Chapter 659: 532 Fengyun
"What’s the matter? Doesn’t suit your taste?"
The next day.
Sheraton Hotel.
The restaurant.
Shi Qianxi put down her chopsticks.
Jiang Chen, who seemed to have lost his appetite, shook his head. After a moment’s hesitation, he quietly probed, "I heard from Uncle Shi that Miss Lan has come to Korea?"
"Mm."
Shi Qianxi did not suspect anything, nodding her head, "She arrived two days before you."
"Where is she now?"
Shi Qianxi smiled, "Of course not with me. I wouldn’t dare stay with her. She’s not in Incheon, she’s in Seoul."
Even though she now controlled the power at Gimhae, Shi Qianxi still harbored some fear when it came to Lan Peizhi, fearless as she usually was.
Seoul.
Jiang Chen no longer cared about principles at this point and continued to probe, "What exactly is the problem? Why does Miss Lan need to come in person?"
Shi Qianxi played with the Korean-style fried noodles with her chopsticks, looking down as she said, "The problem is indeed serious. The Korean prosecutor’s office accuses her of smuggling, issuing high-interest loans, engaging in criminal activities..."
Jiang Chen raised an eyebrow.
Smuggling, high-interest loans, criminal activities.
One had to admit, these terms fitted Lan Peizhi’s persona all too well.
"Did Miss Lan really do those things?"
Shi Qianxi looked up, silent for a moment, then countered, "What do you think?"
Jiang Chen remained silent.
Shi Qianxi answered her own question, "Transnational trade inevitably involves some irregular channels; that’s an unspoken truth. But recently, several ships were intercepted, filled with undeclared luxury goods and cosmetics."
"What does that have to do with Gimhae?"
Shi Qianxi forced a smile and succinctly stated, "Those ships belong to Gimhae."
"..."
Jiang Chen was left speechless.
"Originally, this wouldn’t have been a difficult issue, using some money to smooth things over wasn’t hard, but the key problem is the Korean prosecutors followed the trail and began a thorough investigation of Miss Lan’s business in Korea..."
Having heard this, Jiang Chen had a clear understanding of the situation and asked directly, "Can it be resolved?"
Shi Qianxi shook her head.
"I don’t know. Now, Gimhae is also implicated, and the Korean prosecutors have begun to investigate our operations."
Worry crept into Shi Qianxi’s eyes and brows.
That’s how business is.
No one can guarantee they’re wholly clean.
Those successful entrepreneurs, which one of them dares to expose everything beneath them to the sunlight?
Just look at those celebrities.
Don’t they all think about tax evasion?
"Alright, these things don’t concern you. I’m already happy that you could come and keep me company," Shi Qianxi said sweetly, her expression suddenly softening as she seemed to become a little woman in love.
Jiang Chen coughed lightly, finding it difficult to look her in the eyes, and lowered his head to focus on his food.
As they ate calmly, a group of well-dressed men and women entered the restaurant with a commanding presence, shattering the tranquil atmosphere within.
They were all dressed in neat suits, with both men and women among them, arriving with clear intent, scanning the room before heading straight towards Shi Qianxi and Jiang Chen’s table.
Gao Zhengbi, dining at another table with two bodyguards, quickly stood up to block their way.
"Incheon Investigation Bureau. Please do not obstruct our official duties."
The leading man showed his badge.
Gao Zhengbi stood unmoved, confronting them with a cold glare.
"Let them come over."
Shi Qianxi spoke calmly.
At her words, Gao Zhengbi stepped aside.
"Miss Shi Qianxi?"
"What’s the matter?"
Shi Qianxi continued to eat, not even turning her head.
"We suspect you’re involved in several economic crime cases. Please come with us for an investigation."
Shi Qianxi’s demeanor was strong, while the other party maintained a poker face.
The atmosphere instantly filled with tension.
Jiang Chen kept quiet.
"Do you have any evidence?" Gao Zhengbi asked.
The investigators did not respond to him, just kept their eyes fixed on Shi Qianxi.
"Ms. Shi Qianxi, we hope you will cooperate."
Shi Qianxi remained unfazed, simply asking flatly, "Can you wait until I finish this meal?"
The investigators looked at the dining table and, though they said nothing more, did not urge her further, standing quietly by.
With so many eyes on her, no one’s appetite would last.
After a few bites, Shi Qianxi picked up a napkin, wiping her mouth.
"I’ll go for a while. Have Gao Zhengbi take you for a walk."
"I’ll go with you," Jiang Chen said calmly.
"No need," Shi Qianxi replied with a slight smile. "It’s not a nice place. I’ll be right back."
Jiang Chen said nothing more.
Shi Qianxi stood up and ordered, "Take Mr. Jiang out for a walk."
"Yes."
Shi Qianxi walked straight out.
The group from the Investigation Bureau followed closely behind her.
Jiang Chen watched them leave the restaurant.
One had to admit.
The lady had indeed matured a lot. Her composure just then held shades of Shi Zhenhua.
"Mr. Jiang, don’t worry, Director Shi won’t have any problems," Gao Zhengbi said.
Jiang Chen nodded.
Having spent so much time in Korea, Shi Qianxi knew what was at stake. Her easy departure with the investigators suggested she was quite certain of her position—no need for undue worry.
After finishing the meal, Gao Zhengbi drove Jiang Chen away from the hotel, acting as his guide.
"Mr. Jiang, this is Incheon’s largest commercial road, known as the ’Little Myeong-dong of Songdo.’"
"Let’s take a walk around."
The two of them got out of the car.
Even though it wasn’t the weekend, the business street was bustling with fashionably dressed people, reminding Jiang Chen of Chunxi Road back in Jin Guan.
