Part 5
After changing clothes in the room Kaori showed me, I returned to find the cake cut, bingo cards set up, and a bingo machine prepared.
“Oh, you changed?”
“Wow! Yuuya-sama, it looks great on you!”
Lexia-san exclaimed when she saw me.
The cosplay costume I bought was a Santa Claus costume.
However, it was a different design than the one Luna was wearing.
In addition, it had an unusually large number of belts. They were not only around the waist but also wrapped around various parts of the body, giving it a slightly military feel. The boots were quite sturdy. Although the red and white colors made it clear that it was Santa Claus, without those colors, it would look like a different costume.
Lexia-san had selected this cosplay carefully.
…I never thought I’d end up wearing a Santa outfit twice in one day.
“I knew I wasn’t wrong! It fits Yuuya-sama perfectly!”
“I-It’s beautiful!”
“Yuuya-kun, you look good in anything!”
Everyone started complimenting me, which made me feel a bit embarrassed.
To cover up my embarrassment, I asked about something that had been on my mind.
“W-What’s that bingo machine?”
“Huh? This? It’s for exchanging presents.”
“What, for exchanging presents?”
“That’s right! First, we assign a random number to each present. Then, whoever gets bingo gets the present with the same number, and so on. If you get your own present, you pick the next one.”
“I-I see…”
With this method, no one knows who will get which present.
“So, let’s start the party!”
At Ryo’s signal, everyone finished getting ready and took their seats.
Then, Ryo stood up and spoke again.
“Now, before we start the party… Yuuya, Kaori! Congratulations on finishing your studies abroad! Today is a celebration for that too, so enjoy yourselves! Now, let’s drink!”
“Cheers!”
Everyone raised their juice cups, and the party began.
I’m sure they would have liked to party with us, but I’m still happy they went through so much trouble celebrating us.
With that thought in mind, I took a bite of the cake and smiled at its deliciousness.
“It’s delicious…”
“Yeah, it’s really delicious!”
“For something recommended by that idiot nobleman, it’s not bad.”
“Y-You said an idiot nobleman…”
“Delicious. Munch, munch.”
As everyone enjoyed the cake, Ryo immediately headed for the bingo machine.
“Everyone, wait for it! It’s time to exchange presents! Are your cards ready?”
“Yeah!”
“Okay, then. The first number is… Five!”
With that, the bingo contest began, and everyone steadily marked their cards.
Finally, the first bingo was called.
“Ah, I got bingo!”
“Oh! The first bingo is Merl! Merl gets this number one present.”
Merl stepped forward with her card and received the present from Ryo.
“Oh, by the way, don’t open your presents yet, okay? I want everyone to open them all at the same time.”
“Got it.”
Merl nodded and returned to her seat. The bingo resumed.
From there, everyone took turns getting bingo and receiving their gifts.
I received my gift halfway through, and finally, everyone had received theirs.
“All right, everyone got their gifts, right? Then, let’s open them!”
Ryo said energetically, and everyone opened their presents at once.
“Hey, who brought this weird tissue case?”
What Rin was holding in her hand was…a Merlion?
Everyone was surprised by the unexpected gift. Ryo spoke up.
“Don’t say it’s weird! It’s funny, isn’t it? That tissue case!”
“Ryo, was that you… More importantly, how do you use this?”
“That’s… Oh, Kaori, can I borrow a tissue box?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
Ryo borrowed a box of tissues from Kaori and put them in the Merlion-shaped case.
Then, he stuck his hand into Merlion’s mouth and pulled out a tissue.
“This is how you use it.”
“…It’s just a funny item.”
“No, it’s practical, isn’t it? Besides, that’s the real thrill of gift exchange! So, what’s my gift? What is this?”
The gift Ryo held appeared to be a calendar and a notebook.
However, the photos in the calendar were impressive.
“Is this… a muscle calendar…?”
“Oh, that’s mine.”
“Rin’s?”
It seemed that Ryo and Rin had exchanged gifts.
“Why muscle? There were flowers and animals, weren’t there?”
“That wouldn’t be fun.”
“Kuh… I chose it for its humor, so I can’t complain…”
“What are you talking about? It comes with a stylish notebook, so it’s better than your gift.”
“That’s harsh!”
Well, considering that Rin’s gift also included a useful notebook… I guess she has a point.
“This is…a manga, right?”
“Oh, that’s my present.”
Meanwhile, Merl held a collection of manga that Shingo-kun had prepared as a gift.
Apparently, there was no entertainment like manga on Merl’s planet, and she was looking at it with interest.
“I know what manga is, but this is my first time holding one.”
“R-Really? I picked out some famous titles that I thought would appeal to everyone. If you find any you like, I hope you’ll buy the rest of the series.”
“I see… That’s interesting. Thank you very much.”
It seemed that Shingo-kun’s manga was a hit with Merl.
I don’t have any manga, so I’m a little jealous.
Then, Luna held up a strange wooden doll with an indescribable expression.
The doll was shaped like a human face and had an intense, powerful expression.
“…What is this?”
“That’s mine.”
“Yukine’s…?”
“Yes, it’s a god worshipped by a certain tribe to ward off evil spirits.”
“I-I see…”
Yukine, a member of the Occult Research Club, seems to have prepared something unusual.
However, it doesn’t seem to be a scary, ghost-like item but rather a good luck charm.
“It also governs love. If you have this wood carving, your love will come true.”
“…With this face…love?”
I understood what Luna was saying.
After all, the wooden carving looks like a demon and seems angry about a love affair.
“It’s said that no matter who the person is, they’ll lose their will, and you’ll be able to catch them.”
“Isn’t that just meant to scare people?!”
“It’s the best charm among a certain tribe. It’s guaranteed to work. I’ve never tried it myself, though.”
“What on earth is this…?”
Luna looked tired, but after staring at the wooden carving for a while, she blushed and looked at me. What is it?
Confused by Luna’s gaze, I heard Shingo-kun’s voice.
“W-Whoa! It’s a stuffed animal!”
“Found it. That’s mine.”
“Yu-Yuti-san’s…”
The present Shingo-kun had opened contained a stuffed animal that Yuti had prepared.
It was a smaller version of the huge stuffed bear Yuti had been eyeing during our recent shopping trip, and it was incredibly cute with its fluffy appearance.
“I-I have stuffed toys of anime characters, but this is my first stuffed animal. It feels really nice.”
“Affirmative. It was carefully selected at the store. The texture is superb.”
“I-I see. By the way, what did you get, Yuti?”
“Reveal? This.”
Yuti took out a sweater.
“Oh, that’s my present!”
“Satisfied. It feels nice against the skin and looks warm.”
It seemed to be a gift chosen by Kaede. Yuti looked at the sweater with delight.
Then, Kaede took out her present.
“Mine is… Oh, gloves!”
“Huh? Those are my present.”
Kaede’s present was apparently prepared by Luna and was a pair of brown mutton gloves.
Kaede immediately put on the gloves and smiled.
“They’re so warm!”
“They’re a bit stiff, but I chose something that seems pretty durable.”
“I see. Thank you!”
Kaede seemed satisfied with her gift. Seeing her reaction, Luna smiled gently.
Then, she noticed Yukine staring at a strange stone.
“Huh? Yukine, is that…”
“This is a present.”
“A present!?” That stone!?”
I was surprised by the unexpected gift.
Well, it was definitely blue and different from ordinary stones.
As I grimaced involuntarily, Merl, who had seen Yukine’s gift, spoke up.
“That’s the present I prepared.”
“Merl? By the way, can I ask what it is?”
“It’s a power stone.”
“Power stone…”
I see. A power stone. I didn’t really understand, but it must have some kind of power imbued in it.
When I couldn’t hide my confusion, Merl approached me and whispered in my ear.
“…It’s a mineral I got from my planet. I think it’s probably a substance that doesn’t exist on this planet.”
“Is that okay!?”
When I heard “power stone,” I thought it might have some kind of power I didn’t understand. But it really does look like a powerful stone!
Merl nodded in response to my concern.
“It’s okay. It contains a trace amount of energy that doesn’t exist on this planet, but it won’t affect the ecosystem here.”
“I-I see…”
Either way, it’s definitely a valuable gift. When asked if I’m happy to receive it, I can’t really say.
Then, Kaede, who had been looking at Yukine’s stone, spoke up.
“Hey, Merl. What kind of effects does this have?”
“This power stone promotes blood circulation and relieves muscle, nerve, and cold hand and foot pain.”
“It’s like the benefits of a hot spring…”
For a mineral from space, the effects are surprisingly mundane.
“Also, it’s said that if you gather five of these stones, they release enough energy to eliminate half of all life in the universe.”
“That’s like something out of a movie villain’s plot!”
It’s not just Earth—it’s an object with an unimaginable impact on the entire universe!
