Chapter 1058: 741 Family Bucket

"You were doing just fine, why resign?"

East Sea, remarkably different in pace of life from the metropolis.

Returning to her hometown, Fang Qing inevitably invited old friends for a meal, choosing Tie Jun’s barbecue joint.

"I just got tired of it all. I’d been in Capital City for four years through college, and wanted a change of scenery."

In response to Fu Zili’s puzzlement, Fang Qing was nonchalant as she picked up a skewer, "Oh, right, I haven’t told my parents yet; you all better not let it slip."

"Why keep it from your aunt and uncle?"

Tie Jun, the owner himself, joined in on the company. Since opening, his barbecue joint thrived, especially with "big bro" Fu Zili’s patronage, allowing Tie Jun to fully staff his place without the need to enter the kitchen, generally just handling the cashier duties.

Raking in big bucks was out of the question, but relying on this barbecue joint was enough to live quite comfortably in a small place like Sha City.

"Do I even need to explain? Better to spare them the worry."

Fu Zili caught on, then laughingly suggested, "Qing Gege, why don’t you join my team? As for salary, as long as it’s not outrageous, I’ll do my best to meet it."

"Oh? Boss Fu, you’re becoming quite impressive now, offering positions suitable for Qing Gege?"

Tie Jun teased.

"You don’t understand. My trip to Capital City and East Sea had inspired me—I was far too shallow before."

Fu Zili reflected, "No matter the industry, to scale up and grow strong, the first step is systematic planning, and I need talents versed in law like Fang Qing."

"Qing Gege, if Boss Fu is serious, you might really want to consider it. After all, he’s made the offer—it’s easy work, good money, and close to home. Why not?"

Tie Jun winked; the man, once a soldier now running his life’s business, momentarily revived glimpses of his boyhood charm.

"I don’t come cheap."

Fang Qing played along with the joke.

"Name your price."

Fu Zili was straightforward and generously spirited, which, when paired with the LV men’s wallet on the table, stood out quite a bit in a place like Sha City.

"Qing Gege, Boss Fu’s loaded, just name it."

Tie Jun fanned the flames.

Fang Qing raised her glass. The adage ’once bitten, twice shy’ held truth, but that didn’t mean she had to abstain altogether. Fu Zili did suggest having some spirits before the meal, yet she opted for a craft beer instead.

"First you tell me, how much did you earn today?"

Fang Qing kicked the ball back into his court.

"A few small goals?" Tie Jun seized the opportunity to dig deeper.

Having been outside, Fu Zili’s perspective had indeed changed, not as ostentatious as last year, he self-mockingly said with a smile, "What’s the market like this year, you both know. The broader environment is tough, your kind of street economy might be okay, but it hits us hard. Just not losing is good enough."

"Boss Fu, not being forthcoming, are we? There are no strangers here, I promise, I definitely won’t ask for a loan, and I’m sure Fang Qing won’t either."

"What about your wife?"

Fu Zili suddenly asked.

"She’s at work, on the evening shift today."

Tie Jun replied unthinkingly; his wife, Wen Rong, was a nurse, whose evening shift meant working late into the night.

"When she’s here, I definitely need to have a good chat with her about your childhood glory days."

Tie Jun responded with a resigned laugh, "Boss Fu, you better think it through. It wasn’t easy for me to find a wife—if you scare her away, I’ll blame you for a lifetime."

Fang Qing couldn’t help but laugh.

Though small, Sha City offered a feeling never to be matched by the most bustling of foreign lands.

"Look at you, didn’t you use to declare you’d marry a star?"

Fu Zili lifted his glass.

Tie Jun clinked his glass with Fu Zili’s, heaving a sheepish sigh, "Youthful ambition, unaware of the immensity of the sky and the earth."

Fu Zili took a sip and smiled, "You’re doing quite well now. Run this for a couple more years, open a few chain stores, and by then you can be a content little boss like An Le, then I’d have to envy you."

"Blessed words. You all keep striving to soar; if ever you’re tired or flagging, I’ll forever be here waiting in this nest."

"You’re making me tear up."

Fang Qing, who hadn’t had it all smooth sailing either, initiated a toast, "Down the hatch."

The three childhood friends shared this drink.

"Just missing Jiang Chen. Is he coming back this year?"

Tie Jun inquired.

Fu Zili shook his head, "I don’t know; you should ask Fang Qing."

"His body might not be here, but his soul has always been."

Fang Qing didn’t respond directly, her words carrying a philosophical weight.

Fu Zili and Tie Jun paused, then glanced at each other, somewhat taken aback. Although grown up and scattered, the infrequency of their gatherings did nothing to the depth of their mutual understanding.

Tie Jun might still be fine, but Fu Zili instantly sensed something off.

Normally, Fang Qing wouldn’t be speaking on behalf of Jiang Chen without adding an insult to the injury.

"Have you seen Jiang Chen recently?"

Fu Zili, who had previously enticed her to East Sea, asked probing.

"I saw him a few times when he was in Capital City for business."

Fang Qing replied without showing any change in expression.

"What’s Jiang Chen doing now?"

The last time they were in East Sea, like Fang Qing, the youngest of the Three Musketeers, Jiang Chen, hadn’t graduated yet. But even then, Fu Zili had already witnessed how much he had changed.

Fang Qing glanced at Tie Jun. When dealing with friends, she wouldn’t lie about trivial matters.

"He’s pretty much in the same business as you two."

Both Fu Zili and Tie Jun were surprised again.

"He’s running a barbecue joint too?" Tie Jun asked.

"He’s also in the food and entertainment industry."

Fang Qing gave a vague answer. After hearing about it from Tong Dan, she also looked up the Apang Palace online—while she hadn’t visited the place in person, the descriptions online corroborated that Tong Dan’s praises hadn’t been exaggerated.
