Chapter 705: Play a game

As the saying goes, "Gold and stones will open, all matters require persistence."

Patience is key in everything.

By the side of a tranquil river, after countless empty-handed attempts, Jiang Chen, who originally knew nothing about fishing, finally made a catch. Bubbles frothed in the fish trap beneath the water’s surface.

"Swish!"

He yanked the fishing rod upward.

Another white-striped fish leaped out of the water.

The corners of Jiang Chen’s lips curled slightly as he skillfully reeled back the rod, unhooking the fiercely wriggling white-striped fish and placing it into the basket.

He was no member of any animal protection society; these fish were destined to become delicacies on the dining table.

"Mr. Jiang seems to be enjoying himself."

A car approached.

An Zairong got out of the vehicle with a beaming smile that revealed no sign of fatigue from travel.

"Just killing time," said Jiang Chen, laying down his fishing rod.

An Zairong, with his astute observational skills, quickly noticed the bandaged left hand of the other man and expressed his concern, "Mr. Jiang, I hope it’s nothing serious?"

Jiang Chen shook his head, "It’s just a minor injury, nothing to worry about."

"That’s a relief," An Zairong sighed.

The atmosphere was quite friendly.

Jiang Chen stood up from the small stool, turned around, and sized up An Zairong from head to toe.

"You’re not injured, Mr. An?"

"No."

An Zairong smiled brightly, casting a glance at the silent Dwayne standing beside him.

"Mr. Jiang’s men are quite formidable, with impeccable marksmanship, never missing their target. Seeing them in action was truly eye-opening. Had they not arrived in time, I might have already been arrested by the prosecutor’s office. Thank you, Mr. Jiang."

"It’s only right. After all, Mr. An, you have helped me before," Jiang Chen replied.

The two exchanged smiles, each with intriguing depth.

"This is a nice place. The mountains are scenic, and the water is clear," An Zairong commented, gazing towards the distant mist-shrouded mountains as if on a casual visit.

Jiang Chen also looked toward the distance.

"If Mr. An fancies this place, he’s welcome to stay for a few days," Jiang Chen offered.

An Zairong smiled at the unexpected invitation, "If Mr. Jiang doesn’t mind the disturbance, I would be more than happy to stay."

"Not at all. I’m quite lonely here by myself. Mr. An would make for good company to chat with," Jiang Chen turned his head to look at him, his smile serene.

It seemed the world had indeed been underestimated.

An Zairong’s smile remained unchanged, but inwardly, he was full of lament.

He knew this young man was no ordinary person. Even if he didn’t know the details, the way Lan Peizhi treated him offered a glimpse into his notability.

Not every man could catch the eye of that woman.

Even someone like himself, who had worked tirelessly and risked his life, was ultimately nothing more than a tool for her use.

"Alone? Isn’t Cui Zaiye here?" An Zairong didn’t beat about the bush, addressing the elephant in the room directly.

Jiang Chen shook his head, "He just visited."

Brevity sufficed.

An Zairong chuckled.

"Did Mr. Jiang deal with him?"

"No, I simply invited him for a chat," answered Jiang Chen.

An Zairong turned his head to look at the young man’s profile.

In fact, from the moment he received the call that Cui Zaiye had gone missing, he had a premonition.

Cui Zaiye was extremely cautious and careful. Catching him was no easy feat.

That’s why after the call, he chose to go downstairs brazenly.

His conversation with Che Changmin had been sincere.

An Zairong genuinely hoped to sit down and have a "heart-to-heart" with the other party. Sometimes, falling into the hands of prosecutors was preferable to falling into someone else’s.

Regrettably, human plans cannot contend with fate’s design.

He had not anticipated that such a young man could be so fierce!

It wasn’t out of arrogance or exaggeration. In Korea, when it came to cruelty and madness, he was not the first yet surely among the foremost.

But he had indeed not expected this seemingly harmless young man from Shenzhou to surpass him in extremes!

Bartley.

Anti-tank rockets.

Assault rifles.

Was this city warfare?!

The previous "eye-opener" was indeed no courtesy.

An Zairong, who had endured countless brutal fights, remained stupefied below the apartment building not just due to a life-saving instinct but because he was truly dumbfounded.

Compared to their previous gang fights, this was a completely different level of combat.

"It seems Cui Zaiye had a lot to say that Mr. Jiang wanted to hear."

"He revealed some things, but not everything. That’s why I especially invited Mr. An over, hoping you could clear up my confusion," said Jiang Chen.

"Haha, Mr. Jiang is too polite. Feel free to ask anything. I’ll certainly tell you all I know," An Zairong responded readily, pausing for a moment.

"However, there’s something I’d like to ask Mr. Jiang as well."

"Please feel free to ask, Mr. An," Jiang Chen encouraged.

An Zairong looked towards Dwayne.

"Are these friends military professionals?"

Dwayne remained expressionless.

Jiang Chen shook his head, "They’re not."

An Zairong nodded, wisely not probing further.

The quality of their combat, their cold-bloodedness.

If they were not military professionals, then only one possibility remained.

For money, willing to stop at nothing—mercenaries.

"Does Mr. An have any more questions?"

"No."

An Zairong was composed. "Mr. Jiang can ask his questions now."

Jiang Chen gazed at the serene distant mountains.

"Why did Mr. An betray Miss Lan?"

An Zairong let out a wry smile, neither surprised nor defensive.

"What does Mr. Jiang think?" he retorted, openly accepting the fact that he had betrayed Lan Peizhi.

They were both smart men.

Moreover, things had reached such a stage, there was no need for pretense.

"I’d like to hear Mr. An’s thoughts," said Jiang Chen calmly.

An Zairong released a breath toward the peaceful lake, then shrugged nonchalantly.
