Chapter 103: 103 Invitation

Although it wasn’t the first time he had "slept" with Li Shuru, the circumstances last time were naturally incomparable to the present.

Jiang Chen didn’t even sit on the bed, standing within the room and watching the national soccer team’s match on the television.

The sound of the hairdryer roared from the bathroom.

His eyes were on the television, but Jiang Chen’s attention was clearly elsewhere, his constantly shifting gaze betraying his unease.

No man is a saint.

Who doesn’t have desires and emotions?

Jiang Chen had never thought of himself as particularly noble, just that he had a bit more restraint than the average person.

But now, his restraint was being severely tested.

Finally.

The noise of the hairdryer ceased, and Li Shuru came out wearing the hotel’s disposable white slippers and a flimsy bathrobe, her well-proportioned slender legs partially visible with her every step.

The night was deep and quiet.

A man and a woman alone together.

And dressed so scantily at that.

It was almost unbearable.

"Are you really not going to take a shower?"

Li Shuru seemed to see nothing wrong with the situation, as if she had granted Jiang Chen the highest level of trust.

Jiang Chen shook his head, trying to stay calm and avoid looking at her.

"You go to bed first, I’ll watch TV for a while."

Li Shuru glanced at the replaying match as well.

"What’s so interesting about the national team?"

"This match is against Oman, there’s still some suspense."

"Oman? Is there such a country?"

"Of course, their total population is over three million."

"..."

Li Shuru fell silent, kicked off her slippers, climbed onto the bed, pulled back the covers, and wrapped herself in them, sitting up in bed.

Jiang Chen let out a silent sigh of relief.

The room quieted down, leaving only the sound of the TV.

After about fifteen minutes, Jiang Chen sneaked a look back, only to be startled.

"Why haven’t you fallen asleep yet?"

He had thought that Li Shuru was already asleep, considering there was no movement from her, but to his surprise, she was leaning against the headboard, eyes open, seemingly without a hint of sleepiness, as if she were keeping him company, watching the match.

Li Shuru, turning a deaf ear, asked, "Is the team in red the national team?"

"Mhm."

"How come I haven’t seen them take a shot at goal?"

That’s a question I’d like to know too.

Jiang Chen clearly did not have the capacity to answer such a profound question and urged, "There’s nothing good to watch, it’s late, you should sleep now."

"What about you?"

Li Shuru’s gaze shifted from the TV to his face.

Jiang Chen’s heartbeat quickened, but he pretended to be calm on the outside, "I’m not sleepy yet, you go to sleep first."

"But the TV is so loud, how can I sleep?"

"Then I’ll turn the sound off."

Jiang Chen picked up the remote and muted the TV.

"I don’t like to sleep with the lights on."

Li Shuru immediately made another request.

Jiang Chen, ever considerate, complied, turning off the main lights and leaving only the dim light strips, as well as the glow from the TV screen.

The atmosphere, unseen, had become even more suggestive.

Jiang Chen, who had resigned himself to making do with a night in the chair, thought she would now settle down to sleep, but Li Shuru instead sat on the edge of the bed, showing no intention of lying down.

"Aren’t you... going to sleep?"

He ventured.

"You sleep first, I’m not sleepy yet."

"..."

A line of frustration appeared on Jiang Chen’s forehead.

If he could sleep, he would have done so already.

Seemingly noticing his hesitation, Li Shuru suddenly scooted over, freeing up half the bed.

"If you’re tired, go ahead and sleep first."

"..."

Jiang Chen was indeed somewhat bewildered.

By the looks of it, this girl didn’t seem to be joking; she really planned to share a bed with him.

He had no idea what was going through her mind.

Was she really not afraid of inviting a wolf into the den, of kindling a blazing fire?

This belle of the arts college truly seemed to have no sense of danger, her plain face and those slightly luminous eyes were reflected in the dim light from the television screen.

Seeing him standing there silently, Li Shuru slowly turned her head, her gaze filled with confusion.

Jiang Chen had intended to say he would make do with sleeping in the chair for the night, but when the words reached his lips, he couldn’t quite bring himself to say them.

What was he being so bashful about?

If a girl wasn’t afraid, what was he, afraid of a football match?

He wanted to leap onto the bed like a hungry tiger, to scare her, but he ultimately couldn’t bring himself to do such a thing.

"I’ll go take a bath first."

Exhaling, Jiang Chen quickly walked to the bathroom.

"Click."

The door closed.

Li Shuru, who from beginning to end seemed calm and collected, blushed quietly as she watched the football match on the television.

Girls are said to take long baths, but Jiang Chen took even longer than Li Shuru, dawdling for more than twenty minutes in the bathroom. It was easy to start thinking he might be doing something unspeakable with the girl’s clothes.

When he came out, there was a slight hope in Jiang Chen’s heart that maybe Li Shuru had fallen asleep, but instead she was sitting on the bed in the same posture she had been when he went in.

"2 to 0."

The match seemed to have finished.

"Normal."

Jiang Chen was not surprised.

The national football team has a special trait, that is no matter how shocking or outrageous the news, when it’s related to them, it becomes no longer surprising.

"The national team is down 2."

Li Shuru added.

Jiang Chen was stunned.

"I’m just kidding."

Jiang Chen chuckled awkwardly.

Li Shuru looked at him, dressed neatly, "Are you planning to sleep just like that?"

Jiang Chen nonchalantly replied, "You don’t like sleeping with the light on, I don’t like sleeping without my clothes."

"..."

This time it was Li Shuru who fell silent.

"When you sleep with Ai Qian, do you also have this habit?"

After a while, she asked softly.

Jiang Chen was immediately taken aback.

This question was really too bold.

He knew she was not the type to feign innocence, but in this situation, to make such a joke, didn’t she find it a bit excessive, or perhaps too easily inflammatory?

Before he had a chance to answer, Li Shuru had already rustled down into the bed.

"Let’s sleep."

Jiang Chen stood frozen.

At this moment, he didn’t have many choices, just two: either sit in a chair all night, earning a supposedly honorable title of ’moral paragon’ which would likely get him spat on if talked about and Li Shuru might not even find him noble for it, possibly even thinking something was wrong with him.

Or.

Boldly accept the invitation to get into bed.

Sharing a bed with Li Shuru was something he never could have imagined before.

Involuntarily,

The chance encounter with KIMi that night resurfaced in his mind, recalling her proud demeanor, Jiang Chen steeled his heart.

He was a man, was he afraid of being taken advantage of?

Missing out on such "good fortune" would truly be asking for divine punishment.

With that thought, Jiang Chen hesitated no longer and walked towards the bed, but he didn’t sneak under the covers in a sleazy manner; instead, he lay down stiffly on the left side.

The TV was left on, turning it off would make the atmosphere just too awkward.

Although it was indeed very late, way past midnight, Jiang Chen understood that neither he nor Li Shuru would be able to fall asleep anytime soon.
