Chapter 804: 601 Thank you

"Knock, knock, knock..."

The sound of knocking at the door rose.

Ai Qian turned off the stove, served the dishes onto the table, removed her apron, wiped her hands, and walked to the door to open it.

"You really have a nose like a dog, arriving just at the right time. I’ve just finished cooking. Haven’t eaten yet, have you?"

Wei Chuyin walked in. "I called you just now, why didn’t you answer?"

Having rested outside the apartment complex for over ten minutes until the pain subsided, Ai Qian replied with surprise, "You called me? Maybe I didn’t hear because it was on silent. Let’s eat."

Wei Chuyin sat down at the table.

Once a culinary novice, Ai Qian dished up the rice.

"Guess who I saw today?" Wei Chuyin took the bowl.

"Who?"

Ai Qian asked absentmindedly, looking a bit tired, perhaps due to just having cooked.

Wei Chuyin was about to speak when suddenly there was the vibration of a phone.

Ai Qian stood up and walked to the open kitchen, picking up the mobile phone that was on the stove.

"Mom."

Wei Chuyin picked up her chopsticks to eat.

After about three or four minutes, Ai Qian finished the call and came back to sit down. "I was supposed to go back home for Mid-Autumn Festival, but last-minute news came that I have to work overtime."

In the ivory tower, everyone thinks they are the Heavenly Pride, haughty and self-important. But when you step into society, you realize how harsh reality can be.

No matter how beautiful you are, the moment you enter a big company, you instantly become ordinary, just a small, insignificant screw in a machine.

Ai Qian hadn’t failed to struggle, but the woman supervisor in her forties had given her just one sentence, "If you don’t want to do overtime, then go back and write your resignation."

So-called pride, under the pressure of survival, is worthless.

"Why don’t you move in with me?" Wei Chuyin suggested. "My bed isn’t big, but we can squeeze in."

Just starting to work, the salary isn’t too high, barely managing to cross the ten thousand mark, but in the glitzy East Sea, this income really isn’t much.

Like this apartment, only thirty or forty square meters, yet the rent is four to five thousand.

At least by squeezing in with her, you could save on rent.

"No need," Ai Qian refused, as always.

"Are you still holding a grudge against me?"

Wei Chuyin whispered softly.

Ai Qian laughed suddenly, "What are you talking about? Why would I harbor any grudge against you? I just think since it’s a dormitory assigned by your company, if I moved in, you might not mind, but if people from your company found out, who knows if they wouldn’t gossip."

The workplace is far more vicious than school.

Colleagues are not comparable to classmates.

"Plus, I feel quite good living alone; it’s relaxing, comfortable. Even though my income is not high right now, I can still afford the rent."

"Of course, I know you can afford it."

Wei Chuyin also smiled, joking, "But don’t you think you’re being too extravagant? Who rents their own place right after graduation? Everyone else shares."

"Why should I make myself uncomfortable?"

Ai Qian went along with the joke. "Sharing a place with others comes with many hassles, especially with people you are completely unfamiliar with. I’ve had enough of that during four years of university."

Wei Chuyin simply smiled without speaking.

"By the way, Shao Shuhuai may ask you out for dinner next weekend. Think of an excuse to turn him down," Ai Qian said, picking up her chopsticks.

"What do you mean?" Wei Chuyin was puzzled.

"He was the one who gave me a ride back just now."

Wei Chuyin got the hint and probed, "Did he ask you out again?"

Ai Qian nodded.

"Ai Qian, are you really not the least bit interested in him?"

"I’ve said it before; I’m not considering a relationship right now. And he’s not my type."

"Then you can just turn him down directly. There’s no need to lead him on."

Ai Qian glanced at Wei Chuyin, didn’t speak, and silently bowed her head to eat.

"Are you worried that if you turn him down, it’ll make it hard for me?"

Having been classmates for four years, although not completely knowing each other inside out, most of the time, they could guess what the other was thinking.

"Ai Qian, you don’t need to worry about me. If you’re completely uninterested in him, just be clear with him."

Wei Chuyin said earnestly, "He’s not my direct superior; he can’t control me. And if worst comes to worst, I’ll just pack up and leave. Do you think if I leave Hamolei, I wouldn’t be able to find another job?"

"I never said that. I definitely know you’re very capable."

Ai Qian smiled. "It’s just that Hamolei indeed offers great benefits, a perk of the gaming company. Leaving it, you might indeed find it hard to get an equivalent job."

"So what?"

Wei Chuyin said immediately, "I am not the kind of person who sells out friends for personal gain."

"What are you talking about!"

Ai Qian shook her head, smiling, and took a sip of water, "Right, who did you say you saw today?"

"Do you really want to know?"

Wei Chuyin looked at her.

"Who?" Ai Qian laughed inexplicably, "You’re being all mysterious."

Wei Chuyin paused.

"It was Jiang Chen."

Ai Qian’s smile stiffened slightly and then returned to normal, feigning a nonchalant surprise.

"Where did you run into him?"

"It wasn’t like that."

Wei Chuyin shook her head. "East Sea is so big, and with millions of people, I don’t have the fate to encounter him in a sea of faces. He came looking for me."

"He came looking for you?"

Ai Qian was taken aback and then her gaze flickered as she gripped her chopsticks, "...What did he want?"

Wei Chuyin let out a breath. "There’s something I haven’t told you. The virtual love game, you know about it, right?"

Ai Qian nodded.

"Our company is considering suing that game for plagiarizing our ideas."
