Chapter 146: 146 It’s meant for you
"Luo Peng, what do you want to eat? I’ll get it for you."
Taking advantage of the lull after the rush hour, Bai Zheli planned to head to the cafeteria.
Lying on his bed, Luo Peng was on his phone, chatting with someone, it seemed.
"No need, I’m on a diet recently."
"Although love hasn’t favored you, you still have to eat, Luo Peng. Being trapped by love is not your style, you need to pull yourself together!"
Seated in front of the computer, the dorm leader Li Shao joked, "Come on, play a game. I’ll go with Rockman."
"Not playing, call Jiang Chen."
Not long after Bai Zheli left, Luo Peng’s phone rang.
He sat up abruptly, as if resurrected from the dead, startling Jiang Chen and Li Shao who were in the middle of a chat.
"What’s wrong?"
Jiang Chen looked at him curiously.
Luo Peng quickly made a silencing gesture and then, putting on a show, straightened himself up and cleared his throat. When he placed the phone to his ear, his tone was suddenly incredibly tender.
"Luo Junior."
Li Shao was startled, involuntarily exchanging glances with Jiang Chen.
"Okay, I’ll be right down."
Whatever was said on the other end, Luo Peng acted as though he had been injected with excitement; after ending the call, he leaped out of bed and started preening in front of the mirror.
"Luo Li’er?"
Li Shao asked tentatively.
"My charm is indeed irresistible."
Tugging his hair left and right, Luo Peng was still not quite satisfied with how it looked. "Jiang Chen, hurry and borrow some hair gel from next door."
Jiang Chen felt an odd sensation inside.
It seemed it really was Luo Li’er.
No other girl could get Luo Peng this excited.
His lips moved as if to say something, but in the end he didn’t. Instead, Jiang Chen went to the dorm next door and borrowed a bottle of hair gel.
After hastily fixing his hair, Luo Peng, worried about making someone wait, didn’t linger with Jiang Chen and Li Shao and quickly left. He ran down the stairs.
But just before stepping out of the dorm building, he deliberately slowed down his pace, adjusted his breathing, and put on an air of composure.
Next to the boys’ dormitory, on the tree-lined path, Luo Li’er was fidgeting with her hands, pacing back and forth.
"Luo Junior."
Approaching her, Luo Peng smiled softly and tenderly, his hair gel still not quite dry.
Luo Li’er quickly turned around, and upon seeing Luo Peng, her delicate youthful face immediately brightened with happiness, then she moved quickly toward him.
Life was just so unexpected, a reversal of fortunes.
Just when I was about to give up, suddenly there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, a turn for the better.
Feeling a thousand emotions, Luo Peng kept the same smiling face and asked with concern, "You haven’t eaten yet, have you?"
Luo Li’er shook her head.
"That’s perfect, I haven’t eaten either. You probably rarely come here, the restaurant on the second floor of the East Sea Fourth Cafeteria has good food..."
Luo Peng kindly suggested.
But Luo Li’er wasn’t there to eat with him.
"I’m not hungry."
Luo Peng’s tone faltered briefly but stayed gracefully composed, "It’s fine, then shall we go for a walk?"
Luo Li’er hesitated, as if she had a delicate issue to discuss, and her universally appealing baby face was tinged with a hint of embarrassment.
"... Actually, I have a favor to ask of you, Luo Senior."
In the end, Luo Li’er still clenched her hands and mustered the courage to speak.
Luo Peng, without bearing a grudge, seemed completely unaffected by being blocked previously and all those prior warnings, and declared magnanimously, "Just say it. Whether it’s climbing the highest mountain or diving into the deepest sea, I, Luo Peng, am willing to..."
"It’s not that serious."
Luo Li’er quickly interrupted, biting her lip, "Luo Senior, could you ask Jiang Chen Senior to come down?"
Luo Peng was immediately taken aback, his expression freezing on the spot.
"Jiang Chen?"
Luo Li’er nodded.
Luo Peng was speechless, his mind a mess.
"Is he in the dorm?"
Luo Li’er asked tentatively.
Under that gaze, Luo Peng, despite himself, nodded.
Luo Li’er stopped talking and just stared at him eagerly, the meaning couldn’t be more obvious.
Luo Peng steadied his nerves and suppressed the turmoil within, "May I ask, what do you need him for?"
Luo Li’er remained silent.
"He’s in the dorm. I’ll go call him."
In the end, Luo Peng still showed the grace of a man, squeezing out a smile more painful than crying, he turned and walked toward the dormitory building, his silhouette so desolate and forlorn.
"How come you’re back so soon?"
Seeing him enter, Li Shao, who had been gossiping with Jiang Chen, was full of astonishment.
Devoid of his earlier exuberance, and only minutes after descending the stairs, Luo Peng was like a deflated balloon, his spirits instantly gone.
"Jiang Chen, Luo Li’er is looking for you."
He said in a weak voice, his gaze towards Jiang Chen extra "resentful."
Not just Jiang Chen, even Li Shao was taken aback.
"Looking for me?"
Facing Li Shao’s surprised look, Jiang Chen also seemed somewhat unexpected.
Luo Peng nodded, speaking in a strange tone he’d never used before, he muttered, "Go quickly, don’t keep her waiting."
Jiang Chen’s lips moved, but he didn’t know what to say, and left the dormitory filled with confusion.
What’s going on?
Li Shao’s face was filled with question marks.
"Senior Jiang!"
As soon as Jiang Chen stepped out of the dormitory building, Luo Li’er, who had been watching, immediately waved at him.
The passing students around all looked shocked.
Jiang Chen quickly walked over to her.
"If you’re here to say thanks, there’s no need."
The only reason he could think of for Luo Li’er to seek him out was because of last night’s incident.
He was not like Luo Peng, not the least bit overawed by the attention, he even felt a bit of a headache and just wanted to send the most famous freshman sister away as quickly as possible.
"Say thanks?"
Luo Li’er paused, then quickly said, "I’m not here to say thanks."
"Then what are you here for?"
Jiang Chen looked at her oddly.
"I need your help with something."
Upon hearing this.
Jiang Chen’s expression became even stranger.
He was not like Luo Peng, who didn’t even ask what the matter was before flatly refusing, "I won’t help."
Luo Li’er was stunned. She probably hadn’t expected him to be so outright in his refusal.
Perhaps realizing his response wasn’t very gentlemanly, Jiang Chen then added, "Whatever you need, you should seek help from someone else, Luo Peng would be suitable, he’d surely be willing."
"That won’t do."
Luo Li’er looked at him firmly, and though she had been somewhat uncertain before, his attitude only solidified her resolve.
"No one else can help with this, it has to be you."
Jiang Chen fell silent.
He was a bit confused.
Not about what kind of help she needed.
But rather, is this how one asks for help?
Is this the attitude of someone seeking a favor?
"Junior Luo, we’re just fellow students, I don’t think I’m obligated to help you, right?"
Jiang Chen felt it necessary to clarify.
The other party was a contender for the school belle, likely to become the first female representative of beauty in East Sea University’s history, spoiled by those fawning over her. It was completely understandable.
"Senior Jiang, have you forgotten something?"
Luo Li’er was confident enough to be so decisive at Yao Bifu’s, not minding Jiang Chen’s somewhat hurtful words, and so she reminded him.
"Last time, you hit me with your car and sent me to the infirmary. You said I could come to you for anything."
"..."
Jiang Chen’s eye twitched, looking at that innocent, naive face, and remained speechless for a long time.
