Chapter 213: 213 Beating the mandarin ducks
"Jiang Chen, I heard that you bumped into Ruan Guang at the night market last night?"
Right after class, Luo Peng hooked his arm around Jiang Chen’s.
"And there was a stunning beauty there too?"
"Who told you that?"
"Zhang Chong, he told me during class just now. He happened to pass by and saw Ruan Guang’s head all smashed up, and an ambulance had to come. What happened?"
Luo Peng smacked his lips.
"Not even introducing me to that beauty, that’s not cool. You’re all set now, but I’m still single."
"That lady, you’re better off not knowing her."
"Why?"
"You know how Ruan Guang’s head got smashed? She did it. If it weren’t for me holding her back, it might have been a hearse coming for the body instead of an ambulance."
"Holy shit, that fierce?"
Luo Peng was shocked.
Jiang Chen just smiled and said nothing.
Is this surprising to you?
If you knew that the young miss could just throw away diamonds worth hundreds of millions as if they were nothing, you would probably be so shocked you’d sit right down on the ground.
Some women are indeed not something an ordinary man can handle.
Luo Peng might have been a Casanova, but compared to that witch, he was definitely out of his league.
The two walked out of the lecture hall.
"Are you Jiang Chen?"
A man in a suit, looking stern, came over.
"He is."
Jiang Chen glanced at the man, then pointed towards Luo Peng without a second thought.
Luo Peng was startled, not quite catching on.
Jiang Chen picked up the pace, but the man was unfazed by his trick, simply stepping to block the way with ease.
"My boss wants to see you, please come with me."
His tone was polite, but his eyes left no room for argument.
"What do you do?"
Luo Peng was wary.
But the man ignored him completely.
"It’s nothing."
Realizing he couldn’t get away, Jiang Chen reassured Luo Peng.
Although the man in the suit didn’t look the same, his demeanor was strikingly similar to the bodyguard who had appeared beside Shi Qianxi last night.
You can dodge on the first, but you can’t avoid the fifteenth.
"No worries, I’ll be right back."
He handed his books to Luo Peng.
"..."
Luo Peng, perplexed, could only watch as Jiang Chen and the man in the suit left and got into a black Audi.
The Audi drove out of Dong University.
Sitting alone in the back seat, Jiang Chen was not nervous, at least not outwardly. Looking out the window, he seemed very calm, very composed.
He was sure Shi Qianxi wouldn’t have let out the kidnapping, otherwise it wouldn’t have been a suit-and-tie bodyguard making such a public approach.
Once inside the car, he kept quiet, didn’t ask any questions, and the bodyguard cum driver said nothing as he drove in silence.
Twenty minutes later, the Audi stopped in front of a coffee shop that was not too secluded.
Jiang Chen followed the bodyguard up to the second floor, breathing a sigh of relief to himself.
The coffee shop had plenty of customers, so there was at least no need to fear a scene where eight hundred axe-wielding men would charge out on a signal.
"Madam, the guest has arrived."
The bodyguard stopped by a table near the window and bowed respectfully.
Following behind, Jiang Chen stopped as well and his gaze instinctively fell on the woman sitting there.
A wealthy lady.
Apart from the movies and news, he had indeed seen one in real life: Sun Xiyu’s mother.
This woman, who looked to be in her thirties, didn’t have the same glitter and glamor as Sun Xiyu’s mother and was dressed casually, yet when she looked his way, she exerted an even more intense pressure.
Jiang Chen noticed that she quickly scanned him up and down, then gave the bodyguard a nonchalant nod.
The bodyguard turned and left.
"Please, have a seat."
She gestured towards the seat opposite her.
Jiang Chen didn’t stand on ceremony and quickly took a seat.
"What would you like to drink?"
Instead of saying "Anything," Jiang Chen asked, "What are you drinking?"
This was the first thing he said since his arrival.
Meng Meiling was caught off guard by his opener, visibly taken aback, and then, her lips curved into a slight smile.
"A Sidamo sun-dried, would you like a cup?"
Sidamo sun-dried?
He seemed to have never even heard of it.
Jiang Chen didn’t feel inferior about his ignorance, nor did he just nod along.
"A glass of plain water will do," he said.
Meng Meiling observed him for a moment, then called the waiter over.
"A glass of plain water."
"Certainly, please wait a moment."
The waiter turned and left, and Meng Meiling spoke softly, "Do you need to introduce yourself?"
Jiang Chen replied with a smile, "Seeing is believing; auntie, you possess even more grace than I had imagined."
Flattery will get you everywhere.
No matter the reason she had sought him out or what her agenda might be, easing the atmosphere was definitely harmless.
"Since you know who I am, let’s not beat around the bush. I think you’re smart enough to speak plainly."
Meng Meiling didn’t seem moved by Jiang Chen’s compliment.
"I know the fault doesn’t lie with you, but this mistake can’t continue. Do you understand what I’m saying?"
Jiang Chen kind of got it, but then again, maybe not so much.
After all, Shi Qianxi hadn’t communicated with him at all up until now, and he had no idea what that woman and her parents had told each other.
So, after pondering for a moment, Jiang Chen prudently shook his head.
"...Auntie, I might not fully understand."
Meng Meiling didn’t get angry; she took a sip of her coffee gracefully and composedly.
"Since you don’t understand, I’ll put it more directly. No matter what has happened between you and Qian Qian in the past, I hope starting from today, you can cut ties completely."
Jiang Chen was taken aback.
Wait a minute.
This seemed like a scene straight out of a film or television drama, where the parents of the wealthy family try to break up a couple.
But then.
His heart leaped with joy.
Wasn’t cutting ties with that miss precisely what he had longed for?
"Auntie, coming to me won’t solve anything; the key lies with Miss Shi. You know her temperament," Jiang Chen said, stopping just short of spilling everything, speaking his honest truth.
He would love to have nothing to do with her forever, but he was completely powerless in the matter.
What was said from the heart to Jiang Chen might have a different meaning when heard by Meng Meiling.
Students from Dong University are generally regarded as exceptionally intelligent.
They say that finding a good partner can save decades of struggle, and getting close to the Shi Family could mean a lifetime of inexhaustible wealth and luxury.
Aside from a fool, who would give up such a life-altering opportunity?
"Your water."
The waiter set down the crystal-clear glass.
Jiang Chen politely expressed his thanks.
"We will handle things with Qian Qian," Meng Meiling said, still showing no sign of irritation. If the young man had agreed without a second thought, that would have been cause for concern.
She calmly took out a bank card that seemed to have been prepared in advance, placed it on the table, and then pushed it towards Jiang Chen.
"There’s one million in this card, the password is Qian Qian’s birthday. It’s yours if you agree," she stated.
Jiang Chen was dumbfounded, instinctively wanting to look around to see if there were any hidden cameras.
This development.
It really did have the flavor of a melodramatic wealthy family urban romance drama.
