I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 914 - 914 913. Making rapid progress day by day
Chapter 914: 913. Making rapid progress day by day Chapter 914: 913. Making rapid progress day by day Lu Ban didn’t know these two people.
Or rather, before seeing the information Cui Siter gave him, Lu Ban had never had any impression of these two people.
That was normal, if Lu Ban found out that this couple was someone he knew before, it would prove even more that this place was just a fictional world, because Lu Ban had never encountered this business couple in the real world.
They were supposed to be in their fifties but looked much older, possibly due to the premature aging caused by the grief of losing their child.
They were clearly from the same country, wearing Hawaiian shirts and shorts, their expressions calm yet slightly tense.
“This is Mr. Zou Changyu and his wife, Mrs. Sun Shuzhi; that villa over there should be their property.”
Cui Siter explained.
Although it was midsummer, the sun beating down near the Equator, it wasn’t hot on the island as the slightly fishy sea breeze blew, taking away the heat, and instead it felt cool.
Lu Ban suddenly had the feeling of being on a mission in a foreign domain, only now there was no cold, indifferent text prompt from the Silent Lands, no various bizarre and wonderful extraordinary powers, everything had to be done on his own.
He looked towards the luxurious villa on the mountain, which, despite the sunlight, appeared somewhat sinister.
Years of exposure to wind and rain had covered the outer walls of the building with mottled marks; moss grew in the shaded corners, lush and verdant, while the parts burned by the sun for years were dim and even cracked.
“Damn rich people.”
Cui Siter couldn’t help but sigh.
Lu Ban had read related materials on the plane he took, Zou Changyu’s business mainly dealt in foreign trade, commerce, etc., initially starting with cheap daily goods, clothing, and later began dealing with mechanical equipment, minerals, ceramics, jade, riding the wave of recent years, the business flourished, quickly becoming a large enterprise.
Although it was a bit of a hellish joke, since the loss of their child, their business really took off.
Most of the islands in the Pacific Ocean were created by underwater volcanic eruptions and intense geological activity, characterized by a mountain in the center of the island; the villa was situated on the low mountain top, it was unclear whether the mountains here were naturally flat or if human construction had simply leveled the top.
The island wasn’t large; one could easily overlook it on a private plane, and the island’s inhabitants had long since undergone the baptism of civilization, or perhaps they were just later immigrants, the indigenous people had long ago become the tombstone of the great sea discoveries, buried somewhere on this island.
The most common means of transportation on the island were electric cars, Lu Ban glanced over and saw it was a domestic brand.
It seemed that the Zou Changyu couple really had taken domestic goods overseas.
“Although I’d like to talk with the policemen about our child, you all have been traveling, so let’s head back into the house first.”
Zou Changyu had the driver bring a six-seater business van for Lu Ban and others, while he and his wife rode ahead on a small motorcycle, leading the way with a puttering sound.
Arriving at the villa’s entrance, Lu Ban looked up at the windows of the villa.
This side’s windows were all open, curtains fluttering in the breeze, his gaze sweeping past, suddenly, he seemed to see a young person looking this way through one of the windows.
His glance returned, but there were only pale-colored curtains fluttering, no one in sight.
“What’s wrong?”
Amber asked from the side.
“Mr. Zou, do you have any relatives staying here?”
Lu Ban didn’t hesitate and asked directly.
“No, aside from some aunts responsible for cleaning and cooking, there’s no one else, why?”
Zou Changyu replied.
“I just saw what looked like a young person on the second floor.”
Lu Ban pointed out the room.
“That’s a guest room, unoccupied, maybe it’s one of the cleaning aunts?”
Zou Changyu appeared slightly perplexed.
“Please don’t worry about it; let’s go inside first.”
Cui Siter hurriedly said, carrying a case that looked small but was rather heavy. It had multiple layers, securing the jade pendant inside so that it wouldn’t affect the outside world.
As they entered the villa, the dampness became more pronounced, giving Lu Ban a feel reminiscent of Taoist Crane Cry’s Storm Villa, as if it had just been fished out of the water.
He noticed the wooden handrails of the staircase seemed wet, but when he reached out to touch them, they were dry—it all felt like an illusion.
Perhaps due to a design issue, the rooms needed the lights switched on to appear bright. Before rushing into their investigation, they were first shown to their guest rooms.
Lu Ban quickly recalled and found the room he had seen earlier.
Turning the slightly loose doorknob, he peeked inside.
The room had the same damp smell, but there was nothing odd—just a clean and tidy room.
“I’ll take this room.”
Lu Ban said, placing his bag directly on the bed.
“I’ll take the room next door.”
Amber immediately responded.
Lu Ban suspected that if there had been another bed in this room, she would have probably opted to sleep in his room.
After settling on rooms, Cui Siter took the one closest to the staircase, next to Lu Ban, and then Amber, with Red Leaf across from Amber, and Shia opposite Lu Ban.
He Youwu and Chen Danshen did not stay in the villa; they had come to the island privately and were staying at a small inn near the dock as backup support.
Having settled in, the group went downstairs to the dining room.
Cui Siter carried the case with him, unwilling to let it out of his sight.
Zou Changyu Couple was already waiting there, along with some simple meals and snacks.
After the long journey, the young people were nearly starving, especially Shia, who, after greeting, started devouring the food immediately.
“Mr. Zou, our visit this time mainly concerns the case from ten years ago.”
Cui Siter didn’t eat but looked at the couple as he spoke.
“We’ve heard; the criminal who killed our child has been executed,” Zou Changyu said. As he spoke, he held his wife’s hand, while the mother trembled slightly, as if it had all happened just yesterday.
“We’re very grateful to you, grateful that you were able to catch the criminal after so long,” he said earnestly.
In the tone of another, the words might have come off sarcastic, but Cui Siter could see Zou Changyu was truly serious.
Capturing a serial criminal is already hard, let alone when the criminal had almost ceased committing similar crimes after that, until recently when he couldn’t resist killing again. If not for Lu Ban, the culprit probably would have escaped by now. Catching him was already an accomplishment.
“I wanted to offer you all some reward money as thanks, but considering you’re public servants, you probably can’t accept the money.”
Zou Changyu said.
“It’s no problem; I’m not a public servant, just a common university student. You can give me the reward money,” Lu Ban quickly replied.
“?”
Zou Changyu was stunned.
