Chapter 610: Afterward (8K!)

The next day.

Fang Qing opened her eyes, shielded the light coming through the window with her hand, and then sat up.

She had returned home.

Her high heels were neatly placed beside the bed.

Still wearing last night’s clothes, she threw off the covers and got out of bed.

It was an apartment, not large, one bedroom and one living room, at most fifty square meters. But you have to understand, this was in Capital City.

While many "Beijing Drifters" were still sharing flats or living in basements, having a small apartment to oneself was already considered a luxury.

Leaving the bedroom, Fang Qing found that there was no one in the apartment. However, the creases on the sofa indicated that someone had been lying there for a long time.

Fang Qing sat on the sofa, massaging her forehead.

Suddenly,

There was a sound from outside the apartment: the noise of keys opening the door.

She turned her head.

Someone pushed the door open and walked in.

"Awake?"

The person who had taken her keys closed the door as if nothing was amiss.

Fang Qing looked at him, then at the breakfast bag in his hand.

"Why haven’t you left?"

"I was planning to, but I put your keys in my pocket and forgot to give them back."

Jiang Chen placed the keys on the coffee table.

"Go brush your teeth."

Fang Qing glanced at him and stood up.

"Why aren’t you wearing shoes?"

Jiang Chen looked at her small feet, fair as cream.

Last night when Fang Qing came back, he only helped her remove her shoes and socks; as for anything else, even childhood sweethearts must avoid any impropriety.

Fang Qing ignored him, entered the bedroom to wash up, and emerged after fifteen minutes, changed into a different outfit. She was no longer in her business attire from the night before but now wore pencil pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and her long hair was simply clipped back. Her face was bare, giving her a crisp and efficient look.

"When did you wake up?"

Fang Qing confidently ate the beef noodles he brought back for her, sitting at the table.

It was the spicy flavor she liked, complete with scallions added.

"About eight o’clock, I guess."

"Why didn’t you wake me up?"

"Why should I have woken you up?"

"I’m late for work."

Though her job wasn’t as miserable as the 996 corporate grind, it was only Thursday, still a day away from the weekend.

"What does that have to do with me?"

Jiang Chen retorted with confidence.

Fang Qing put down her chopsticks and looked at him.

"I warned you last night; you can’t blame this on me."

Jiang Chen remained indifferent, showing no guilt.

Fang Qing pretended not to hear, "I just joined the law firm not long ago. Being absent without reason, do you know how bad that looks?"

"Then just quit."

Jiang Chen said carelessly.

"If I quit, are you going to support me?"

"It’s not impossible."

Jiang Chen muttered, seemingly in jest.

Fang Qing appeared to take it as a joke too and resumed eating her noodles.

"This apartment of yours is pretty nice, huh? It really makes a difference coming from a good school; your job must have decent benefits?"

Jiang Chen looked around.

For a recent graduate, being able to rent such a small yet exquisite apartment in Capital City was quite an accomplishment.

Last night, he had carried Fang Qing for quite a while, and it took some effort to get her address out of her. Thankfully, she wasn’t completely passed out; otherwise, they really would have had to stay in a hotel.

"At least I’m satisfied for now, but I don’t know if I’ll be allowed to stay any longer."

"Is it that serious? It’s just being late, right? You should’ve called your law firm earlier, shouldn’t you? If they give you a hard time over this, a company without a shred of humanity isn’t worth sticking with. Pack up and come to East Sea, I’ll take you in."

Jiang Chen seemed magnanimous, but his tone sounded teasing.

"What, you want revenge?"

Fang Qing looked up, her smile tinged with sarcasm and a trace of oil on her lips.

Jiang Chen handed her a tissue.

"No, am I that petty? But you do owe me for last night’s trouble. Do you know how far I had to walk?"

"I don’t know."

Fang Qing took the tissue and wiped her mouth, continuing to eat her noodles.

"Seriously, will you go to East Sea or not?"

Jiang Chen asked again.

Tianci Capital also needed a legal department, and Fang Qing was perfectly suited for the job.

"I won’t go."

Fang Qing answered without hesitation.

"Don’t regret it later."

Jiang Chen warned.

Fang Qing didn’t respond.

Seeing this, Jiang Chen didn’t say more and quietly sat to the side.

"Aren’t you leaving?"

Fang Qing truly lacked any semblance of being a gracious host.

"No rush."

Jiang Chen was leisurely and even turned on the TV with the remote, "Looking at you, so unhurried, you must have taken the day off from your law firm, right?"

"When did you get so smart?"

She had indeed requested a day off.

Just a moment earlier.

Actually, she could have still made it back to work.

"If you’re just now realizing that, it sounds like your problem. Too smart to be wise, ever heard of that?"

Fang Qing laughed.

"I really don’t know about that. All I know is, wisdom looks like folly."

Jiang Chen stopped talking, as if too lazy to argue with her.

Fang Qing finished her noodles, wiped her mouth, walked over, and sat next to him, "Do you really have nothing else to do?"

"What’s wrong? Does the hostess have any plans for me?"

Jiang Chen turned to her with a smile.

"If you’re really free, I suppose I could spend the day with you."

Fang Qing offered, albeit reluctantly.

Jiang Chen acted as if receiving great honor, "That would be a privilege."

Fang Qing gritted her teeth and reached for the slippers, about to smack him with them.

Jiang Chen caught her wrist, "Tell me, Fang Qing, do you understand how to treat guests at all? Is this how you treat visitors? And have you never washed your feet? The stench when I took off your shoes last night..."
