I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 895 - 895 894. You are already dead
Chapter 895: 894. You are already dead. Chapter 895: 894. You are already dead. Black hair, light-colored eyes, dressed in a short-sleeve white blouse and a knee-length plaid skirt typical of high school uniforms, with ankle socks and sneakers, and carrying a fabric bag over her shoulder—the girl who appeared at the door of Lu Ban’s hospital room indeed bore an identical appearance to Amber.
“How come? Is there something on my face?”
The girl noticed Lu Ban’s gaze and quickly touched her face, then scanned the hem of her skirt and the edge of her shirt. Finding no issues, she stepped forward with a light gait to Lu Ban’s bedside.
“You’re already dead.”
Lu Ban looked at the girl brimming with youthful vitality and said seriously.
“Huh?”
The girl was taken aback but quickly caught on.
“You’re starting with those settings again, huh? Hey, didn’t the doctor say you were getting a bit better?”
She sighed, placed the fabric bag on the bedside table, and took out two apples and a folding fruit knife, beginning to peel the apples with concentration.
But her apple peeling skills were far from excellent, more like a complete mess; she clearly looked like someone who would normally just rinse the skin and bite right in. Lu Ban couldn’t stand watching and reached out to take the fruit knife and apples.
Yet, unexpectedly, this simple motion startled the girl. She quickly stood up, withdrawing the fruit knife behind her and even losing grip of the apple, which fell to the floor.
Taking two steps back, the girl with Amber’s face showed panic in her eyes.
And a bit of regret.
“…Sorry, I was just worried, worried you might hurt yourself.”
She held the fruit knife in front of her, slightly bowing and taking a step closer to Lu Ban.
“Are you okay?”
The girl asked to confirm.
“I’m fine.”
Lu Ban said calmly, spreading out his hands with palms facing upward.
“I won’t hurt you or myself.”
Hearing Lu Ban’s words, the girl finally placed the fruit knife into Lu Ban’s hand.
Lu Ban picked up the apple that had fallen and handed it to her.
“Wash it with water, it’s still edible.”
The girl nodded, took the apple, and went to the restroom to wash it.
Lu Ban felt the weight of the fruit knife in his hand, took up another apple, and began peeling it neatly and skillfully.
By the time the girl returned with the washed apple, he was already done.
“Have this one.”
Lu Ban offered the just peeled apple to the girl and picked up the one that had fallen to the ground, biting into it.
Crunchy and sweet.
“It’s quite tasty.”
Lu Ban commented.
“Right? I specifically asked the fruit shop owner for the crunchier ones.”
The girl beamed happily and after chatting for a bit became somewhat excited.
“Oh, I just heard from the doctor, you’re recovering very well and could consider going home to recuperate for a while, gradually get used to the outside.”
“Mm…”
Lu Ban finished the apple and was about to throw the core into the trash can but was stopped.
“This is wet waste, it needs to be sorted.”
The girl packed the leftover cores from both of them into a bag.
“I never thought I’d have to sort garbage in a hallucination.”
Lu Ban remarked.
“There you go with that stuff again. Lu Ban, are you really okay?”
The girl asked, concerned. Without waiting for Lu Ban’s reply, she continued.
“You’ve been saying all these weird things, claiming I’m dead, that I was burned to death. But I’m standing right here, see?”
“Yeah.”
Lu Ban did not delve into such words; he merely nodded in agreement.
Clearly, in this Illusion Realm, Lu Ban did not possess any Extraordinary Powers, and the world itself was quite peaceful, with no Ancient Overlords, no Foreign Domains, no Pollution.
Lu Ban was just an ordinary mental health patient, suffering from a plethora of delusional symptoms due to strange illness and experimental treatments. Now, after the surgery, he had finally recovered somewhat from that completely muddled state. Although the delusional memories still plagued Lu Ban, at least he could now recognize the real world.
Naturally, all of Lu Ban’s Extraordinary Powers had also vanished.
He could not melt, could not perform Photosynthesis, did not have the “True Sight,” nor could he materialize “Testament.”
In Lu Ban’s view, there were also none of the indifferent and cold words of the Silent Lands.
Everything was entirely normal.
But this was not normal.
“…Okay, I’ll head back now. Wait for Monday and we’ll process your discharge paperwork. Rest well and try not to overthink,” said the female student after she chatted with Lu Ban for a while, then packed up and left.
Lu Ban underwent another medical examination, and as time passed, the sun set in the west. The evening sun shone through the window into the room, giving Lu Ban the feeling of a lonely old man.
“Don’t let waiting turn into regret,” Lu Ban couldn’t help but say.
He didn’t have a cellphone, so he could only turn on the television in the ward.
The television had been secured to prevent Lu Ban from moving it. Clearly, although this wasn’t a high-security ward with straitjackets, they were somewhat prepared for Lu Ban having a sudden outbreak.
The television worked fine for viewing programs, though there weren’t many channels, all being rather serious ones.
Lu Ban turned on the news and casually watched for a while.
He found that the world in this Illusion Realm was not much different from the world before his transmigration; at least he had not noticed any discrepancies.
After watching the news for about fifteen minutes, Lu Ban switched the channel and saw another one broadcasting a variety show.
This variety show was similar to those that involve rushing forward, belonging to the physical challenge genre.
Only, the challengers within the program seemed somewhat familiar to Lu Ban.
He recalled for a moment and realized that these were the Explorers he had met during his first trip to the Wasteland.
Giant Arm, Flame Heart, and Old Dream.
The three, mimicked by insects, were now running through a water park, apparently having a good time.
According to the doctors, Lu Ban’s brain would subconsciously remember everything he encountered, whether it was words or people. Normally, humans wouldn’t record so much information and would periodically forget insignificant things or turn them into some form of block memory.
Just like some embarrassing moment from elementary school that you wouldn’t normally think about, but once triggered in a certain way through association, dead memories begin attacking oneself.
But Lu Ban’s brain wouldn’t do that, which made him like a hard drive constantly filled with downloaded content until its shape changed and it crashed frequently.
This caused psychological issues.
Under guidance, Lu Ban would turn people he saw on television or words he read in the newspaper into some delusions, which explained the so-called “Silent Lands” of Lu Ban.
The doctor also said that the reason why Lu Ban always turned danger into safety in those adventures in the Foreign Domain, and no matter what, never fell into madness, was precisely because he was the master of these delusions.
When Lu Ban’s overly powerful memory met with meticulous logical thinking and a slight mental issue, it turned into what he was now.
Everything made sense.
After all, compared to things like Foreign Domains, Ancient Overlords, Evil Gods, and Extraordinary Powers, the explanation of a neurological disorder was much more in line with cognition.
If one truly believed this world had those Extraordinary Powers, then that would be madness.
Lu Ban was still engrossed in watching the people on TV fall into the water, with joyous laughter filling the room, when a knock sounded at the door, and someone entered.
It was Feng Yu in the guise of a nurse.
She was carrying a tray, here to deliver Lu Ban’s meal.
Patients like him apparently had specialized dietary plans and didn’t need to go to the cafeteria.
Or rather, weren’t allowed to go to the cafeteria.
“Today we have sea bass, and although it should be boneless, you still have to be careful when eating.”
Feng Yu advised as she placed the tray on the table.
“Thank you,”
Lu Ban said, looking up at Feng Yu again.
“You are indeed the kind of woman who could become my mother.”
