Chapter 375: 347 Technician (Vote for monthly tickets!)

Jiang Chen walked up to Luo Peng and gave him a tentative push, only to find that the guy was dead to the world.

"Teacher Xiang Tian, how much did you guys drink?"

"See for yourself, I thought he could hold his liquor, but it turns out..."

There it was.

As expected, contempt.

To lose to a woman at the drinking table is essentially the same as coming up short in bed; for a man, it’s an unspeakable humiliation.

Jiang Chen looked at the table.

Two bottles of liquor.

If they were empty, that would make about a liter and a half, shared between two people.

He had tried the liquor here before.

Luo Peng’s tolerance wasn’t so poor that he’d be floored by that amount.

Or was it that they drank different kinds of liquor?

Of course.

There’s another possibility.

The liquor doesn’t get you drunk; it’s the drinker who gets himself drunk.

Drinking is all about the atmosphere, indeed.

Drinking with someone like Koda Kaoru could befuddle anyone.

"I didn’t expect you, Teacher Xiang Tian, to be such a strong drinker."

While Luo Peng was plastered, Koda Kaoru seemed as if nothing had happened, at most her cheeks were a bit more rosy.

"Back in my hometown, we’ve had the custom of drinking from a young age."

Jiang Chen was rendered speechless.

There it was.

Luo Peng really was out of luck, showing off in front of an expert.

"I kept advising him to drink less, but he just wouldn’t listen, sigh..."

Koda Kaoru sighed, looking at Luo Peng sprawled on the ground.

Jiang Chen couldn’t help but laugh and cry, remarking, "Teacher Xiang Tian, if you had told him about your drinking capacity earlier, I bet he wouldn’t have ended up like this."

"How would I know?"

Koda Kaoru shook her head with a smile, "There’s still a lot of food left, do you want to eat some?"

After vigorous exercise, Jiang Chen had indeed burned a lot of energy and felt rather hungry.

He looked at Luo Peng and did not refuse,

Let him rest for a bit, maybe later he would get up on his own.

Since the table was only so big, just as Jiang Chen was preparing to take a seat on the narrow side, Koda Kaoru shifted over a bit.

"Sit here, Jiang Chen," she offered.

Jiang Chen felt it was a bit improper, but avoiding it deliberately would seem even more inappropriate.

So, he ended up sitting next to Koda Kaoru.

Meiko came in and added another set of chopsticks and a bowl.

"Aren’t you eating?"

"I’m full."

Koda Kaoru shook her head, glanced sideways, her eyes playful, "If you want to drink, I can still keep you company."

Truly a spirited woman.

Jiang Chen forced a smile.

"My tolerance is even worse than Luo Peng’s. If I end up on the ground too, you might have trouble finding help, Teacher Xiang Tian."

Koda Kaoru let out a chuckle, radiance in her tease.

"I had thought that all Shenzhou people could hold their alcohol well."

Jiang Chen ate in silence, not contesting the momentary measure of pride.

Koda Kaoru, resting her head on her hand, watched him eat, tilting her head.

Even though there’s a saying about feasting for the eyes, at this moment Jiang Chen found the food somewhat tasteless.

"Jiang Chen, I noticed that waiter seemed quite familiar with you?"

She switched between two forms of address with her luscious red lips.

"Hmm, I’ve been here before."

"Oh, is that so."

Koda Kaoru appeared to understand, then turned her gaze to his clean, young face, leaning her elbow on the table and asking with interest, "Then do you know the story behind the name of this room?"

Jiang Chen shook his head.

Koda Kaoru was a bit disappointed.

"Jiang Chen, don’t you have a little understanding of Dongying’s culture?"

Back to Jiang Chen again.

A tiny country, a nation of ugliness; what’s there to know?

Of course.

Those thoughts were not suitably expressed aloud.

While he had no particular fondness for the country itself, Jiang Chen had nothing against Koda Kaoru personally. Nodding directly didn’t seem quite right, so he politely responded, "Not exactly clueless, I’m familiar with Teacher Sora."

"..."

Koda Kaoru was taken aback, then her face flushed with a rosy hue.

"Jiang Chen, you’re not being serious," she chided.

Adults all around, such talk would at most be taken as a joke. Was there really a need to be shy?

If it were any other girl, they probably wouldn’t react this way, might even engage in a lively discussion.

"Where I come from, there’s a legend of Qing Ji, who fell in love with the monk An Zhen traveling far away to worship the Bodhisattva. As a monk, An Zhen firmly left Qing Ji. Qing Ji, in pursuit of her beloved, traveled thousands of miles after An Zhen, suffering much hardship. By the time she caught up with him, she was no longer human nor ghost."

Koda Kaoru spoke gently and softly, telling the tale.

"The terrifying visage of Qing Ji scared An Zhen into running for his life. As she chased him, An Zhen managed to cross a large river ahead of her. By the time Qing Ji arrived, there were no boats left, yet she still jumped into the river. She transformed into a massive snake and continued the chase onto land. An Zhen ran and ran until he reached Da Cheng temple, but the snake followed. The monks in the temple couldn’t deal with the snake, so they hid An Zhen inside a large bell."

Black ceremonial bells suspended by silken threads seemed to resonate with Koda Kaoru’s voice.

"After Qing Ji entered Da Cheng temple, she quickly found out where her beloved was hiding, immediately coiled around the bell, but to no avail as the bell was sturdy. In the end, probably feeling helpless but unwilling to give up, she set herself on fire. She burned herself along with the bell and the monk inside to charcoal. If she couldn’t live with her beloved, then she would die with him," she continued.

Jiang Chen put down his chopsticks.

Whether it was an illusion or not, as Koda Kaoru’s words hit the ground, the room with the black bells hanging on threads suddenly filled with an eerie chill.

"Teacher Xiang Tian, telling a horror story late at night?"

"Why do I think it’s a tragically beautiful love story?"

Koda Kaoru’s eyes shimmered with yearning.

"Isn’t it the Shenzhou way to share life and death together? Qing Ji accomplished just that. How romantic?"

Jiang Chen remained silent.

To share life and a death bed, that kind of love is indeed great, but what you’re talking about is not the same thing at all.

When someone doesn’t love you back, yet you insist on dragging them to death with you, that’s clearly the act of a madman or a psychopath.

Who could accept this kind of "romance"?

Yet Jiang Chen didn’t argue, as every country has its unique folk tales, long live understanding.

After a few quick bites, he put down his chopsticks.

"Let’s go, Teacher Xiang Tian, if we’re any later, the dormitory will probably be locked."

As Koda Kaoru tried to stand up, it seemed like she had been sitting for too long and her legs were numb. She stumbled as she tried to rise, letting out a little yelp, nearly falling over.

Fortunately, Jiang Chen’s quick reflexes allowed him to support her.

The scent of her was heady.

Stirring emotions.

Koda Kaoru was almost leaning into Jiang Chen’s embrace.

"Are you okay?"

"My legs are numb."

Leaning on the young man’s shoulder, Koda Kaoru’s beautiful eyebrows were slightly furrowed, her fragile demeanor almost begging for someone to smooth away the wrinkles on her brow.

Jiang Chen could only slowly lower her back to her seat.

"Bastard! Chinese pig!"

In the security room.

The scene inside the "Daigo-ji Temple Bell" was fully captured on the surveillance screen.

The store manager, Sagan Nobuo, was watching with Meiko. His face was dark and twisted, his eyes fixed hatefully on Jiang Chen who was in close contact with Koda Kaoru.

"I will chop off his hands!"

A cold smile seeped onto Meiko’s pallid face, as the other’s impotent rage seemed to please her immensely.

"You need to understand your place. We have no right to interfere with the young lady’s decisions."

"Damn it!"

Sagan Nobuo’s face trembled as he clenched his teeth.

In the surveillance footage, Jiang Chen had once again placed the numb-legged Koda Kaoru on the floor.

Sagan Nobuo’s eyes were sharp as needles.

Seizing the opportunity for revenge, Meiko pointedly added, "If we weren’t so incompetent, the young lady wouldn’t have needed to take matters into her own hands."

Sagan Nobuo turned his head like a malevolent ghost.

"Don’t think that just because the young lady is here you’ve found a backer. In her eyes, you are no more than an ant," he said, affirming his own dominant leadership stance.

"Ant."

Meiko, who had been casually abused before, muttered the word, her eyes cold and lonely as she watched the surveillance, her lips curling into a smile devoid of emotion.

"Aren’t you the same?"

In the surveillance footage.

The Daigo-ji Temple Bell.

Koda Kaoru frowned as she slowly massaged her legs, enveloped in black cotton pants, seemingly not much relieved of the numbness.

"Jiang Chen, could you help me with a massage?"

Jiang Chen was caught off guard.

Was she asking him to massage her legs?

Instinctively looking at those alluring legs, he could imagine how wonderful it would feel to the touch, especially considering their special identities.

Believe it or not.

Teacher and student, and nearby, a drunk-as-a-lord Luo Peng.

Doesn’t it sound a bit like a scene from a Dongying art film?

After a pause, thankfully Jiang Chen was of exceptionally strong will.

"This is a bit, inappropriate, isn’t it?"

"What’s inappropriate about it?"

Koda Kaoru looked up, her watery, charming eyes filled with confusion, as if she really didn’t see what was wrong.

Perhaps it’s a difference in national customs.

Jiang Chen suddenly found himself at a loss for words, unable to articulate a reason.

Indeed.

If one’s intentions were honorable, giving a leg massage didn’t seem like a big deal.

"Jiang Chen, my student?"

With no other choice, Jiang Chen crouched down, extended his hand, and placed it on her well-proportioned legs.

Koda Kaoru closed her eyes in contentment and made faint sighs as Jiang Chen massaged.

"Feet."

She was still directing.

Jiang Chen, steadfast in his resolve, took hold of one delicate foot.

By now, he was genuinely worried that Luo Peng would suddenly wake up.

If Luo Peng saw this scene, he might not be able to explain it away, even if he had a mouth to do so.

Hypothetically, for those with a foot or stocking fetish, most would go crazy, and Koda Kaoru might end up like the monk in her story, engulfed in flames of desire.

Fortunately, student Jiang Chen was an all-around exemplary young man, of sound character. He remained untempted by baseness even after several minutes of massaging.

"Let’s go."

Feeling it was about time, he decisively withdrew his hand.

What a lack of appreciation.

Some people would lick those feet willingly if given the chance.

A flicker of surprise crossed Koda Kaoru’s eyes, followed by a slow exhale.

"That was really soothing."

Jiang Chen, who had momentarily turned into a skilled masseur, stood up without expecting a five-star rating from the customer; instead, he helped Luo Peng up.

The trio left the izakaya.

Koda Kaoru started her car, a cute Beetle, but as she had been drinking, Jiang Chen had to take the wheel.

Back at the school, Jiang Chen called Li Shao down to help take Luo Peng upstairs, and then drove Koda Kaoru back to the faculty dormitory.

"Thank you, Jiang Chen," she said as they got out of the car, taking the keys he handed her.

"Would you like to come up and sit for a while?"

This was probably just a polite invitation.

Jiang Chen, aware of social graces, politely declined.

"No need, Teacher Xiang Tian, you should rest early, good night."

"Good night."

Turning around, Jiang Chen walked away.

Watching him blend into the night, Koda Kaoru whispered to herself,

"Isn’t that a bit too greedy?"
