looked at Guan Hu.

Understanding the cue, Guan Hu stood and said, "Mr. Geng, if it’s convenient, please accompany us back."

Song Chaoge remained seated, calm and tranquil.

Without any objections, Geng Long nodded cooperatively, "No problem."

Amidst the silence, Ren Jinming stood up, "Mr. Song, then we won’t bother you any longer."

"Please, I’ll visit Chief Ren another day," they shook hands in a friendly manner.

"Cooperate with Chief Ren, and tell him whatever you know."

Song Chaoge advised Geng Long.

Geng Long nodded.

"Let’s go."

Ren Jinming led the way out.

"Mr. Geng, after you," offered Guan Hu with a gesture.

After Geng Long walked ahead, Guan Hu looked back at Song Chaoge.

Song Chaoge removed his glasses, nodded with a smile.

Guan Hu also nodded politely in return and quickly left the room.

"Click."

The door closed.

Song Chaoge, left alone, fiddled slowly with his glasses.
