I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 905 - 905 904. You are not right
Chapter 905: 904. You are not right. Chapter 905: 904. You are not right. After arranging for people to keep watch at the train station, bus station, and airport, Cui Siter looked at Lu Ban.
This young man was still sitting in the chair, sipping his tea like an old man, and even blowing on it.
“It’s iced, no need to cool it down.”
Cui Siter couldn’t help but remind him.
Except for the personnel on duty, only Cui Siter and Lu Ban remained in the office. After thinking for a bit, Cui Siter called out to Lu Ban.
“Come over here.”
He took Lu Ban to the windowsill at the end of the corridor, fished out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, put one between his lips, then offered the pack to Lu Ban.
“Want one?”
“I don’t smoke.”
Lu Ban declined Cui Siter’s kind offer.
“That’s good.”
Cui Siter faced outside, lit the cigarette in his mouth with a lighter, took a deep drag, and exhaled the smoke out the window.
“Those things you just said, about the real world, adventures in the Foreign Domain, they’re quite interesting, could make a movie.”
He casually said.
“In the real world, they have been made into movies.”
Lu Ban spoke the truth.
Cui Siter smiled, assuming Lu Ban couldn’t distinguish reality from fantasy.
“You’ve got talent, might even become a cop someday.”
He added.
“But still, you need to come back to reality.”
“I’m trying.”
Lu Ban answered.
“Do you think everything here is fake, that your two friends are fake too?”
Cui Siter glanced at the tightly closed door of the reception room down the corridor.
“…Yes.”
Lu Ban paused for a moment before answering.
“In the real world, they have long since died and were witnessed by the Chosen by Gods, completing the closed loop of their destiny. It’s absolutely impossible for them to survive.”
“If you said that to them, you’d definitely make the girls sad.”
Cui Siter laughed. He tapped the ash into the ashtray above a trash can beside him, then continued.
“I don’t understand doctors, nor mental illnesses. I once encountered a case where the suspect was mentally disturbed too. He always thought others were out to get him, what’s it called, persecutory delusion? Anyway, something like that, and to prevent others from harming him, he struck preemptively, killed his own family. The scene was pretty horrific. A teenager, his whole life basically ruined.”
He glanced at Lu Ban’s expression, then resumed speaking.
“I haven’t had your experiences, and I don’t know how real that ‘real world’ of yours is to you, but if it were me, I’d probably choose the life I have now over a dangerous adventure.”
“Listening to your story earlier, I sounded quite great, able to bravely help others and sacrifice myself to save the world, but in reality, I’m not that noble. I’m just an ordinary guy who happened to pass the police academy exams, worked routinely after graduation, solved a few cases, and ended up like this.”
Cui Siter drew a deep drag of cigarette, allowing the smoke to fill his lungs before he exhaled, pulling out a long stream of smoke.
“To be honest, if I were in your situation, I definitely wouldn’t choose to sacrifice myself; I’m very afraid of dying. It’s a bit embarrassing to say this, but I probably wouldn’t give up living for people I don’t know.”
Lu Ban looked at Cui Siter.
He was indeed a bit different from the real Cui Siter.
Perhaps if the real Cui Siter lived in a modern urban setting, this is the kind of life he’d lead.
Doing his job, leading his small life, upholding justice, but not sacrificing everything for others, appearing somewhat unreliable, yet actually trustworthy.
If he hadn’t been chosen by the Silent Lands, he’d just be an ordinary citizen.
In fact, all those Chosen by Gods, before their adventures in the Foreign Domain, were ordinary people as well.
“I wish you’d be a bit more cowardly as well.”
Lu Ban said.
“Ha ha, you can’t afford to be cowardly at crucial times. After all, I still have to protect citizens.”
Cui Siter finished off the last bit of his cigarette, stubbing it out in the ashtray, then patted Lu Ban on the shoulder with his other hand.
“You’ll go with our colleague later to draw a sketch of that real estate agent and then leave a record and contact information. I’ll give you my WeChat and phone number as well,” he said. “Contact me immediately if you recall anything else.”
“No problem.”
Lu Ban was actually still hoping that Cui Siter might come up with some kind of hairstyle.
“It’s pretty absurd when you think about it. I actually find myself willing to believe the things you said. Could it be that my sanity is also off?”
Cui Siter said with a hint of self-mockery.
“You just believed in the facts,”
Lu Ban said seriously. He glanced at Cui Siter, thought for a bit, and continued.
“It’s not power that makes one great, but greatness that grants one power.”
“Is that a line from a book or something?”
Cui Siter didn’t quite understand.
“Forget it, you better get going. Your friends have probably grown impatient. It’s not very gentlemanly to keep ladies waiting.”
After nearly an hour of fuss, Lu Ban finally managed to leave.
He pushed open the door of the reception room and saw Red Leaf half-asleep on the couch, while Amber was obediently watching a video on her phone.
Noticing the door open, Amber quickly put away her phone and jumped up to Lu Ban’s side.
“Why did it take you so long!”
She complained a bit, but her face still showed relief.
“I got too engrossed in doing a good deed.”
Lu Ban replied.
“What good deed did you do?”
Amber had heard a snippet from a police officer who came to pour them water but didn’t know exactly what Lu Ban had done.
“Reported a murderer.”
Lu Ban answered.
“A murderer?”
Amber’s eyes widened, confused whether Lu Ban was joking or had actually learned some information about a case.
“Was it someone you met in the hospital?”
“Everyone in the hospital is a good person.”
Lu Ban denied, glancing at Red Leaf and gently patting her shoulder.
“Wake up, wake up.”
Red Leaf stirred awake, her eyes blurry for a moment before focusing on Lu Ban’s face.
“Well, if you insist so much… it’s not like it’s impossible…”
She mumbled.
“?”
Lu Ban had a question mark over his head.
“?”
Amber also had a question mark over her head.
Only Red Leaf, gradually becoming aware of her surroundings, stared at Lu Ban as her cheeks visibly reddened.
“What are you doing?”
She hastily moved back, but the couch allowed her no retreat, and her head bumped against the wall, making a clear sound.
“What did you dream about?”
Lu Ban was puzzled, thinking the real oddity was with Red Leaf. He stood up, noticing as Red Leaf somewhat frantically straightened her clothes, dodging the question.
“Nothing, nothing, can we go now?”
Red Leaf glanced at Amber with a guilty expression and stood up.
“You’re acting strange.”
Lu Ban bluntly stated.
“Get lost!”
Red Leaf immediately glared at Lu Ban.
