Chapter 125: 125 Fire and Theft Prevention
After hanging up the phone, Ruan Guang couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Human nature is just like that, only focusing on the imminent troubles and not thinking too much about the long-term woes.
Having received Liang Zhenlun’s promise, Ruan Guang now felt that he had escaped a disaster.
"Give me three days, and I will pay you back the money."
Back in the office, Ruan Guang regained some confidence; since he had to pay back the money anyway, there was no need to grovel anymore.
"Three days? Trying to weasel out of it, huh?"
Luo Peng raised an eyebrow.
"Luo Peng, watch your language. If you don’t see the money in three days, just call the police, are you afraid I’ll run away or something!"
Ruan Guang clenched his fists, struggling to contain his anger.
Though he had avoided his family finding out, it was still a real sum of more than four hundred thousand yuan. Even if Liang Zhenlun found a way to help him out, the money still had to be repaid.
He had never considered how he would fill this monetray void in the future.
"Three days is not too long. What do you think, Jiang Chen?"
The head of the security department spoke up, looking at Jiang Chen with eyes clearly conveying a message.
Spare others when you have the chance.
"Okay."
Jiang Chen nodded, not being overly aggressive.
"Alright then. In three days, at this same time, both parties come to my office and we’ll settle this matter once and for all."
With mediation from the head of security, the storm had temporarily calmed down.
"Bang."
When Ruan Guang left, he slammed the door loudly.
"Serves him right. Jiang Chen, you should have called the police. This bastard always bullied others by flaunting his strength, he deserves a harsh lesson."
Luo Peng, walking out of the office, looked at Ruan Guang’s quickly receding figure with schadenfreude, his mouth curled with undisguised scorn.
Although the matter seemed to have been resolved fairly, he was still somewhat dissatisfied. In his opinion, sending Ruan Guang to jail would be truly serving justice and making everyone happy.
"We’re all alumni, there’s no need to be so harsh. Plus, you saw the attitude of the head of security. If we continue to make a fuss, it won’t look good for the school either."
Hearing this, Luo Peng nodded, "You have a point. With so much money, it should be enough for Ruan Guang to learn his lesson."
Exiting the administrative building, Jiang Chen’s phone started to ring.
He took it out and saw it was Liang Zhenlun calling.
"You go ahead."
Luo Peng didn’t say much, nodded, and left on his own.
Jiang Chen picked up the phone and answered.
"Senior Jiang, is it convenient to talk?"
"Yeah, what’s up?"
"Senior Jiang, did you get into a conflict with Ruan Guang?"
Liang Zhenlun’s probing voice came from the other end.
Jiang Chen was taken aback, inevitably surprised, "How did you know?"
"He just called me asking to borrow four hundred thousand."
Liang Zhenlun quickly explained.
Jiang Chen suddenly understood.
So the call Ruan Guang made earlier wasn’t to his family; no wonder he said he needed three days.
"Did you lend it to him?"
"How could I? I’m just an average friend to him, and I don’t have that much money on hand either."
To this day, in the presence of Jiang Chen, Liang Zhenlun was quite candid without putting on the airs of a rich second generation, speaking quite frankly.
"He just agreed to pay compensation. If it wasn’t your money, where did his come from?"
Liang Zhenlun laughed.
"Although I didn’t lend him any money, I did think of a solution for him. I introduced him to Bai Haoran."
"Bai Haoran?"
"Yeah, Ruan Guang is not a good guy, always bullying people around him at school, bullying the weak and fearing the strong. He never thought he would end up offending you, Senior Jiang. It’s about time he learns his lesson. Loan sharking is basically Bai Haoran’s main business. If Ruan Guang really borrows from him, heh, he’ll have plenty to pay back later."
Liang Zhenlun was indeed a shrewd operator, never missing an opportunity to display his savvy.
It was obvious that, despite seemingly helping Ruan Guang, he actually lured the other party into a deep pit.
Has anyone involved with high-interest loans ever met with a good end?
Jiang Chen was well aware that Liang Zhenlun did this to curry favor with him, but he remained silent, neither supporting nor opposing.
Ruan Guang was an adult, and he should be responsible for his own choices and pay the price.
"Jiang Chen."
Suddenly.
Someone patted him on the shoulder from behind.
The voice came through the phone, and Liang Zhenlun immediately said with understanding, "Senior Jiang, then I’ll hang up first."
Jiang Chen turned around to see the girl standing in front of him with a graceful figure and asked in surprise, "How come you haven’t left yet?"
The other party frowned her delicate brows.
"Ah, how can you be so pragmatic? Right, use me and then turn your back on me once you’re done?"
This girl was none other than Xu Siyi, who had come to deliver the invoice not long ago.
"You’ve worked hard, beautiful Xu."
Realizing his mistake, Jiang Chen promptly expressed his gratitude.
"Just saying it doesn’t show any sincerity. Jin Jin didn’t want to come, you know how tiring it is to walk here from the girls’ dorm?"
Jiang Chen unconsciously looked down and couldn’t help but chuckle wryly.
Not feeling tired in high heels would be strange; didn’t she know to change her shoes before going out?
"So tell me, how should I thank you?"
Jiang Chen looked up.
There was a flicker of triumphant slyness in Xu Siyi’s sparkling eyes, as if she had been waiting for just that question.
"It’s almost five o’clock now, and I haven’t eaten yet..."
She said deliberately in a murmur.
Getting the hint, Jiang Chen said, "To thank beautiful Xu for the trouble of bringing the invoice here, let’s go, I’ll treat you to a meal."
"That’s more like it."
Xu Siyi gave him a look, her allure spilling over, captivating.
If Li Shuru could be considered an internally charming person, then her dormmate and good sister was definitely the externally fervent type.
"Let’s go."
Jiang Chen turned to leave, but before he had taken a few steps, he was called back, "Where are you going?"
He turned to see Xu Siyi still standing there, not having moved an inch.
"Aren’t we going to eat?"
"You’re not planning to take me to the cafeteria to eat, are you?"
Xu Siyi’s expression was peculiar.
Jiang Chen was not a stingy person, and that had been the case even before.
There’s a concept to be clear about: being poor and stingy are two different things, and one should not equate them. If Jiang Chen were truly a penny-pincher, Luo Peng would not have such a good relationship with him.
Since it was his treat, he certainly wouldn’t be so shabby as to take her to the cafeteria. He explained, "The school has restaurants as well."
"I don’t want that."
Xu Siyi stood her ground, "Since you’re thanking me, shouldn’t I get to pick the place?"
Jiang Chen was at a loss for words, as she had given him no room to choose.
"If it’s too expensive, I can’t afford it."
Xu Siyi laughed, teasing him, "Don’t worry, I promise it won’t be over six thousand."
Jiang Chen could only laugh in response.
"Let’s go!"
Xu Siyi hurried over in her high heels clacking, and whether it was because of Li Shuru or not thinking of him as an outsider, or perhaps unintentionally, she actually grabbed his arm and pulled Jiang Chen towards the school gate.
Even though he felt it was a bit inappropriate, Jiang Chen didn’t try to forcefully break free.
They stopped a taxi at the school gate.
"Get in."
Xu Siyi pushed him into the taxi, then followed and sat down.
"Driver, to Bin Hai Park."
