Chapter 929 - 929 928. Car Accident
Chapter 929: 928. Car Accident Chapter 929: 928. Car Accident Lu Ban couldn’t help but glance at Cui Siter beside him.
This policeman was staring out of the window, apparently lost in thought.
The bloodstains on his body had long since dried up, and he looked exhausted and decadent.
Lu Ban remembered the figure he had just seen in the room on the second floor of the motel—it was undoubtedly Cui Siter.
But the person was just staring over at him without any movement.
If that was Cui Siter, then who was beside him right now?
Lu Ban recalled that when Cui Siter described his experiences, many details were extremely vague and hard to believe.
For example, whose blood was on Cui Siter, his gun and bullets had vanished without a trace, and why, after being attacked, Cui Siter only lay on the ground and had not been treated otherwise.
In other words, Lu Ban began to suspect that the Cui Siter beside him might be a fake.
To Lu Ban, this was a relatively false world; everything could merely be his hallucination or an “Illusion Realm” created by the Dark One.
So, the appearance of a fake Cui Siter wasn’t entirely impossible.
The question was, what was their purpose?
If they wanted to harm Lu Ban, the fake Cui Siter could have made a move already and didn’t need to put on such an elaborate act.
Lu Ban looked past the car window to the front. The thin mist dissipated with the rise in altitude, and the moonlight illuminated the road ahead. The old villa was brightly lit, guiding the way.
Everyone in the car remained silent, seemingly relying on the silence to calm down.
Lu Ban started to organize his experiences and plan his next goals.
It was obvious that on The Island there were extraordinary things—likely the Heretical Cultists wanted to summon the Evil Gods, connecting with the Indescribable presence to exchange for power. It was unclear whether their ritual was successful or had failed, but either way, it had brought the previous dense fog.
Lu Ban now had two choices: the first was to find the leader of the Heretical Cultists, find the location of their ritual, and then genuinely help these Heretical Cultists to summon the Evil Gods. Using the unknown Evil God, he could counter this illusionary realm and find a way to escape.
The other choice was to thwart the cultists’ conspiracy, retreat entirely unscathed, and then find an opportunity to explore how much more extraordinary power this world contains.
The former option obviously carried a taste of licking the blade’s edge. In this world, Lu Ban didn’t have strong resistance to Pollution. If he truly consorted with the cultists, a simple response from that great presence might turn Lu Ban and those cultists into a mess of unconscious flesh before returning to reality.
The latter choice would be much longer. Extraordinary events were fortuitous and not guaranteed; Lu Ban couldn’t ensure he would encounter similar events again. He might spend decades in this illusionary realm and still not come in contact with similar happenings.
He decided to first observe Cui Siter’s condition—if this was a Cui Siter disguised by some entity, then it must have specific demands.
The car passed through the gate, and Lu Ban saw that the security guard who had been in the guardhouse was nowhere to be found. Stopping at the gatehouse, he rolled down the window and took a look inside.
The guardhouse was lit, and the air conditioning was running as if the guard had sneaked out for a break or gone to use the restroom.
They waited for two minutes; the surroundings were deathly quiet—no one was around.
Lu Ban killed a mosquito that approached him, his palm full of fresh blood.
Rolling up the window, he took a tissue from the compartment next to the driver’s seat and wiped his hand.
“I wonder where they went.”
Shia continued driving forward, the road was brightly lit yet it gave off an eerie feeling. Her headlights illuminated the road ahead, which appeared somewhat monotonous and dull.
Suddenly, something seemed to dash out from the side of the road.
That white shadow tried to dart past the car, but not being fast enough, it was directly hit by Shia. The immense force flung the thing away, disappearing from the range of the headlights.
Shia hastily applied the brakes, feeling a bit nervous.
“Was that a person just now?”
She looked forward, but beyond the range of the headlights, there were only vague shadows, unclear.
“It was probably just a small animal, maybe a rabbit.”
Lu Ban recalled the classic Australian joke. The Island in Australia originally had no native rabbits, but some enthusiast imported them by ship and released them into the wild, resulting in rabbits without predators proliferating disastrously. In just a few years, they reproduced into billions.
This island probably also lacked rabbits; bringing a few pairs could make rabbit meat cheaper than fish meat in a few years.
“I don’t think it was. It felt too heavy.”
Shia gripped the steering wheel tighter and restarted the vehicle, slowly moving forward, continuing to speak.
“You all bear witness, I haven’t been drinking nor speeding. It was that thing that ran into me.”
Cui Siter craned his neck trying to spot any trace of the thing that had been sent flying.
Lu Ban watched the illuminated area, seeing the rough and uneven road surface that never changed, until… a hand appeared under the lights.
That ghastly pale hand was like a sweater washed with bleach, its texture nausea-inducing. Shia immediately slowed down, the dipped beam soon bringing the entire figure into clear view.
It was a humanoid creature.
Its stature merely that of an eight- or nine-year-old child, entirely white, with skin as rough as a bobbled carpet. It had six arms, and its legs looked atrophied to the length of its arms, making the whole figure resemble a giant spider.
Its head was round and bulbous, most of the facial features indistinct, but the top of its head, honeycombed with many holes, appeared quiet and horrifying under the dim light.
“What is this…”
Even Shia, who had seen this bizarre creature in person, could barely hide the panic on her face.
It was like, although cockroaches are common and students from the south are used to seeing large ones, if one heard noises in the kitchen in the middle of the night, ran to turn on the light and found a cockroach as big as a husky, who wouldn’t instantly learn Spider-Man’s wall-climbing skills?
This thing completely surpassed human imagination, as if this world genuinely harbored a deity, and this deity’s aesthetic was exceedingly perverted. In an ignorant and dark age, such a being could truly be described as “blasphemous.”
Despite having experienced over a decade of education and having seen various mental illness patients’ bizarre imaginations, Shia believed that this thing should not exist in this world.
For a moment, there was no sound in the car; even breathing seemed faint.
“Should we, get out and check?”
Lu Ban suggested, hearing Cui Siter swallow nervously beside him.
“… There’s a flashlight in the backseat, I’ll go take a look.”
Shia said, Lu Ban handed her the flashlight, she opened the car door, turned on the flashlight, and walked towards the unmoving “creature” on the ground.
