Chapter 259: 255 New Year’s Day (Third Update)

"Jiang Chen, didn’t you say you were going to get Pei Yunxi to endorse us? You were just bragging, right?"

In the packed auditorium.

Luo Peng sat at the back, eyeing Jiang Chen with skepticism.

A few weeks ago, the latter had boasted grandly, but with the approach of the "New Year," not a trace of activity was evident.

"Don’t worry, such a big star isn’t that easy to get in touch with."

Jiang Chen tried to explain, actually waiting for word from Luo Li’er.

"Epoch" was a New Year’s blockbuster, due for release after the holiday, and with the timeline so tight, Pei Yunxi must indeed be very busy.

"I heard that Ai Qian will also be on stage today."

Luo Peng changed the subject, bringing up precisely what was most awkward, "As classmates, should we cheer for her later?"

Jiang Chen didn’t bite.

The long-awaited New Year’s Eve gala was about to start, and students from all grades and departments had already taken their seats under the guidance of their instructors.

The auditorium, large enough for ten thousand, was decked out anew, brightly lit and festooned, with an air of celebration.

Even the "reclusive" senior students had all turned up.

After all.

Today might be their last New Year’s Day on campus.

"Chen-ge, will Li-xue Mei perform on stage tonight?"

Bai Zheli inquired.

Jiang Chen shook his head, "She’s not participating."

"That’s a relief, otherwise it would be really awkward," mumbled Luo Peng.

"The school seems to have invited quite a few VIPs." Li Shao looked towards the front of the auditorium.

There sat the school leaders.

"We always do this," Luo Peng commented with indifference.

For significant events like a New Year’s gala, not only do colleges encourage active student participation but they also invite accomplished alumni and social celebrities to attend – a matter of prestige.

"Respected school leaders, teachers, and students..."

At six o’clock in the afternoon.

Four presenters from the broadcasting department punctually took the stage, two men and two women, dressed in formal attire, articulate and clear-spoken, and all exceptionally attractive.

Following a simple opening speech, the old principal was invited up.

The esteemed principal, although approaching his seventies, was still full of vitality, standing in the beam of light, microphone in hand, his voice deep and powerful.

He began by introducing the guests present.

Without exception, from the titles alone, it was clear that these were all distinguished individuals.

With each name the principal announced, the student body responded with enthusiastic applause.

Jiang Chen was no exception.

"Clap, clap, clap..."

Applause rippled through the auditorium, a sign of high respect for these honored guests.

Suddenly though, upon hearing a name from the principal’s lips, Jiang Chen was taken aback, then couldn’t help but try to peer forward.

But with so many people present, even standing would likely not afford a clear view of those seated at the front.

"I declare the East Sea University 68th New Year’s Eve Gala officially open."

Even after the principal stepped down, Jiang Chen’s expression remained somewhat stiff.

How did Shi Qianxi get here?!

And how did she suddenly become a vice-president at Jin Hai?

Having lain low for some time, Jiang Chen had breathed a sigh of relief, only to be caught off guard by hearing her name at his own school’s New Year’s performance.

There might be many with the same name, but adding "Jin Hai Enterprises" to hers left little room for coincidence.

"What are you daydreaming about?"

Luo Peng noticed that something was off with him, "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing."

Jiang Chen’s expression returned to normal as he pulled out his phone.

Aside from the smiley face he hadn’t replied to, there were no other messages or call logs.

Maybe it was just a coincidence that the school had invited her?

The first act had already begun.

A song and dance performance.

It wasn’t unexpected, but what did surprise Jiang Chen was that it was Xu Siyi and her two friends who were placed in the opening act.

"It’s them..."

Luo Peng gasped.

Black tank tops and black miniskirts outlined their youthful figures beautifully.

Even though he had seen their rehearsal, Jiang Chen found it pleasing to watch them again.

These girls certainly had more than just pretty faces; their dance foundations were solid, their choreography was truly creative, and despite their trio dancing seeming a bit light for such a grand stage, they didn’t let the school down.

With the catchy music, each of their movements matched the beat, as if guiding the audience’s heartbeat. Every step, every frown, every smile radiated a bewitching charm, and the wild swing of their hair released the vitality of youth. Their exposed long creamy legs were incredibly eye-catching, making it hard to look away.

"Newsworthy! Definitely newsworthy!"

Even Luo Peng, a seasoned player in love, had high praise for them.

Cheers and shouts filled the air.

The atmosphere was electric.

Such a dance, if posted online, would undoubtedly attract criticism from many keyboard warriors for its supposed impropriety, but the East Sea University leaders sitting below seemed to enjoy it with a smile.

Youth was, after all, an age that should be allowed to be bold.

Amidst a wave-like uproar of cheers, the sweat-drenched Xu Siyi and her companions bowed and left the stage, their faces blooming with the joy of a successful performance.

After an explosive opening, the students of East Sea University showcased their versatile talents. Just like Eight Immortals crossing the sea, each displayed their own abilities, with performances ranging from refined poetry recitations to the indispensable comedic sketches and cross-talk.

Even...

One of Luo Peng’s former girlfriends, or rather one of his many ex-girlfriends, took the stage with her act.

Young Master Luo indeed had high standards; his former girlfriends were no mere trophies but had substance. Like the girl who had just performed, she was a master of the Chinese zither.

A sophisticated and melodious piece of "High Mountain Flowing Water" left many in the audience utterly captivated.

"Luo Peng, she’s quite something. Why weren’t you satisfied with her?"

Li Shao was curious.

"Ah, don’t be fooled by her demure and graceful appearance, like she’s a lady from a respectful family. It’s not like that at all. She’s too petty. Once I woke up in the middle of the night, guess what I saw? I saw her actually snooping through my phone! Scared the hell out of me!"

Luo Peng looked as if he’d had a close call.

"Luckily she didn’t find anything at the time, otherwise..."

He shuddered at the thought and didn’t dare continue.

"How could I dare to stay with her after that?"

"You can’t blame her for that. If you’d been wholly devoted, would you still be afraid of her going through your phone?"

"That’s not the point. Everyone deserves some privacy, right? I couldn’t accept what she did."

As they spoke, a hostess in a chiffon camisole dress stepped on stage, her smile sweet as she introduced the next act with a clear and melodious voice: "Now, please welcome Ai Qian, a senior from the Management Class 2..."

Ai Qian.

At the mention of this name.

Eyes flickered in various directions in the audience.

Luo Peng stopped reminiscing and nudged Jiang Chen’s shoulder.

"It’s fate."

Indeed it was fate,

All the ex-girlfriends had taken the stage.
