Chapter 380: 349 Friends come from afar_3
Even if it did happen, it would certainly not be at a Bvlgari restaurant.
The people who worked in such places, even if just as a humble waiter, had all undergone layer upon layer of professional training. How could they possibly kick someone out for an issue with their clothing?
Of course.
Some high-end venues indeed have a dress code.
But that’s before you even get through the door.
To let someone in and then kick them out would be to disregard their own reputation completely.
So, the waiter decisively refused the unreasonable request of the socialite and even added a meaningful statement.
"That gentleman is a frequent customer of our restaurant. If you feel uncomfortable, I can arrange another seat for you."
The socialite’s face suddenly became somewhat embarrassed.
A single mention of "frequent customer" was enough to demonstrate the man’s standing. Coming to Bvlgari was as routine for him as it was for ordinary people to visit a street stall for skewers. It’s just everyday life, so there’s no need for much fuss.
The more one cares about something, the more it betrays what they lack.
Eventually, the socialite backed down without making any fuss, not even asking to change seats, swallowing her pride as she continued to take photos with her phone of the dishes on the table, the restaurant’s environment, and herself.
They dined until the sun set in the west.
Twilight’s stars twinkled faintly.
Jiang Chen walked along the Bund with Fang Qing and Fu Zili.
Sha City had a moat, locally called Ma River, circling the old town and just a few minutes’ walk from the Sansheng Compound. As children, they often played by the riverside.
Times change, places change.
"It’s a shame that the sightseeing boat requires a reservation a week in advance. I really wanted to experience it. It must be different from when we used to row on Ma River as kids," said Fu Zili, gazing at the Pu River.
"How long are you planning to stay this time?" asked Jiang Chen.
"Still listening to the boss’s arrangements. I’m here to learn this time in East Sea. Don’t worry about me, you just take good care of Fang Qing. My boss arrives tomorrow, and I’ll leave Fang Qing in your hands then."
"Sure."
Jiang Chen turned to Fang Qing, "Is there anywhere you would like to go?"
"Let’s visit East University," suggested Fang Qing, smoothing her hair.
Jiang Chen was surprised and chuckled, "My school can’t compare with the School of Political Science and Law. What’s there to see? How about I take you to Disneyland instead?"
"What’s so fun about Disneyland? It’s all people everywhere, and if you’re not standing in line, you’re on your way to stand in another. With that time, I might as well go to a library and read a book," Fang Qing said uninterested.
Jiang Chen gave a wry smile and suddenly felt that she and Xiao Bai would have a lot in common.
"Jiang Chen, Fang Qing is not like other girls. She’s a talented woman and wants to visit your university, so just take her there," Fu Zili interjected with a smile.
He liked Fang Qing not because she had been pretty since childhood but because of a certain indescribable quality she possessed.
Having dropped out of high school and mixed in with society for many years, he had met many women of all sorts. There were pretty ones too, yet none could evoke the feeling that Fang Qing did.
But, alas, life is always filled with regrets.
"Fine, since the beautiful Miss Fang has spoken, of course I have no objections. I’ll pick you up early tomorrow morning."
"Why go through all that trouble? I can just take the subway," Fang Qing said politely.
Jiang Chen didn’t make a fuss and casually replied, "Take Line 6 to Line 1. If you’re not sure how to ride, give me a call."
"You two... hahaha..." Fu Zili couldn’t hold back his laughter first.
Soon after, Jiang Chen and Fang Qing joined in the laughter.
————
"Why are you back so early?"
Spring and Autumn Plaza.
Rooftop garden.
Having heard the sounds of the car downstairs, Li Shuru was still watering the plants with her watering can.
This once aloof and cold beauty of the Art Institute was becoming more and more down to earth, not only taking care of plants personally but even delving into cooking.
A so-called goddess, after all, can be brought down from the pedestal.
"Or should I have stayed over there and slept?" Jiang Chen walked in.
"Not that it’s out of the question," he mused, "childhood friends, innocent of the world’s ways, surely there’s much to talk about. Chatting all night wouldn’t be strange."
Watching the girl who continued to water the plants, Jiang Chen casually took a seat on the wicker chair, "I did tell you about it. It was your own choice not to go."
Li Shuru put down her watering can.
"I’m not jealous."
"Really?"
Li Shuru stood up straight and turned around, "Do I seem that petty to you?"
"Of course not," Jiang Chen coughed lightly.
"By the way, Fang Qing said she wants to visit East University tomorrow. Shall we go pick her up together in the morning?" he asked.
She came all the way here; naturally, it wouldn’t be right to actually have her take the subway.
Fang Qing wasn’t as submissive as she appeared. If she turned around and complained to Uncle Fang and the rest, he would be in hot water.
And it wouldn’t be the first time she’d done something like that.
"I have to go to the dance studio tomorrow..." Li Shuru hesitated.
"Then forget about it," Jiang Chen didn’t press the issue.
Li Shuru put down her teapot and sat down next to him, "How about I take her out for dinner when I come back in the afternoon?"
"I don’t know how long she’ll be at East University, so let’s see how it goes. If not this time, there will always be other opportunities. No rush."
"How could that be okay? She might even think I’m avoiding her," Li Shuru protested with a chuckle.
Jiang Chen laughed softly, "What’s the connection?"
"Anyway, I’ll try to come back as soon as I can."
Li Shuru tilted her head, "Is your childhood friend really that pretty?"
Without much hesitation, Jiang Chen smiled gently.
"As kids, we all thought there couldn’t be a prettier girl than her."
Li Shuru didn’t ask the foolish question of who was prettier, she or the other girl.
"That’s quite a pity," she remarked.
Jiang Chen, reflexively replied, "A pity for what?"
"It seems childhood friends seldom end up together," Li Shuru murmured.
Then Jiang Chen understood and said with a smile, "Do you know why?"
"Why?"
He looked up at the moon.
"Can you ever be with someone who understands you better than you understand yourself?"
Li Shuru thought for a moment, breathed out softly, and also looked up.
"That seems impossible."
Bvlgari Hotel.
Fang Qing stood by herself in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, silently gazing at the same bright moon.
