Chapter 386: 354 Chang Wei

Back in the private room, everyone took their seats again.

Fang Qing still sat next to Fu Zili, with the boss Wan Yawen on the other side. Wan Yawen naturally had to accompany young master Chang, which meant that Fang Qing faced him almost directly.

"Jiang Chen said the traffic is a little heavy, he might need a while longer."

Fang Qing whispered, bowing her head.

She wasn’t a child anymore and understood the rules of society all too well. The things she had just witnessed did not stir too much emotion within her.

After all, she was just here to "mooch a meal."

Fu Zili gave an almost imperceptible nod.

"For young master Chang to grace us with his presence is truly an honor for Wan," said Wan Yawen, standing up personally to pour water as a sign of respect. Though he was probably about the age of Wan Yanwen’s father, the so-called respect for the old and love for the young was never the rule by which society operated.

Seeing the glass of water placed in front of him, Chang Wei finally deigned to remove his sunglasses.

It had to be admitted that this undoubtedly wealthy young master was quite the looker. Clean and fair, his skin was even smoother than that of most girls, resembling those pretty boys in the entertainment industry, yet he had an air of innate nobility that they lacked.

He played with his sunglasses and spoke, "Sha City, I’ve heard of it. A little place beyond the eighteenth tier, is a journey that far really necessary?"

His lips curled in disdain.

But it was quite humorous.

"Young master Chang, although Sha City has not developed as much as we hoped in the last decade or two, it still has potential..."

Wan Yawen forced a smile, swallowing any displeasure even as the other belittled his hometown.

Fu Zili, needless to say, couldn’t speak out with the boss sitting there; he had absolutely no place to interject.

Chang Wei leaned back in his chair with a sneer.

"As a child, when I read about the Three Kingdoms, they said Sha City was historically a strategic military location. It’s funny how it has ended up like this."

This guy had actually read about the Three Kingdoms?

That was truly rare.

Although she was an outsider, Fang Qing couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable when she heard him mock her birthplace with such sarcasm, yet she knew better than to weigh in recklessly.

Although she didn’t know the exact status of young master Chang, Fu Zili definitely needed something from him, and any argument she might start would surely ruin Fu Zili’s important business.

Therefore, Fang Qing could only pretend she had heard nothing.

"Enough, let’s have the dishes served," said Chang Wei, throwing his sunglasses onto the table.

Jiang Chen and his girlfriend were still not here; wasn’t serving the food now a bit impolite?

Fu Zili frowned, glancing involuntarily at boss Wan Yawen.

Wan Yawen maintained his smile, but subtly signaled with his eyes.

As a trusted subordinate, Fu Zili instantly understood his boss’s meaning.

Indeed.

There was a hierarchy of importance.

They couldn’t afford to offend people like Chang Wei.

Issues had to be prioritized.

With no other choice, Fu Zili rose and walked out to instruct the waiter to serve the dishes while also sending a message to Jiang Chen to hurry up.

Steamed East Sea star grouper with soy sauce.

Hidden Dragon in White Snow.

Fairy Lady’s Laugh.

White Lotus Union.

One after another, signature dishes were served.

One could tell that for this meal, Wan Yawen had spared no effort, bringing out almost all the specialties of the place.

"Young master Chang, what would you like to drink?" asked Wan Yawen.

"I’m driving, no alcohol," responded Chang Wei nonchalantly, seeming to be as rule-abiding when it came to traffic as Jiang Chen.

However, as soon as he finished speaking, he glanced at Fang Qing, who had been silent and hadn’t said much throughout.

"If this beautiful lady is drinking, I might as well keep her company," he said.

Both Wan Yawen and Fu Zili were taken aback.

Being streetwise, they both understood what he meant.

Fu Zili frowned.

With someone else, keeping Chang Wei happy at any cost would be the order of the day, even if it meant letting him take them away; but the key issue was that this was Fang Qing.

Fu Zili wanted to explain but, given his status, couldn’t speak directly.

Seizing the opportunity before he could finish speaking, boss Wan Yawen jumped in, "Young master Chang, actually this beautiful lady is not my employee. She’s a talented student from Shenzhou University of Political Science and Law, and a friend of Zili’s. She’s just here to travel in East Sea..."

"From the University of Political Science and Law?" Chang Wei interrupted again, his eyes showing a hint of surprise as he looked at the gently poised Fang Qing.

"Really?"

"Of course, she is the pride of Sha City."

The eyes of Chang Wei brightened slightly, and he studied Fang Qing with an inexplicably pleasant smile, "If that’s the case, it seems we really ought to drink tonight."

For the upper echelons,

beauty was never a scarce resource.

Especially for a scion from East Sea like Chang Wei.

Tired of ordinary beauties, they were at his beck and call without exaggeration.

What they needed was an extraordinary woman.

The title of a university student was quite enticing.

The logic was the same as ordinary people liking schoolgirls.

Fu Zili didn’t feel happy at all; on the contrary, his heart sank slightly, but he dared not openly defy or anger Chang Wei.

"Then let’s have some red wine," suggested Fu Zili.

"What’s the fun in red wine? Bring out the white liquor," Chang Wei seemed to become more interested.

"Young master Chang, my friend can’t drink wine," Fu Zili blurted out involuntarily.

Chang Wei looked over at him, his expression gradually becoming impassive and devoid of emotion.

Wan Yawen also began to feel a little awkward.

Fu Zili sat stiffly, knowing that he had displeased Chang Wei and unsure of what to do.

This opportunity had been hard-won after he and the boss had pleaded for two days; if Chang Wei left in a huff, then this trip to East Sea would have been for nothing.

"No problem, since young master Chang is so inclined, I’ll join him in a few drinks," said Fang Qing amidst the tense atmosphere.
