Chapter 607: Dandelion’s Promise 2

"I really won’t go."

Fang Qing gave a wry smile, having thought that once this girl started working, her personality might become a bit more restrained, but who would have known she was still as unrestrained as ever.

"If we’re going, we’re going."

Tong Dan didn’t persist any further, briskly moving on by herself. She approached the restaurant staff, exchanged a few words, and then made her way to the performance stage.

After one song finished, the young male lead singer handed over his microphone to her.

The restaurant’s patrons didn’t pay much attention to the change.

Tong Dan showed no signs of stage fright, sitting on the high stool. As the accompaniment began, she took the microphone and soon started singing.

"The love back then

Why could it be so simple

And why is it

When people are young

They must hurt the ones they deeply love..."

The lighting in the music restaurant was excellent, turning dim and hazy as her song continued.

"In this similar deep night

Are you, just like me

Quietly filled with regret and sorrow

If back then we could

Have been less stubborn

Now

It wouldn’t be so regretful."

Many people gradually turned their heads to look at the beautiful woman who sang serenely on stage, halting their conversations.

"How do you remember me

With a smile or in silence

Over these years

Has someone made you less lonely

Later on, I finally learned

How to love

It’s a pity you had already left

Disappearing into the crowd

Later, I finally understood through tears

Some people

Once missed will never come again..."

Fang Qing’s lips curled into a smile, quietly looking on.

Inside the restaurant.

Almost everyone stopped talking, many unconsciously began to hum along with the song, and some women even swayed their arms lightly to the rhythm.

"How do you remember me

With a smile or in silence

Over these years

Has someone made you less lonely

Later on, I finally learned

How to love

It’s a pity, you had already left

Disappearing into the crowd

Later, I finally understood through tears

Some people

Once missed will never come again..."

As the performance ended, the restaurant erupted in warm applause and cheers, and there were calls for an encore.

"Your friend, she’s a person with a story, huh."

Unsure of when, Ding He had returned to his seat.

Fang Qing smiled lightly, noncommittal.

"Thank you."

Tong Dan graciously expressed her thanks, not monopolizing the stage any longer. Having vented her emotions, she descended and returned to her seat.

"You sing really well," praised Ding He.

"Actually, I learned how to sing from Fang Qing; she sings much better than me," Tong Dan said as she sat back down, mischievously hinting at something.

"Is that so? Fang Qing, why don’t you go up and perform one too? Give us a treat."

As expected, Ding He smoothly continued the conversation.

"I haven’t sung in a long time,"

Fang Qing declined.

Ding He was indeed understanding and, upon hearing that, didn’t press the matter any further.

"Miss Tong, your love experiences must be quite rich and profound to sing this song with such immersion. Look at those young men; you nearly made them cry."

Tong Dan shook her head with a laugh, feigning a pitiable look, and sighed, "Not at all, I’ve yet to even taste the flavors of love up to now."

Fang Qing couldn’t help but lift the corners of her mouth.

"Look, even Fang Qing is laughing," jested Ding He.

Under the peach and plum trees.

Jiang Chen opened the car door and stepped out, looking at the artsy entrance. It was indeed the right place.

He walked into the restaurant to find it exceptionally lively.

The restaurant had two floors, both nearly full.

He scanned around briefly and didn’t spot anyone, so he decided to check out the second floor.

After a look around the second floor, he still came up empty-handed.

Could they have already left?

Unlikely.

The car ride here had only taken half an hour; dinner shouldn’t have finished so quickly.

Jiang Chen began descending to the lower floor, planning to call Fang Qing, just when a figure burst into his line of sight unexpectedly,

"Tong Dan!"

He called out in haste.

The person stopped, turned their head in surprise, and then their expression changed.

Jiang Chen quickly walked over.

"I thought you guys had left. Where’s Fang Qing? I didn’t see her."

"How come you’re here?"

Compared to on the plane, Tong Dan’s attitude was even worse. She wondered if she was hallucinating.

She had gone to the restroom and, upon coming out, how did she run into this guy?

"I came to the Capital City to handle some matters, and I happened to see you post on Moments that you and Fang Qing were eating here, so I came over."

Jiang Chen explained everything honestly.

Tong Dan suddenly realized, and then she was annoyed with herself. Why did she have to show her location?

"Sorry, you’re too late. Fang Qing has already left."

Jiang Chen was unfazed, acting as though he hadn’t heard anything. "Was it just the two of you?"

"Jiang Chen, are you deaf? I said Fang Qing has already left, she’s not here!"

Tong Dan raised her voice.

Jiang Chen’s expression didn’t change. "Then I’ll just have to give her a call."

Seeing that he was about to reach for his phone, Tong Dan became anxious and couldn’t help saying, "You already have a girlfriend, why are you still bothering Fang Qing? Jiang Chen, do you think you haven’t hurt Fang Qing enough?!"

Jiang Chen’s gaze intensified, and he paused in the act of reaching for his phone.

"You got the life you wanted, and Fang Qing is living well now too. You both have your own worlds, living your own lives. Isn’t that good?"

Jiang Chen fell silent.

Tong Dan took a deep breath.

"Jiang Chen, if you have any conscience left at all, please stay away from Fang Qing. Consider it a request from an old friend."

Jiang Chen didn’t utter a word.

Tong Dan didn’t linger anymore and turned to leave.

Jiang Chen stood in place, not following.

"What took you so long?"

When Tong Dan came back, Fang Qing asked with confusion.

The Peach and Plum was a national chain music restaurant with strong backing, and each branch was quite spacious. Plus, with many people from Tianhe Law Firm there for dinner tonight, it was really difficult to notice from the corner seat on the first floor.

"Nothing much, just touched up my makeup."

Tong Dan explained nonchalantly.

Fang Qing looked at her face and couldn’t see any traces of touch-up. Although she found it strange, she didn’t think too much about it.

Tong Dan glanced in the direction where Jiang Chen was and saw that he was still standing there. To prevent Fang Qing from noticing, she started to drink with Fang Qing.

"The dandelions by the primary school fence

are the scents in the landscape of memories

The sound of cicadas from the daytime sports field

still sounds pleasant after many years"

Accompanied by the cello, the young male singer began another song, his gentle voice pulling everyone in the restaurant back to those warm days filled with sunlight.

"Folding paper airplanes with wishes, sent as letters

Because we can’t wait for the shooting stars

Throw the coin that decides our fate with sincerity

Yet we don’t know where we can go..."

Fang Qing put down her glass.

"The promise of growing up together

So clear

I believe in the pinky swears

Agreed to travel together

It’s your only persisting willfulness now."

As former classmates and witnesses to each other’s youth, Tong Dan wore a complicated expression and hesitated to speak.

"Standing in punishment in the corridor, getting our palms smacked

We were rather focused on the dragonflies by the window

I’d follow you no matter where you went

So many dreams waiting to be pursued"

The soft light flowed slowly, sweeping over faces filled with confusion and distraction.

The singer held the microphone, humming softly, performing with deep emotion.

"The promise of growing up together

So heartfelt

The endless talks with you about the past

And I can no longer tell

If it’s friendship or a love that’s passed by

And I can no longer tell

If it’s friendship or a love that’s passed by."

The song slowly faded away.

But some thoughts still lingered in the times past, unawakened.

"Fang Qing, why did you buy two bowls of noodles?"

"That guy probably didn’t have breakfast; I got one for him."

"Fang Qing, you’re amazing, making it into the top twenty of our grade! Let’s go celebrate this afternoon!"

"I can’t, I have to tutor Jiang Chen."

"Fang Qing, are you dating Jiang Chen?"

"Not at all."

"Then why, on our rare half-day off to go shopping, do you want to buy clothes for him?"

"You see his pants are torn, and he doesn’t even know. If others see it, won’t it be embarrassing for us as his friends too?"

Tong Dan silently took a drink, a larger gulp than ever before.

And I can no longer tell if it’s friendship or a love that’s passed by.

As if there was anything to be unsure of.

The moment you start questioning, you already have your answer.

Tong Dan turned around and looked in that direction again.

Only to find that the figure was no longer there.
