Chapter 228: 225 Strange Properties (Thanks for the tip!)

"I have something to deal with and need to step out."

Jiang Chen put down his phone and said to Li Shuru.

"Will you be back?"

Jiang Chen fell silent for a moment before shaking his head, "I won’t disturb your rest."

Li Shuru didn’t press him for details.

"Take the car."

"No need, I’ll take a taxi."

Jiang Chen stood up, and Li Shuru went downstairs with him.

Zheng Jingjing and the other girls were clearly excited today and were still drinking, so Jiang Chen didn’t go over to say goodbye.

"Tell them later that I left first."

Li Shuru nodded.

Upon leaving the villa, Jiang Chen walked out of Spring and Autumn Plaza and hailed a taxi.

"Right Bars on Dongwang Avenue."

By the time Jiang Chen arrived, Bai Haoran was already waiting at the entrance of the bar.

"Mr. Jiang."

The two met head-on.

"What’s the situation?"

Bai Haoran quickly explained, "I was out playing with friends when I suddenly ran into Miss Shi."

Jiang Chen turned his head towards the parking area.

The Aston Martin quickly caught his eye, very conspicuous. There weren’t many luxury cars around, which indicated that the bar wasn’t very high-end.

Logically, someone of Shi Qianxi’s status wouldn’t frequent a nightclub of this caliber for fun.

"Is she alone?"

"Yes."

Bai Haoran nodded, "I saw she seemed a bit drunk and I was worried something might happen, so I called you, Mr. Jiang."

One had to admit, despite being a rough man, Bai Haoran indeed had a delicate mind.

Jiang Chen twisted his brows, inhaling lightly.

"Lead the way."

Bai Haoran led him into the bar.

The music blasted, a pandemonium of dancing.

Many office workers from day jobs had changed their clothes, becoming completely different people here.

Wading through the crowd, it didn’t take long for Jiang Chen to spot Shi Qianxi, drowning her sorrows alone.

There were already many bottles and jars in front of her, she definitely hadn’t been holding back.

This woman.

What madness is she up to this time?

Jiang Chen didn’t rush over, after all, he had a prior agreement with her mother. He settled down with Bai Haoran at the bar.

"Mr. Jiang, quite a few people have tried hitting on her, but none succeeded."

Jiang Chen noticed that there were many lecherous men around her, eagerly eyeing her, their intentions easy to guess.

Although Miss Shi had a noble identity, she wasn’t a celebrity or public figure. In such a nightclub that mostly catered to ordinary white-collar workers, she wouldn’t be recognized.

"A whiskey, please," Jiang Chen said to the bartender, then he asked Bai Haoran, "Haven’t you seen any bodyguards around her?"

"No."

Bai Haoran responded, "If there were bodyguards, they would have stepped in by now. If she continues to drink like this, it will be difficult for her to leave here on her own tonight."

Jiang Chen of course understood what the other party meant.

This woman.

She really never learns.

Does she really think her face is that well-known?

The bartender pushed over the glass.

Jiang Chen picked it up and took a sip. He really didn’t want to meddle unless absolutely necessary.

Most people who come to bars have ulterior motives; men hunt for beauty, women seek excitement, but it seemed Miss Shi was truly here just to drink, lifting her pale neck from glass to glass, with an air of a fearsome tiger swallowing thousands of miles.

She had previously said she could hold her liquor; it appears it wasn’t an empty boast.

However, given the way she was drinking, even a deity might end up intoxicated. By now, her face was flushed red with a peach-like radiance, undeniably alluring.

One had to admit, putting aside her personality, Shi Qianxi had a certain attraction to men.

Especially her innate nobility, something the common garishness of the bar couldn’t compare to.

Yet, for a woman, especially a single woman, to stand out too much in a murky nightclub is certainly not a good thing.

"Those two guys tried to hit on her earlier."

Following Bai Haoran’s words, Jiang Chen saw two lecherous men team up and head towards Shi Qianxi.

"Get lost!"

Miss Shi was as domineering as ever, repelling them without even raising her head.

"Beautiful, don’t be so hot-tempered, we just want to offer you a drink," the persistent men said, exchanging a glance as they worked in cahoots, one distracting Shi Qianxi with chatter while the other secretly took a bag of unknown powder from his pocket, slipping it into her drink on the table when she wasn’t looking.

Jiang Chen, having witnessed everything, slightly furrowed his brows.

Even without using one’s behind, one could guess it was definitely not anything good.

A man can be shameless and thick-skinned, but he shouldn’t be despicable.

"Are you going to get lost, or should I call security?" Miss Shi, icy and aloof, was drunk but not completely so.

The two lecherous men, seemingly reluctantly, had no choice but to leave, yet the moment they turned around, their faces revealed a malicious grin.

"Brother Bai."

Jiang Chen spoke up.

Without needing his instructions, Bai Haoran had already stood up and headed to a distant table.

That table must be his friends’, and quickly, four or five menacing men who clearly weren’t pushovers cornered the two unscrupulous lechers.

"Buddy, you’re playing quite the game, huh?"

The two lechers sensed trouble was brewing.

"What are you trying to do?"

"Nothing much, you guys wanted some excitement, right? We happen to know a few black brothers who should be able to satisfy you."

The two bastards’ faces went pale with fear, but before they could react, they were suddenly grabbed from both sides and forcibly taken away.

Jiang Chen walked toward Shi Qianxi, only to see that she was already lifting the glass, so he had to grab her wrist.

"Stop drinking."

Perhaps the music in the bar was too noisy, or perhaps her consciousness was already blurred, Shi Qianxi completely failed to hear Jiang Chen’s voice.

The lady indeed had a fierce side to her; sensing someone touching her, she didn’t even look up before her left hand swiftly swung up, aiming a slap at Jiang Chen’s face.

Jiang Chen wasn’t meeting this girl for the first time. He still vividly remembered Ruan Guang’s miserable state at the night market behind the school, so he had anticipated this and quickly caught Shi Qianxi’s left wrist.

Only then did Shi Qianxi lift her head.

As she clearly saw who it was, those drunken eyes visibly wavered.

"What are you doing here?"

Seeing that the woman recognized him, Jiang Chen finally let go of her hand.

"Just passing by."

Shi Qianxi zoned out for a moment, then sneered dismissively, reeking of alcohol, "Didn’t you say you didn’t want to bother with me? So why get involved with my affairs? Move aside, don’t interrupt my drinking."

She went to pick up the glass again.

"You really think that just because you’re the Shi family’s young miss, nobody dares to touch you? Who here knows you? Where’s your bodyguard?"

"What’s it to you."

Jiang Chen actually didn’t want to get involved, but as a contemporary youth with higher education, he ultimately couldn’t resist the call of his conscience.

"I told you to stop drinking!"

He snatched the glass and smashed it to the ground.

"Bang!"

The glass shattered into pieces.

"What the hell are you doing?!"

Miss Shi leaped up, glaring furiously.

The commotion attracted the attention of many nearby patrons.

The bar security, sensing a potential conflict, was about to intervene, but Bai Haoran stopped them and said something.

"How long are you going to be reckless? As a woman, getting dead drunk in a place like this, have you thought about the consequences?"

"I know my limits!"

"You know your limits."

Jiang Chen laughed coldly, the smile not reaching his eyes.

"Then do you know that those two guys before slipped something into your drink?"

Shi Qianxi’s anger halted momentarily, and she looked down at the broken glass.

"If you’d drunk that, did you consider the consequences? Is this your idea of limits?"

Shi Qianxi bit her lip, remaining silent.

"Call your bodyguard so they can take you home."

"I won’t."

Jiang Chen frowned, about to speak, but the woman with her head bowed mumbled, "I don’t have a home anymore."

"What do you mean?"

Shi Qianxi collapsed back into the sofa, a self-deprecating laugh escaping her lips.

"My dad and mom are divorcing. I won’t have a home anymore."

Jiang Chen was taken aback, the anger gradually dissipating, falling into silence.

He also sat down opposite her.

Even though the woman was capricious and troublesome, she wouldn’t joke about such matters.

"Can you drink with me for a bit?"

Shi Qianxi looked at him, her previously prickly demeanor suddenly turned fragile.

"Even if you drink yourself into oblivion, it won’t change the reality."

Jiang Chen didn’t know how to comfort her,

It seemed that there was no way to offer solace in such situations.

"But that way, I can stop thinking about it."

Shi Qianxi murmured, "Jiang Chen, you tell me, despite my family being so wealthy, envied by countless people, why can’t they just stay together?"

"Who told you money guarantees lifelong companionship? For the poor, money is a luxury, but for the rich, it’s just another form of love. I think you shouldn’t be too upset; if they made this decision, it must be after careful consideration. Separating is probably the best for both of them. Now that you’re an adult, don’t you want your parents to be happy?"

Shi Qianxi stared blankly, "...How come everything sounds reasonable when you say it?"

"I’m just stating the facts."

Jiang Chen urged, "Hurry up and call your bodyguard."

"I don’t want to."

Shi Qianxi shook her head quickly, "I finally managed to ditch them."

Jiang Chen was at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

No wonder.

No wonder this young mistress had come to such a low-class nightspot.

Turns out she deliberately didn’t want to be found.

"Miss Shi, next time you decide to throw a tantrum, please at least consider your own safety first. If I hadn’t shown up earlier, you might have regretted tonight’s impulsiveness for the rest of your life."

"Jiang Chen, didn’t you agree with my mom not to deal with me anymore? I know you must still care about me."

Shi Qianxi revealed that eerily obsessed smile again, as her strange personality seemed to flare up once more.

"I simply don’t want my conscience to trouble me, don’t overthink it. I’d help regardless of who it was," Jiang Chen asserted firmly.

Truly a man of steel.

Shi Qianxi watched him, her eyes trembling, the smile slowly fading as she bowed her head in silence.

"Then you can leave."

Jiang Chen furrowed his brows.

"Don’t worry, I won’t drink anymore, I just want to sit here a bit longer."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Chen, indeed, didn’t persist any further but actually got up and left on his own.
