Chapter 381: 350 Waiting for Your Class to End (Requesting Votes)
It was past nine in the morning.
After driving Li Shuru to the dance studio, Jiang Chen arrived downstairs at the Bulgari Hotel.
Zheng Jingjing’s dance studio was growing steadily, with over ten students, all young children in primary school. For now, the finances were breaking even, and it wasn’t really making any money, but as an investor, Jiang Chen hadn’t cared about profit since the moment he put his money in.
Li Shuru wasn’t involved in operating the dance studio; she was just there to cover for Guo Ran, who was unavailable today.
When Jiang Chen rang the doorbell and entered, Fang Qing was having breakfast.
"Want to join me?"
"I’ve already eaten."
"Then wait for me for a bit."
"Sure, take your time, no rush."
Jiang Chen didn’t watch her eat but sat down on the sofa instead.
"Fu Zili said he’s here to study in East Sea. What’s he studying?"
"East Sea is known as a playground for the rich and a city that never sleeps; of course, there are places for people like them to learn things," Fang Qing said nonchalantly.
"Looks like no line of work is easy."
Jiang Chen smiled.
"Of course, he left early this morning."
"He’s not at the hotel anymore?"
"Yeah, he left around seven to pick up his boss."
They chatted while eating, and about four or five minutes later, Fang Qing pulled out a tissue to wipe her mouth.
"Let’s go."
They went downstairs.
Once inside the car and buckled up, Fang Qing couldn’t help but ask, "You always drive your girlfriend’s car, doesn’t she mind?"
"There’s nothing to mind about that."
Fang Qing looked at him, "Seems like you two have a great relationship."
Jiang Chen started the car, "Actually, before we got together, we went through quite a bit of hardship."
Fang Qing looked interested, "Do tell."
Jiang Chen sighed.
"The past troubles aren’t worth bringing up, better left unsaid."
"What, afraid I’ll laugh at you?"
Jiang Chen chuckled, "What’s there for you, a single person, to laugh at about me?"
Fang Qing was momentarily lost for words.
"I came all this way just for you to make fun of me, is that it?"
As bickering childhood friends, Jiang Chen felt completely unpressured.
"Honestly, don’t set your standards too high, just settle. Flowers can bloom again, but youth will not return. Don’t think you’re still young; a girl doesn’t have many of her best years."
"Enough, stop talking," Fang Qing interjected.
Leaning back in her seat, she pulled out her phone, "What’s the Bluetooth code?"
Silence filled the space.
Fang Qing turned to him,
"I’m asking you something."
"Didn’t you tell me not to talk?"
Fang Qing wanted to hold back but ultimately couldn’t.
It seemed only this guy had the knack to instantly ruin your good mood but also make you laugh amidst annoyance.
"The sparrow outside the window, chattering on the telegraph pole, you say this line captures the feeling of summer perfectly..."
After connecting to Bluetooth, Fang Qing played a song.
Listening to music was far more enjoyable than chatting with a certain someone.
The sound system from Voice of Berlin was not a joke, remembering the times when she could only listen to tapes.
How times change.
"Aren’t people all listening to ’Let’s Imitate the Cats Together’ now? Why are you still listening to such old songs?"
Jiang Chen asked, sounding rather dismissive.
"I love old songs, none of your business," she retorted.
As if to defy Jiang Chen, Fang Qing only played songs by Jay Chou. After all, with his vast collection, you could listen for hours without running out, unlike some "singers" who would leave you racking your brain to come up with even one classic hit.
"Lying on the sports field of your school gazing at the stars, the lights still on in the classroom, you’ve yet to leave ♪
Remember the letters I wrote you, it’s such an old practice, yet I’m still writing to this day ♪
Someday, maybe one year, you’ll realize, someone has quietly stayed by your side ♪
Perhaps I shouldn’t be in your world, by the time you receive this letter, I’ll already be far away ♪"
With Fang Qing’s humming and Jiang Chen’s words of disdain, he drove into the gates of East University with a softer smile.
"We’re here."
Jiang Chen parked the car in front of the Administration Building.
Fang Qing got out of the car.
"Not too shabby," she said.
Jiang Chen closed the car door, "It’s passable."
"Let’s go check out your college first," she suggested.
Jiang Chen acted as a competent guide, walking while continuously introducing the school’s various buildings and sights.
Fang Qing listened intently, occasionally responding, and they talked and laughed together, the atmosphere much more harmonious than in the car.
They arrived at the entrance to the Economics College, and a bulletin board caught Fang Qing’s attention immediately.
Moving closer, she saw a photo pinned inside. She looked back at him with feigned hesitation, "Is this you?"
Jiang Chen nonchalantly replied, "Should be."
"Wow, you’re the model student, I didn’t see that coming."
Jiang Chen was calm and collected as if it were no big deal, "Just a bit of hollow reputation, not worth mentioning. Let’s go in."
"Getting cocky now, aren’t you?" Fang Qing couldn’t help but chuckle; she knew about his excellence and wasn’t too surprised.
Not everyone was as leisurely as them; in many classrooms, students were still attending classes.
They strolled from floor to floor, looking for all the world like student leaders on an inspection.
Sixth floor.
Jiang Chen stopped outside classroom 608, "I often had classes here."
Fang Qing tentatively pushed the door.
Unexpectedly, it swung open.
Jiang Chen was surprised.
Normally, classrooms that weren’t in use were supposed to be locked.
Of course.
There could always be times when mistakes happened.
"Ah..."
Without waiting for Jiang Chen to stop her, Fang Qing walked straight in.
The classroom was small, after all, it was for lectures on specialized subjects, and the seats were packed closely together, not much different from those at the School of Political Science and Law.
"If someone saw me, I could get reprimanded," Jiang Chen stood at the entrance.
Because the classroom contained expensive equipment like computers and projectors, students were not allowed to enter at will when classes were not in session.
"Aren’t you the academic star? Don’t you have that much clout?"
Fang Qing didn’t think much of it; her finger traced the blackboard as she walked down from the podium and took a seat near the back, by the window.
"Do you always sit here?"
Jiang Chen was taken aback and subconsciously glanced at the surveillance camera in the classroom.
He wondered if Fang Qing had been monitoring him all along.
But actually...
He did have a particular fondness for this spot. Though most top students liked to sit at the front, he was different. Maybe it was a habit formed in middle and elementary school; he didn’t like to be too close to the podium and preferred being by the window, where he could look at the scenery outside if he felt tired.
"Let’s go, there’s nothing interesting to see here."
Fang Qing, apparently ignoring him, turned her head to look out the window.
"You must have been distracted a lot during class, and still, you could be an academic star, sigh."
Jiang Chen felt as if the person before him overlapped with his former self during class.
His childhood friend, who had grown up with him, had suddenly traveled a great distance to his school, to his classroom, and was now sitting in his seat, looking out at the scenery he once watched, in almost the exact same manner.
Jiang Chen suddenly felt that it was a bit surreal.
Before he knew it, Fang Qing had already walked back over.
"Let’s go, so you don’t actually get caught and tarnish your reputation as a model student. Let’s check out other places."
She walked out of the classroom.
When leaving, Jiang Chen closed the door that wasn’t properly locked.
"Beauty!"
After taking a tour up and down the School of Economics, a shout suddenly came from behind as they were leaving.
Jiang Chen found the voice very familiar and turned around.
As expected.
It was Luo Peng.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to consult about a thesis."
Luo Peng explained briefly as he ran over, and at the same time, he shot Jiang Chen a look that said "you’re not being fair," while also admiring his good buddy’s courage.
What defines a real man?
This is it,
So upright and forthright.
Not the slightest bit cowardly.
Jiang Chen, of course, knew that Luo Peng must have misunderstood something and quickly explained to Fang Qing, who was looking puzzled: "This is my roommate, Luo Peng, and this is my childhood friend, Fang Qing, a brilliant student from Shenzhou School of Political Science and Law. She’s here to visit East Sea."
Childhood friend?
Luo Peng was caught off guard.
He had thought Jiang Chen had picked up another beauty somewhere.
But he was quick to react, immediately mustering an enthusiastic smile to greet Fang Qing.
"He left out a very important detail. I’m currently single," Fang Qing said with a smile.
"I never imagined Jiang Chen had such a beautiful childhood friend, he never mentioned you to us before," Luo Peng said.
Fang Qing glanced at Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen shrugged his shoulders with a look of helplessness.
"Hello," Fang Qing greeted Luo Peng politely in turn.
Jiang Chen had intended to send Luo Peng on his way, but the guy just didn’t get the hint, sticking around like a plaster.
"Beauty Fang Qing, let’s exchange contact information later. I’m actually very curious about the judicial field and could ask you for advice," Luo Peng suggested.
"She’s very busy, she doesn’t have time to chat with you," Jiang Chen almost said to Luo Peng to go wherever he pleased.
Chasing after Luo Li’er, pursuing Koda, Jiang Chen could overlook these, but he wouldn’t allow Luo Peng, the playboy, to meddle with Fang Qing.
He didn’t have anything against Luo Peng, but Luo Peng wasn’t settled yet, and his attitude towards relationships wasn’t responsible. If Fang Qing got hurt because of him, Jiang Chen wouldn’t know how to face Uncle Fang and Aunt Pan.
"The beauty hasn’t said anything yet, what’s your hurry?" Luo Peng said enthusiastically, "Beauty Fang Qing, since you’re rarely visiting our school, have lunch with me. I’m good friends with Jiang Chen, so don’t be polite with me."
It was difficult to refuse such warmth and hospitality.
It’s unbecoming to refuse a friendly hand.
Fang Qing really had no way to say no.
In the end, the three of them had a simple meal in the canteen.
Out of courtesy, Fang Qing still added Luo Peng on WeChat, and only then did he leave contentedly.
"In a few days, you can delete his WeChat," Jiang Chen said rather uncharitably.
"Why?" Fang Qing asked.
"He’s a playboy, currently chasing a teacher at our school," Jiang Chen laid bare his good friend without any concealment.
Fang Qing smiled, thinking about the young man’s earlier behavior, and didn’t find it too surprising that he was chasing a teacher.
"It’s okay, it’d be rude to delete it. He may be a playboy, but he’s probably not a bad person," she said.
You have to admit,
Maybe it’s because she studies law, but Fang Qing does have a good instinct about people.
Jiang Chen wanted to say something but held back.
"Are you worried about something?" Fang Qing asked with a smile, "You don’t think something will happen between him and me, do you? Do you think he’s my type?"
Jiang Chen had no comeback, maybe because he didn’t know the answer.
"Let’s go, we don’t have much time," Fang Qing walked down the steps of the canteen.
Jiang Chen didn’t understand her fascination with East Sea University. Wasn’t Shenzhou School of Political Science and Law much more imposing and well-established?
"What are you dazing about? Let’s go," Fang Qing paused and looked back from the bottom of the stairs.
"I’m coming."
