Chapter 292: 287 Pandora

Chen Zhou was awakened by a soft, low sobbing.

As he opened his eyes and looked towards the source of the sound, his groggy brain went blank, and his heart skipped a beat.

He saw the seductive woman in a kimono curled up in the corner, secretly wiping away tears, with disheveled hair, one of her white socks off, clinging tightly to her no longer neat kimono—an image so clear that even a fool would understand what had happened!

Chen Zhou was stunned, then subconsciously glanced at himself.

His suit jacket had already been tossed aside, every button on his shirt was undone, and his belt was half unbuckled...

If he needed a word to describe his appearance at that moment, ’dissolute’ would be all too fitting.

Chen Zhou hastily sat up, hurriedly fastening his buttons, his back breaking out in a dense cold sweat. In his panic, he even buttoned them up incorrectly.

Hearing the movement, the kimono woman looked up, eyes misty with tears, lashes beaded with moisture, makeup completely ruined, especially the alarming slap mark on her face, shattering the last shred of hope in Chen Zhou’s heart.

His scalp tingled.

"Qiu, Manager Qiu..."

No response.

Chen Zhou quickly turned his head, only to realize that apart from himself and the woman in the kimono, there was no one else in the private room—Qiu Zhaobin, who had invited him for drinks, was nowhere to be seen.

What in the world had happened?!

Fragments of memories began to flash back in his mind.

Chen Zhou vaguely remembered that it seemed Qiu Zhaobin had left the woman in the kimono to drink with him and had even made her sit by his side. Then, as he drank more and more, and then...

No.

Please, no...

A tumble of flax.

Even in her terror, she had blurted out her native dialect.

Chen Zhou’s pupils constricted as his thoughts quickly detached from the memories, hearing once more the plaintive, sobbing sounds.

It was over.

The drunken stupor had long been scared away; after the violent outburst, rationality returned, and realizing the crime he had committed, Chen Zhou’s limbs went cold. Looking again at the pitifully weak woman cowered there, all desire and heat vanished, leaving only panic and fear in his heart!

"I’m, I’m so sorry."

Always priding himself on his integrity and having never encountered such a situation before, Chen Zhou had no idea how to deal with it. Clueless, he could only follow human instinct—the first thought that popped into his head was to run away.

He staggered to his feet, hurriedly buckled his belt, picked up his coat from the floor, and, stepping over the money he had earlier scattered, stumbled towards the door and yanked it open.

He didn’t know what time it was, but the near death-like silence of the place indicated that the customers must have all left.

Panicked, Chen Zhou was about to change his shoes when suddenly, his gaze sharpened.

There was Qiu Zhaobin, passed out at the bar, sleeping soundly.

That’s how human nature is—seeing him was like seeing a savior. Chen Zhou, not even bothering to change his shoes, rushed over and shoved him forcefully, "Manager Qiu..."

Qiu Zhaobin stirred slowly, still seemingly groggy, his gaze blank.

"Chen Zhou?"

"Manager Qiu, what are you doing here?"

Chen Zhou lowered his voice, his eyes darting around like a thief.

Thankfully, the store was dead quiet; even the staff were nowhere to be seen.

"Why am I here..."

Qiu Zhaobin looked confused for a moment, then it seemed to dawn on him, "Chen Zhou, wasn’t it you who asked me to step out?"

"I asked you to step out?"

"You said you wanted to have a couple of drinks alone with that woman, and told me to go out first..."

Chen Zhou’s heart sank as he roughly grasped what had happened, his complexion going through violent changes.

He had overestimated his self-control.

But then again, he thought, it was not his fault.

If there was anyone to blame.

It could only be the Shi Family!

If it weren’t for their heartlessness, would he have come here to drown his sorrows? And how could he have done such a foolish thing?!

"Chen Zhou, where is that woman?"

Qiu Zhaobin asked, and then, as if sensing something amiss from Chen Zhou’s expression.

He looked towards the private room where they had been drinking, "Did something happen?"

"No, nothing."

Chen Zhou shook his head quickly.

But his guilty countenance could not escape Qiu Zhaobin’s perceptive eyes.

"Manager Qiu, don’t go there!"

Chen Zhou instinctively tried to stop him, but this time Qiu Zhaobin didn’t comply and started walking towards the private room.

Chen Zhou raised his hand wanting to grab him, but for some reason, he let it drop midway.

Qiu Zhaobin didn’t enter the room; rather, he stopped at the entrance, or more precisely, froze there.

After a while, he turned back, his face full of shock and disbelief,

"Chen Zhou, you..."

Chen Zhou’s face showed shame, "I don’t know, I was very drunk..."

Perhaps this is how people are when faced with trouble: their first reaction is to make excuses, to flee from responsibility.

Qiu Zhaobin hurried back, still intentionally lowering his voice despite no one being around, creating a tense atmosphere.

"Chen Zhou, was she willing?"

Chen Zhou swallowed hard, with difficulty he said, "She, she probably wasn’t."

The question of consent was clear as day.

If it had been consensual, would she need to cry and wail?

Qiu Zhaobin was likely only taking it in, but once he got Chen Zhou’s answer, his expression instantly turned exceptionally serious.

"President Chen, doesn’t that mean you were forci..."

It seemed that the effect of the alcohol on both of them had already dissipated.

For ordinary people, those two words were still relatively heavy.

"I didn’t, I was just drunk!"

Chen Zhou hurriedly defended himself.

"President Chen, can you tell the police that you did it because you were drunk?"

Chen Zhou was instantly left speechless and, at the same time, more fearful.

Before this feast of drinks, he was merely lamenting the unfairness of fate, simply aggrieved by job-related matters.

But now, everything before seemed trivial.

After all, his entire life’s destiny was now facing a severe crisis.

If things went wrong, not to mention being the head of the administrative department, he could end up behind bars, his life ruined in an instant!

Thinking of the police taking him away from the company, Chen Zhou’s face went deathly pale, and with an almost pleading tone, he trembled, "Manager Qiu, you must help me, I really didn’t do it on purpose..."

Perhaps because it wasn’t his problem, Qiu Zhaobin, though looking a bit pale, was at least more composed than him; after a moment of silence, he said, "President Chen, don’t be so nervous, things are not as serious as you imagine."

Not serious?

If he were to be labeled with that kind of accusation, he would be pointed at by thousands, and even if not sentenced to death, his life would be over!

"President Chen, listen to me."

True to his role as a marketing expert, Qiu Zhaobin quickly said, "First of all, there were only the two of you in the room when it happened, and whether she was willing or not is unclear to anyone. Even if it goes to court, we still have room for maneuver. She’s just a waitress, how can she have the ability to fight against us?"

Chen Zhou’s eyes flickered. Listening to Qiu Zhaobin’s words, his anxious heart gradually calmed down a bit.

Indeed.

He was an elite of the upper echelons of society, a young and successful talent, whereas she?

She was merely someone from the lower class.

"But even if we go to court, my reputation will be ruined..."

Qiu Zhaobin fell silent for a moment.

"President Chen, you’re not wrong, which is why the best course of action is to not let this situation escalate."

Chen Zhou looked confused, not understanding his meaning.

"President Chen, don’t forget, she’s a woman, and reputation is important to her too. If this gets out, how can she continue her life? This is also why eighty percent of women who are violated don’t report it to the police."

It was as if Chen Zhou had woken from a dream. Looking at Qiu Zhaobin as though he were holding a lifeline, he said urgently, "Manager Qiu, if you can help me this time, I will be eternally grateful."

Qiu Zhaobin smiled and patted his shoulder.

"President Chen, we are friends, there’s no need for such formalities. Come with me."

With that, he turned and went back into the private room.

Chen Zhou hesitated, but ultimately followed him in.

"What else do you want to do?"

Seeing the two of them enter the room, the kimono-clad woman seemed scared again, instinctively retreating even though there was nowhere to go.

"Don’t be nervous, we just want to talk to you."

Qiu Zhaobin squatted two steps away from her, keeping an appropriate distance.

"You should understand, President Chen didn’t do it on purpose, it was the alcohol’s fault."

Upon hearing this, not just the kimono-clad woman, even Chen Zhou felt somewhat embarrassed.

"What’s your name?"

"Mei... Meiko."

"Lift your head."

Meiko slowly raised her head; although no longer as seductive, the sight of her tear-streaked face radiated a totally different kind of beauty.

"Why cry? Meeting President Chen is your good fortune."

Qiu Zhaobin was indeed a master of rhetoric, fully playing the card of concept substitution and evasion.

"You heard just now, President Chen is an executive at Jin Hai Enterprises. Do you know Jin Hai Enterprises?"

Meiko weakly shook her head, showing she did not know.

"It doesn’t matter if you don’t know, you just need to understand, being with President Chen is a thousand times, ten thousand times better than working here!"

Chen Zhou was caught off guard.

And a bit baffled.

He had forced her.

And Qiu Zhaobin was still suggesting she follow him?

She was the victim, how could she possibly agree?

But what unfolded next was even more incredible to him; Meiko glanced at him and didn’t object.

Chen Zhou’s worldview began to shatter.

"Stop crying, tidy yourself up, we’ll take you home in a bit."

Qiu Zhaobin smiled gently, then stood up, and seeing Chen Zhou staring at him in a daze, he casually explained, "President Chen, don’t be surprised, women are like that, when you’re weak, they’re strong, when you’re strong, they’re weak. No matter how tough a woman is, she’s still a woman. As long as you have her, she won’t turn against you to the death, especially since this is a Dongying woman."

Chen Zhou’s mind was in disarray, "But..."

"President Chen, the best thing to do now is to have her follow you for now, just to keep her steady. Or are you saying you don’t like her?"

Chen Zhou glanced at Meiko on the ground and stopped talking.

Qiu Zhaobin’s smile was laden with deeper implications.

"President Chen, you need a companion too, right? And, I’ve heard that Dongying women are quite the creatures in bed. You must have experienced that just now."

Gone were the fear and apprehension, and thinking back to the vague scene before, Chen Zhou involuntarily swallowed, and as he looked at Meiko, his gaze grew hot again. It was as if some forbidden box within him had been opened.
