I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 906 - 906 905. Give up treatment

Chapter 906: 905. Give up treatment Chapter 906: 905. Give up treatment Night.

After dinner at the commercial plaza in the city center, Red Leaf went home, and Lu Ban along with Amber didn’t linger outside either, heading straight back to the neighborhood near Jiangcheng University.

While Amber was changing and taking a shower, Lu Ban turned on the computer.

He remembered that he had wanted to experience a villa, so he consulted with an estate agent; it was the encounter with the strange entity there that led to the discovery of a murder case that had taken place, and later, when the killer showed up at his door, it was the help of friends at home that allowed them to bring him to justice.

Even so, the mental state of the murderer seemed abnormal. Considering his companion’s bizarre death, Lu Ban found it quite puzzling.

After consulting scarce online information, Lu Ban suddenly let out a long sigh.

He was not fixated on this case out of any sense of justice but because it was the most “extraordinary” event he could engage with.

His past life had always been full of dangers from a Foreign Domain, odd entities, and Indescribable great existences.

Returning to the ordinary for a moment, he indeed felt a bit uncomfortable.

If the truth behind this case also failed to reach the extraordinary within Lu Ban’s perception, then how was he to awaken from this Illusion Realm?

Or perhaps, only after living an ordinary and beautiful life here and eventually passing away, could he return to the real world?

Lu Ban even imagined for a moment, growing old here, dying, and then waking up to find himself back in a mental hospital.

“This world seems to be based on my cognition, with people I know in it, and situations I am unaware of probably wouldn’t occur…”

Lu Ban thought.

Usually, when one is trapped in an illusion based on their past, the way to find a flaw is to see if there’s anything that they don’t know of but is present in the illusion.

But that’s under ordinary circumstances; if this Illusion Realm is constructed by The Dark One, then as an incarnation of an Outer God, he might be almost omniscient. Things Lu Ban knows or doesn’t, The Dark One would probably know all.

Therefore, Lu Ban couldn’t predict what this world might reveal.

When he saw Cui Siter, Lu Ban felt somewhat sentimental.

Those who had died were now living in this Illusion Realm.

They had their own lives, memories, futures.

As long as he continued to immerse himself here, at least they could attain a life that is ordinary and Common.

No one departs life without regrets; it’s just that when the moment of fate arrives, no one can refuse it.

If now, they were given another chance, could there be some differences?

“What’s up?”

A gentle voice came from behind, and Lu Ban turned around to see Amber, dressed in her pink-blue kitty pajamas, standing at the door, peering in.

“Do you have something you want to do?”

Lu Ban asked.

“Hmm?”

Amber tilted her head, puzzled.

“Like somewhere you want to go, something you want to eat, or someone you want to meet.”

Lu Ban continued.

“Why are you asking this all of a sudden?”

Amber found it strange. She walked into Lu Ban’s room, sat on the bed, her hands resting beside her, her fingers gently tugging at Lu Ban’s blanket. She bit her lower lip, thought for a moment, and then said,

“I’m quite content as it is; it would be nice if time could just stop at this moment.”

And then she said that.

“Even if this is all a lie?”

Lu Ban remained silent for a moment before asking.

Upon hearing Lu Ban’s words, Amber did not speak but looked at him, her eyes as if pondering.

“You still think all this is an illusion.”

She spoke with some discomfort.

“You think we’re all fake, and only that threatening Another World, the world of the Evil God, is real.”

Before Lu Ban could respond, Amber swallowed hard, stumbled upon some thought, and then continued to speak.

“… you’re right.”

It took Amber a while to say that.

“This is indeed the Illusion Realm; everything is made up, and I’ve been dead for a long time. Now I’m just a ghost, clinging to the beauty of life. Because once you find a way to leave this place, I will never be able to wake up again.”

Upon hearing Amber’s words, Lu Ban’s heart skipped a beat.

He hadn’t actually found any flaw in this Illusion Realm; rather, Amber was saying what he wanted to believe.

She was like a patient who had given up on treatment, choosing to embrace death, even though it entailed endless pain.

Amber stood up and gently hugged Lu Ban, sniffling.

“It’s okay, I’ll stay with you until we find a way to get out of here, but you mustn’t hurt yourself, okay?”

The girl muttered softly.

Lu Ban was well aware that to Amber, this world was the real one, and for his sake, she chose to admit that her entire life had been a lie.

This sort of scenario often occurred during the treatment of mental illnesses.

Not only the patients themselves suffered from mental illnesses, but their families did as well.

When dealing with patients with cognitive impairments, families often had to give up many things and even live in accordance with the patient’s delusions.

Lu Ban didn’t respond, but he could feel the girl in his arms trembling.

The moonlight was cold and clear, much like memories, dim and lusterless.

When he woke up, Lu Ban saw the increasingly familiar ceiling.

He stretched languidly and got out of bed. Naturally, there was no sign of Amber around.

Hearing the sound of a gas stove and a range hood from the kitchen, Lu Ban got out of bed and saw Amber, wearing an apron, busy at the stove.

“You’re awake; go wash up. Breakfast will be ready soon.”

Amber said cheerfully when she saw Lu Ban.

“Alright.”

Lu Ban went to the washroom, looked in the mirror – he still looked quite spirited. He reached for one of the two toothbrushes and quickly finished up.

Breakfast was tomato and egg noodles. Although the taste was still indescribable, at least Amber’s cooking skills had improved from inedible to something that wouldn’t kill him within a week.

“We should order takeout next time.”

Lu Ban said.

“No way, takeout is too greasy; it can make you gain weight.”

Amber refused outright and looked at Lu Ban, her smile unwittingly returning.

“By the way, what happened with the story of He Dao you told me last time?”

“Hmm, the Poetry Festival?”

Lu Ban remembered the story he’d told Amber the night before about his adventures in the Foreign Domain, which ended right at the beginning of the Poetry Festival.

During this time, Amber had truly acted as she said she would, like a character in the Illusion Realm, patiently following Lu Ban’s thoughts and even prompting him to talk about his adventures in the Foreign Domain.

Watching her listen intently to his stories, Lu Ban felt a mix of emotions.

However, he was very clear that no matter the cost, he had to return to the real world.

Indulging in this dream would only leave him stagnant.

Just as he was about to continue the story of Red Leaf’s departure and the burning Pure Fire, Lu Ban’s WeChat vibrated. He glanced at the message notification and saw it was from Cui Siter.

[Old Cui]: We’ve caught the serial killer.

[Old Cui]: He says he wants to see you, Lu Ban.
