Chapter 925: 924. Group photo Chapter 925: 924. Group photo The moment Cui Siter pushed open the door, he smelled a stench of blood.

As a detective, he often encountered major crime scenes, be it sewers, swill buckets, or uncleaned public restrooms; he had investigated them all and had seen all kinds of devils and demons.

Once, the most bizarre case occurred in a public restroom on the outskirts of Jiangcheng.

There was a drunkard drinking nearby who urgently needed to relieve himself, and just then, he spotted a restroom and entered.

The restroom was rarely visited or cleaned, and the accumulated stench immediately sobered up the drunkard, making him vomit. After addressing his needs and preparing to leave, he noticed an eye staring at him from a pile of feces.

Thinking he had truly encountered a ghost, the drunkard scrambled out and later told a friend; they decided to call the police.

Unexpectedly, they really dug a body out from the cesspit. The person was wearing a raincoat and didn’t seem to have accidentally fallen; Cui Siter immediately suspected a criminal case.

Fortunately, the body hadn’t been dead for long and could still undergo forensic examination. The autopsy revealed no apparent injuries, and the cause of death was asphyxiation.

After searching the foul-smelling scene again, they found a camera and some equipment, and Cui Siter was finally able to piece together what had happened.

The victim, due to some unmentionable peculiar fetishes, had worn a raincoat and taken video equipment with him to hide in the restroom and spy on others, but he hadn’t anticipated the overpowering stench and the unique chemical reactions caused by long-standing accumulations, exacerbated by the weather; he was knocked unconscious by the smell.

During that period, Jiangcheng experienced heavy rain, and the rainwater flowed into the cesspit, drowning the unfortunate voyeur.

Cui Siter didn’t know what it felt like to be killed by feces, but at the victim’s funeral, not a single relative showed up.

So, for Cui Siter who had seen all kinds of turmoil, the smell of blood was noticeable the moment he opened the door.

He didn’t know why, but he had gotten separated from Shia and Lu Ban in the fog, and next, he found himself inside a hotel.

But in the hotel, there was no sign of Chen Danshen or He Youwu, not even a figure in sight.

Cui Siter thoroughly searched the first floor but found no documents, just three photographs.

The first photo was of a young couple in front of the hotel, surrounded by well-wishing passersby.

The photo had yellowed, seeming many years old; the couple looked happy, probably the hotel’s owners.

The second photo showed the same couple, but this time with two children, one about six or seven and the other still in swaddling, with many people around them aging but still smiling happily.

The third photo was more sinister, showing the couple lying on a bed, their complexions dark as if deceased, with both children now in their teens looking numbly at the camera.

When Cui Siter saw this photo, he quickly remembered his previous visit to this hotel, greeted by a couple and two children, similar to those in the second photo.

If this third photo was real, then who were the people Cui Siter had met?

He felt a chill.

While looking at the photos, Cui Siter suddenly heard a heavy thud from somewhere on the second floor.

The sound was like a head hitting the floor, chilling to the bone.

In this eerily empty hotel, such a sound was truly frightening.

He put away the photos and ascended the creaking stairs to the second floor.

Thud—

Another sound came, and Cui Siter reached the door from where the noise originated.

The door was unchained, and from inside came rustling sounds as if some large creature was being kept there.

Cui Siter pushed the door open and smelled a strong scent of blood.

And what his eyes saw was a bizarre and horrifying scene.

A person, enveloped in some sort of black, sticky semi-solid, was lying prostrate beside the bed, where a deceased person—the owner of the inn—was lying.

The owner’s eyes were wide open, a look of shock and disbelief on his face, saliva dripping from his agape mouth, turning the bedsheet a deep black.

His abdomen had been torn open, dark-colored internal organs and yellow fat scattered about.

The person in black, resembling an octopus, had tentacles instead of palms at the ends of his arms, which were winding around the deceased’s organs, continuously feeding them into his mouth.

This was no longer a human, but a bona fide monster.

Even serving as a criminal detective all these years, Cui Siter had never encountered such an indescribable scene.

His scalp tingled, a wave of chill ran up his spine; that eerie black figure seemed not to have noticed Cui Siter, feasting voraciously as if afraid of missing out on the food.

Cui Siter dared not make any sudden movements. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw another cadaver under the bed, nearly devoured to its bare bones, scattered here and there, its face mangled as if shaved by a planer, confirming it had once been human.

From the pieces of clothing on the floor, it appeared to be the innkeeper’s wife.

This couple seemed to have been killed and devoured by this monster.

At that moment, Cui Siter suddenly noticed that although this figure could hardly be called human anymore, by its size and build, it seemed no larger than a teenager.

In an instant, all sorts of dreadful possibilities crossed Cui Siter’s mind.

His hand slowly moved to his holster. Although the bullets weren’t lethal, they were enough for Cui Siter to buy some time against a normal creature.

Drawing his gun, Cui Siter slowly aimed at the shadow.

Whatever this thing was, being hit by bullets should, at the very least, cause some form of injury, right?

Cui Siter thought as beads of cold sweat trickled down his forehead, seeing this bizarre creature and yet managing to stay calm was the sole benefit brought from years of work.

Even Cui Siter felt that if he had succumbed to madness upon first seeing this monster, maybe he would have been happier.

He saw the monster gnawing on a heart, a wave of nausea surged up Cui Siter’s throat; he fought it down and then, without hesitation, fired his gun.

Bang, bang, bang—

Three consecutive shots, rubber bullets hitting the monster’s body. To Cui Siter’s relief, the creature didn’t dissipate like smoke but solidly took the bullets, its entire body flinging towards the wall.

Gritting his teeth, Cui Siter kept assessing the situation while preparing to continue firing.

But just then, a thought suddenly crossed Cui Siter’s mind.

If his premonition was correct, did this couple have a child?

Through the dark reflection of the blood, he suddenly saw at the top of the door, near the ceiling, a dark figure staring menacingly at him.

“Fuck!”

Cui Siter barely managed to curse before the shadow pounced towards him.
