Chapter 615: 510 [Vote request!]_2
Ding He spoke softly, his words like priceless treasure.
"Mm."
Fang Qing gave a short response, just hoping the other person would leave quickly.
"Alright, then I’ll be going."
Ding He smiled as he said goodbye, turned, and walked towards the elevator. He had thought that his assistant would wait until he entered the elevator before going back to her room, but to his surprise, he heard the sound of the door closing behind him quite soon.
"Bang."
The sound echoed in the hallway.
The lawyer with a promising future paused for a moment, then continued towards the elevator and reached out to press the button.
"Jiang Chen, what on earth do you mean by that?!"
After closing the door and turning around, Fang Qing couldn’t hold back any longer.
The person wiping the table was puzzled.
"What did I do?"
"What were you babbling about just now? What do you mean by ’often comes’?"
Jiang Chen stood up straight, confused, "What’s wrong with that?"
"He’s just my boss, and other than work, I have no other relationship with him!"
To be honest, Fang Qing really didn’t expect that he would come to visit her in person.
"I didn’t say you had any other relationship with him,"
Jiang Chen laughed, "But your boss seems too enthusiastic about you, doesn’t he? Does he have feelings for you?"
After speaking, he even winked.
Fang Qing couldn’t take it anymore and bent down to take off her slipper and threw it at him.
Jiang Chen quickly dodged.
"Gentlemen use their mouths, not their fists, you’re a lawyer, and hitting people is against the law."
Fang Qing became even more infuriated and removed her other slipper to throw it at him.
Jiang Chen dodged it with agility once more.
Seemingly out of patience, the usually serene Fang Qing squatted down and sat directly on the ground.
Jiang Chen was startled, then couldn’t help but laugh and cry.
"You don’t need to do this, right? Your boss might not have left yet. Can you stop acting like a child?"
When they were children, every time Fang Qing was driven to exasperation by him and couldn’t get back at him, she would pull this stunt—a classic spoiled tactic.
Fang Qing remained silent, sitting on the ground, legs bent, arms wrapped around her knees, and head buried in her legs.
Jiang Chen felt helpless, knowing full well that if he went over, it wouldn’t end well for him. But that’s how people are, knowing full well there’s a pitfall ahead, they still leap into it with their eyes wide open.
Jiang Chen put down the rag, shook his hands, walked over, crouched down, and nudged her soft shoulders.
"Hey, I didn’t really say anything. You’re not crying already, are you?"
Fang Qing suddenly looked up, pushed him over onto the ground, and mounted him without a shred of elegance. Her movements were so fluid and skilled they were almost hard to believe as she grabbed his neck with both hands.
"I’m going to strangle you!"
Jiang Chen wasn’t surprised at all. He could easily have tossed her off, but instead, he lay on the cool ground without moving and even cooperated by saying in a strained voice, "I’m... I’m having trouble breathing..."
"Good, it would be best if you can’t breathe at all. I’ll die with you!"
Although her tone was fierce, those bare hands actually didn’t exert much force. After half a minute, Fang Qing heavily sat down on his abdomen with her bottom, then finally got up.
Jiang Chen cried out in pain, covering his stomach and feigning a retch, "I just had dinner too!"
"I knew it, I should’ve laced your food with poison and killed you!"
Fang Qing stood beside him, barefoot, not bothering to look for her slippers.
Jiang Chen lay on his back on the ground, weakly smiling with a touch of sorrow, "Women’s hearts are the most poisonous."
"I am poisonous, so what? Haven’t you always called me that since we were kids?"
Fang Qing seemed resigned to her fate. Anyway, there was no third person in the apartment at the time.
So yeah, never be deceived by a woman’s appearance; she might have many faces.
"Lying there comfortably, huh? Get up!"
Even though it’s midsummer, lying on the floor can easily catch a chill.
Jiang Chen obediently got up, still grimacing in mock pain.
Fang Qing didn’t kick him out but instead said, "Go clean up the table!"
Jiang Chen covered his belly, walked towards the desk like a person wronged, but instead of continuing to clean, he bent down and picked up the two slippers that had been thrown earlier.
"Put your shoes on."
Fang Qing watched him with a cold face.
Jiang Chen came over, bent down, and half squatted to slip the slippers back on her feet.
But just as he was about to get up and clean the table, Fang Qing kicked off her shoes again.
"Enough already! Stop throwing tantrums like a child."
"You can’t control me!"
Jiang Chen said helplessly, "Why can’t I control you? Your parents asked me to help take care of you."
"When did they tell you that?"
"Back when we were in school."
"What era is it now?"
Jiang Chen, unflustered and confident, "It’s still the same now."
He bent down again to pick up the slippers that had been kicked off and held them out, "Put them on."
"I won’t!"
Fang Qing, barefoot, walked towards the sofa.
"Be careful, or you really will catch a cold."
Fang Qing ignored him.
"Fang Qing, don’t think I’m actually afraid of you. I’ve always just indulged you since we were kids. If you keep on like this, I really will stop caring about you."
Fang Qing remained unmoved.
"Fine, I’m leaving."
Jiang Chen, feeling tough, turned and walked towards the door.
"Creak."
The door opened.
Fang Qing still sat on the sofa, motionless.
Jiang Chen pushed open the door, one foot stepping out, but still holding that pair of slippers in his hand.
There was no sound from behind.
Jiang Chen felt a bit awkward, stiff at the doorway, then turned around without dignity and closed the door again.
"Put on your shoes."
He returned to Fang Qing’s front.
Fang Qing didn’t utter a word.
Jiang Chen, with a straight face, squatted down, lifted her foot, and for the second time put the slippers on for her.
"Pfft."
Fang Qing could no longer hold it in.
"Laughing at what?!"
Fang Qing’s shoulders shook as she burst into laughter, collapsing onto the sofa.
"You’re still laughing, huh?"
Jiang Chen, half-squatting, looked up annoyedly.
"Aren’t you acting all tough? Go on, then. Walk away!"
"I..."
Jiang Chen wanted to talk tough, but after racking his brain he couldn’t find the words and ended up muttering reluctantly.
"Put someone else here, and see if I don’t walk away!"
Fang Qing, her face red with laughter, gently kicked his leg, "Go clean up the table."
"Do it yourself!"
Jiang Chen, seemingly furious, stood up.
"I’m tired."
Fang Qing’s tone unexpectedly carried a hint of a little girl’s coquetry.
Jiang Chen’s expression changed again and again, and in the end, he turned around silently and picked up the rag again.
Fang Qing leaned on the sofa, quietly watching, her gaze gradually becoming blurred.
After several minutes, Comrade Jiang Chen, like a coolie, had cleaned up the table spotlessly and went on to wash the dishes.
"I knew I shouldn’t have come."
"Why didn’t you leave just now?"
Fang Qing whispered, not knowing if she was asking Jiang Chen or whom.
Jiang Chen wiped his hands and poured himself a glass of water.
Truly self-sufficient.
"Look at you, your boss even said you work really hard."
Fang Qing, as if deaf, "I like it, none of your business."
"I take back what I said just now."
"What did you say?"
"You’re not the perfect partner at all."
Jiang Chen was dead serious.
Fang Qing was startled, then burst into laughter again, clutching her stomach, "Can you stop teasing me..."
"Tease you? As if!"
Jiang Chen finished his glass of water and tossed the disposable cup into the trash can.
"Just lie there then, I’m leaving."
"You’re really going?"
Jiang Chen waved his hand and turned to walk outside.
This time he really left.
The door opened and closed again.
Their parting didn’t need to be dramatic.
Fang Qing’s smile slowly faded, she stood up, rushed to the door, her hand on the doorknob, but in the end, she didn’t open it.
Her hand slowly dropped; she turned and briskly walked to the window.
Half a minute later,
Jiang Chen’s figure appeared below.
"Hey!"
Jiang Chen stopped in his tracks and looked back up.
Fang Qing stuck her head out, "Stay another night!"
Jiang Chen didn’t reply but took out his phone and gestured at her.
The silhouette slowly faded away.
"Ding-dong."
Fang Qing took out her phone.
"Can you keep it down? If someone hears, they’ll think you’re promiscuous. How are you going to date in the future?"
Fang Qing gritted her teeth.
"What dating? I’m going to become a nun in the future!"
"[Shocked emoji]"
Fang Qing typed quickly.
"And you better not think you’ll have it easy either, you’ll have to become a monk too!"
"[Thumbs up]"
Fang Qing looked up.
Under the night sky, that guy was left with only a hazy outline, the streetlight casting a long slanted shadow.
